I've after perusing the Wexford GAA Bible.... Marshalstown had Mitch Jordan most famously. St.Fintan's had a heap of lads in the pre-Rackard days, the most recent being Paddy Kelly in 1952. OLI and Kilmore have had no-one from what I can see, although would John Meyler technically count for OLI? And I'm fairly sure that Willie O'Neill captained Wexford to the minor All-Ireland in the 60s, hurled a few games at senior subsequently and they would have been joined with St.Anne's at the time. Paddy Kehoe Gusserane's most famous, and only, hurler. Craanford haven't had anyone play senior yet, but Joe Conroy was corner-back on the minor team in 2019. Think one of the O'Loughlin brothers would have been floating around the panel for a spell in the 00s. beano (Wexford) - Posts: 1535 - 23/04/2026 19:37:10 2668210 Link 0 |

I had completely memory-holed him tbh, was half-wondering whether the former TD John Browne played for both Marshalstown and Wexford

Checked back and I got the Cairde Loch Garman email with the team selection for match v Kildare at 12 o'clock last Friday. Senior football team for match v Louth was on it as well. They'd have gone online an hour or two later, like they normally do. Might be roughly the same sort of time this week then.

I remember my name being in a headline in "The Echo" for a goal I scored that won an U12 match for us. I put it in a scrapbook that's very possibly still in one of the old boxes in the attic in my mother's place. Maybe I'll have a look for it sometime. But yeah, very fact that there were newspaper reports on U12 group matches shows just how few matches there really were at the time. Imagine trying to do it now. No that's true nowadays would be logistical nightmare. Although it could be dine if managers sent a little report in to paper and have a section for each age , code division . With the amount of players nowadays at all ages . Could be a good marketing ploy fir local papers. And a way if promoting our games . Special section even . If club does nt send in report it does nt get in . Every young lad wants to see their name in lights . Just shows how impactful it can be you still remember it . I remember getting man of the match in a school game we were nt supposed to win . Was posted up.in the school on notice board in highlights . And I still remember it was prob first time I ever felt recognised as hurler . All helps in the growing lof our ove for the game . Looking forward to tommorrow let's hope we bring our A game Formertownie (Wexford) - Posts: 580 - 24/04/2026 12:28:49 2668335 Link 0 |

Unchanged squad as far as I can see bar Simon Donohoe coming in for Stephen Martin on the bench ElGranSenor (Wexford) - Posts: 1089 - 24/04/2026 13:14:50 2668343 Link 0 |

Would it make sense to start Jippo? I'd be worried about Conor on TJ, Kilkenny will definitely launch in some bombs. Also it's not like TJ will run the legs off Jippo and he'd match up with TJ in air better than Conor. Fulgrim (Wexford) - Posts: 284 - 24/04/2026 14:39:10 2668370 Link 0 |

Think KK will look to go long tomorrow and target our spine, think a sweeper would help us out (Especially if they don't start Richie Reid) ElGranSenor (Wexford) - Posts: 1089 - 24/04/2026 19:25:53 2668426 Link 0 |

Another bit of reminiscing coming up. About 20 years ago, I was part of a committee that was set up to try get more publicity for the All County Leagues. Basically, the four of us were assigned a couple of divisions each in hurling & football, and it was our job to get details from each club after each match so that short reports could be cobbled together for the newspapers each week ("The Echo" was still in operation at the time too). It was a nightmare job. You'd be chasing people until all hours of a Monday night after a weekend's matches, and there were many who you'd never get at all. Some clubs were particularly bad. Even if they gave you details by fax (yes, fax!) or email or over the phone, you couldn't rely on them. For example, a common problem was them saying something like their team scored 2-14, but then when you added up the list of individual scorers they sent, it'd come to something like only 1-12. Or one club would say that they won by 2-15 to 1-12, but the other club would say that they lost by 2-13 to 1-13. It's a lovely idea in theory to say "clubs send in details so that they can be published" but the reality is it's far from that simple. Feels like a huge day for us today . Have a feeling it could be season defining for both teams . Match ups will be key would expect Shane Reck will pick up Eoin Cody and wouldn't be surprised to see Jippo or Donohoe start to mark Tj. We need more out of our forwards Lee can't do it all on his own. We need to play real intensity and run at them from the off . I think a win could give this young team huge confidence to push on for the rest of the year . A loss and its do or die against Dublin. Best of luck to the lads today go out and give it your all and good luck to the minors in the earlier game too Afinestick96 (Wexford) - Posts: 990 - 25/04/2026 07:24:10 2668477 Link 0 |

Hopefully the weather picks up a bit. I'm really looking forward to travelling up to Nowlan park today. With a bit of luck the lads can put another nail in KK's confidence, god knows they did it enough times to us in the noughties. Up Wexford!
