Not related but in Meath LGFA underage games if one team gets hammered they put the result down on the website as 1-0 v 2-0 so as not to embarrass the team that got hammered. I obviously don't know what exact results, teams or competition you're talking about in Cavan, but I'd point out that Cavan LGFA has to have competition regulations to state how such things are determined, and these must surely have been sent out to LGFA club secretaries before the championships began, if they're not published online. For instance, the Wexford ones I'm referring to are here: https://wexfordladiesgaelic.ie/2026-info-hub/rules--guidelines Your club secretary should either have the Cavan ones already, or else be very easily able to get them. For what it's worth, seems a strange way to me of doing things, but if they're the competition regulations then they're the same for everybody and would have been set out as such before the start of the competition. How that helps them improve is beyond me." I can tell you they don't do that here. Quick look through U16 results shows me scorelines like 9-11 to 1-4, 8-15 to 0-4, 11-10 to 2-1, and 10-16 to 1-3. Our coaches are requested to instruct the team to only go for points if they are ahead by a large score line, empty the bench and take of the scoring forwards. Lob sided games are not good for either team. In the example I've given, apparently the rule was introduced at underage level to minimize the hammerings, but somehow it was brought into adult football years ago. If it was known (and that is the fault of management for not knowing), the team should have brought the fullback line and keeper up to midfield and forsaken defending so that they got the necessary 2 points to progress.
