Only great teams win back to back All Irelands

Replying To slayer:  "I think some of the comments about the Munster championship are a bit harsh on Kerry. Between 04-10 Kerry reached 6 finals, winning 4 and the feedback was that those all Ireland titles were handy because it was Mayo and Cork in the final. In 05 and 08 it was said that Kerry couldn't beat Tyrone and after 2010 that they couldn't beat Northern teams. Yet in 2025 they beat 4 en route to Sam and the question is then about the Munster championship being poor.

Same with Dublin and their 6 in a row. Leinster was perceived as poor etc.

The truth is that both Kerry and Dublin have repeatedly found ways to win all Ireland titles with special teams. If we are to be really honest about the provincial championships, isn't Ulster the only one that genuinely has competitors who can all beat each other on a championship day? Some of the all Ireland titles won by the Ulster sides have been full of tremendous battles from the first game of the championship. From my earliest memories the Ulster football championship has been like that and once Down made the breakthrough in 1991 Ulster sides have become skilled at regularly winning all Ireland titles.

As for back to back titles I think that is a huge achievement in itself. To get a group of players back up to same level they'd been at is an impressive achievement in the modern game. Football and hurling are so competitive among the top 8 in each, it is difficult to see teams do back to back."
My previous post wasnt allowed, maybe this one will.

In fairness Slayer, the chief protagonist who's driving this has Dublin living rent free in his head as is doing everything he can to knock Dublin and their achievements. All posters are doing is responding in kind and pointing out its a two way street. The way intercounty works there's always going to be unfairness which can't be helped. It's not a professional game. It's the same at school level. You're always going to have schools that can barely field a team going up against mega schools, in all parts of the country, where there's huge competition for places, same thing.

However, our hero here can only see it from green and gold tinted glasses!

At the end of the day there will be eight quarter finalists. If one has home league ground advantage, it is naturally an advantage. All Ireland results since 2011 back this up. The Leinster semi finals with home league ground advantage taken away for the first time since 2011 also back this up. "Some advantage" as the wise supporters of the 2013 All Ireland final hosts were very bullish in telling us.

Replying To S1234:  "Well that's insulting enough it's because it was Mayo or Cork in the finals they were ' handy ' . You seem to have forgotten all the finals you lost before you won a couple .

Everyone knows Munster Championship is a walk through for Kerry every year. Simple as Kerry get easy routes to the business end ."
Why is it insulting? The facts are that Mayo always fill the togs in finals and Cork are a hurling county.

Thanks for that ! Don't know why we got slagged off when Cork bottled it this year. I think it's a mentality with Mayo and finals now .
The players must be going to themselves we surely can't loose another one and what if we do...
It must get to their heads it would anyone .

We were unlucky to come across the best team ever 6 in a row . Annoys me when we got slagged when Cork bottled it in final we are not even a hurling county .

But I know one thing the day we win it we will party till the sun goes down !

On the above topic I decided to look into what teams had retained Sam over the years. The list of counties to retain Sam are as follows :

Dublin
Kerry
Wexford
Kildare
Roscommon
Cavan
Mayo
Down
Galway
Offaly
Meath
Cork

Cork were the last team to do it outside of the big two of Kerry & Cork. It's difficult to see another team other than Kerry repeat the feat anytime soon

Everyone said it was impossible in the modern game and then Dublin won 5 in a row.

Even since then, with the short championship - a few early season injuries and your nearly done,

You need all players fit and in from, from May to August 2 years in a row.
You would want to forget the league to garauntee that.

If you skip the league, you might not have enough football played to be able to go to the well in championship.

It will be a big achievement if Kerry pull it off. But they are usually the ones that do it.

It has been a while since back to back titles were achieved without home league ground advantage. Sin é.

No anti kerry stuff here Mickey. Great admiration for neighbouring county.

Calling out kerry and referees is just calling as see it.
Ryan McHugh and Ciaran Thompson got badly injuries but didn't same level crying as league final.
