Wexford Club Hurling 2025

Was anyone at the U21 game between Oylegate and Davidstown? Per the paper, Seán Rowley scored 1-08 from play, that's fair going. Davidstown do seem to have some decent talent coming through for a club who I would not consider to be particularly "big"

Yeah that side of the river is Shamrock territory. The other side (town side) is Rapps/Starlights and as youd imagine there was always a bit of animosity between both.

Especially when Skippy Ruth leaves Shamrocks to Join fhe Rapps. Hilarious craic in pubs at the time

They are working hard at underage.
Just out of interest with the parish rule we have why do you think a lad born in Piercestown or the Ballagh is neccessarily any more talented than a lad born in Courtnacuddy?

Did not go down well!!

People forget that mid 90s or so I think Shamrocks had really good underage batch coming through, they won the double at Premier minor football and hurling im pretty sure?

They have struggled in recent years, Junior hurling and junior a football and a look at other results placed them well down the divisions at underage and not a huge amount of success.

There's a lot of really good people there, would know a few of them well but its a slog, they'd tell you that themselves but in many ways they work harder than a lot of other clubs to even maintain where they're at. Unfortunately demographics and other aspects that side of town doesn't help them.

Fairly sure I never said anywhere that someone from Piercestown or the Ballagh is naturally more talented than someone from Courtnacuddy, same way that no-one from KK, Cork, or Tipp is more naturally talented than someone born in Wexford and the same way someone born in Wexford isn't anymore naturally talented than someone born in Kildare, Westmeath, Carlow, or Antrim

Martin's and Oulart have been a lot more successful than Davidstown though (In the same way that KK, Cork, and Tipp have been more successful than us and in the same way we've been more successful than Kildare, Westmeath, Carlow, and Antrim)

That's down to culture and tradition which are hard to build and develop and take time

Shamrocks won Premier Minor Hurling beating Harriers in final - possibly 1995 .. They also competed in Premier U16 Hurling Final that year loosing to Rathnure after a replay if i'm not mistaken

Picked you up wrong so. But your post didnt say be more successful as a team, it said have decent hurlers coming through.
Agree culture and tradition help, well specifically it helps having more parents in the parish who love the game and play with their children from a young age, which traditional hurling clubs would have. But every club has some parents who fit into this category, so every club can have decent hurlers coming through, just less of them generally.
What also helps any club is to have people prepared to put the time and effort in to become better coaches, and then spend more time as in days per week, and weeks per year, coaching young lads. And any club can have these people if the people there want to do it.

They won the Intermediate hurling championship in 96, reached the final in 2010, and won it again in 2014, likely all with alot of lads off those 2 teams.

See new Wexford Jersey is up, more like the older styles back in the early 1900's, more purple, less gold. Pikeman on the front, https://www.oneills.com/oneills-wexford-gaa-home-jersey-2026-wexford-purple-amber.html

The pikeman looks like you spilt your drink down the front of the jersey unless you look closely

Pikeman is very cool

That's very annoying but I'm guessing it's just the fabric colour batch or something??

Yeah, but you can name a web page anything you want. No actual need to put the colours into the URL at all.

Its all about the men filling the jersey lads, not about the jersey itself.
The worst jersey Wexford ever had was that abomination where the purple ran in to the yellow as if somebody accidentally dropped a tin of paint over it.

Agreed about that worst one ever.

And I personally wouldn't mind if our lads played in black and amber stripes, so long as they went and won something!
