Replying To Fionn:  "Without jeopardising a move, can the player not say to the Aussie club - ok I will sign for you but I want you to give a Donation to my home club for all the efforts they have put in to get me to this point...
Be it 10k, 25k, 50k or whatever...

Perhaps too simplistic a view, but surely it is time for this to happen...
Especially with a talent like Kobe who was being looked at by more than 1 Aussie club.

Or if for example - if I get to sign a pro contract down the line - then my home club is given a Donation or whatever....

This money would be a drop in the ocean for these Aussie clubs,"
....and why should he do that? Would you ask all GAA players who sign for soccer and rugby clubs to do the same.

Replying To Kerry15:  "Oh come on most of them wouldn't have even been inter county footballers. Also it's completely different a young fella who is talented at football and rugby or soccer going growing up and choosing the other one compared to a top GAA player being recruited for Australia because of his Gaelic football ability."
Why is it different? Its only different because you might be half expecting it. The end result is still the same.
Well actually its not the same, far more lads come home to play GAA after they finish up with professional AFL than do after they finish playing professional soccer or rugby.

Replying To ORIELMAN85:  "Now Genius, how are you going to do that. I have coached young lads for 30+ years and I would be delighted if one of them ever got the opportunity to go play Aussie Rules professionally."
Exactly my attitude

100% Kevin Moran was an exceptional gaelic footballer though.Outside of Dublin probably very few were too unhappy to see him leave Dublin GAA for Man Utd and he even combined both for a brief spell. But he had played League of Ireland soccer before he went to Man Utd, with his commerce degree and Celtic crosses in his pocket. Some man for one man. Apologies for the tangent!

A player won't be missing hurling or football training because his AFL team have a championship game. If he goes to professional soccer or rugby it's because he's played either. He'll be just as big as a loss or more to the soccer or rugby team as a hurling or football team. But AFL probably scouted him for his gaelic football skills. They scout in other ball sports too. Conor Nash had potential for Meath and Leinster rugby. But he still had to learn the AFL game when he got there. Some learn it better than others and most of them can't make the cut.

Can recall at least 4 County Minors in my county who were lost to a professional soccer career and 2 more to professional rugby careers. Was delighted for them all.
