Not picked to start again..is there much point on him being in panel if not being used? CTGAA10 (Limerick) - Posts: 2527 - 23/05/2025 12:15:55 2611862 Link 0 |
Poor enough game between Cork and Waterford today.A bit better in the second half but Waterford probably should have got a penalty in first half and cork player should have been black carded. Not sure it would have made a difference but it might have. Hope Limerick win the munster final now. brayballer (Wicklow) - Posts: 145 - 25/05/2025 19:04:33 2612487 Link 0 |
Congrats to Cork who won and that's what matters most. They were slightly better and lucky. Like you said another day Johnnie red card would have given a black card. I 'd liked to know the explanation or is this card gone. Two players impeded Bennett from scoring which I gave little doubt he would have. He was also unlucky to hit the post. Prunty unlucky for one and one gifted by Paddy Leavy. Another year of disappointment after just playing well enough to lose. Prunty still top three full backs in the game. Bennett is a marvel for his medical conditions. Will not be considered for an All- Star as not on the All-Ireland winning team. Not that these flawed awards matter.

I think 'hurling' doesn't like black cards, because they're seen as 'a football rule', and any self respecting 'hurling man' wants as little to do with football as possible. Hence any referees seen to be enforcing this rule and issuing black cards will likely be viewed with skepticism and suspicion by 'hurlingman'.

Canuck ye should have had extra man for 10 minutes.I don't know what the rule is anymore on black card.. CTGAA10 (Limerick) - Posts: 2527 - 25/05/2025 22:12:22 2612550 Link 0 |
Cork was there for the taking. Waterford just didn't have enough assassins to complete the job. Cork went man to man again today. That didn't work too well against limerick the last day. It will be interesting to see how they structure up for the Munster final. The fire will be in their bellies alright, and I expect the Cork to be a different animal, but going man to man and their not playing deep in the middle third is difficult to understand.

Yes it might be the end of the road for some. I don't see us going back to the terrible 80's. Some decent young players around like the Fitzgeralds that need to play more. Sean Walsh seems like a good prospect. The minor team is good this year. Remains to be seen if there is enough. I hope Peter Queally is kept as his determination can be seen in the team. He had the liathrodI to let Dessie out and proved right. Pulling off a player of Patrick Fitzgerald skill or not having him in has to change. I know he is very young.

Congrats to Waterford also, going to the Pairc as a visiting team is damn hard to do. With a huge home crowd up on the refs back will often sway the ref's the decision in favour of the home team. Waterford were very much in the game though and If Stephen Bennetts shot that hit the post went in would have been a huge momentum swinger. I did think before that Cork likely had too much for Waterford (considering the bench they had and home advantage). I feel like if Waterford have 15 top class players but in the modern game you need 20. If they can add these they can be a force again. I agree if the All Stars were being given out today Prunty, Barron and Stephen Bennett would definitely be in the mix. Cork and Limerick in the Munster Final is going to be a massive occasion. Cork with a point to prove after their last trip to Gaelic Grounds. As Limerick learned from Clare yesterday, even if you are a small bit off, Munster Teams will take you apart LimerickandProud (Limerick) - Posts: 164 - 26/05/2025 09:10:29 2612604 Link 0 |
Canuck, it does look like referees have been told not to issue black cards anymore. The only recent one I can recall was against a Clare defender in the Under 20 final v Tipperary, and that looked a doubtful decision. There have been a few blatant transgressions at senior level that have gone unpunished. I thought Johnny red card, as you call him, did a decent job overall, but if he had lived up to his name he must surely have sent off the Cork defender who appeared to strike his opponent near the corner flag, but only got a yellow card. I would have no fears for the future of Waterford hurling. They continue to produce quality young players, and having finally settled on a local manager I believe they are heading in the right direction.

Isn't there something broken in the System where Waterford and Wexford are out of the Race for Liam McCarthy and Laois and Kildare are in. LimerickandProud (Limerick) - Posts: 164 - 26/05/2025 11:35:31 2612678 Link 0 |
If Laois and Kildare's 2025 form is better than Wexford and Waterford, why would them playing Tipp and Dublin be less appealing than Wexford and Waterford playing them? They'll have earned the right based on 2025, not the last number of years.

It would but it would make a total mess of the round robins. 4 from 5 qualify in Munster and 4 from 4 nearly in Leinster. I know Offaly put up a few good shows but Wexford Just need to beat them and Antrim to qualify. Imagine if Waterford tailed off in Munster, we won't always have 5 evenish teams. 4 strong teams and no jeopardy. You wouldn't be filling stadia with that sort of a competition. The atmosphere at Cork v Limerick in Pairc Ui Caoimh was epic last year. 4 qualifiers and Cork rest a few lads for that and aim to beat a weaker Tipp the following week. 4 qualifiers would be a disaster. Only way to improve the hurling championship is to make more teams competitive, 12 / 13 competitive teams and you could potentially have a super 8's after the provincials to decide AI semi finalists. Can't drain any more games out of 7 to 9 competitive teams unfortunately without diluting everything. dahayeser (Cork) - Posts: 374 - 26/05/2025 11:53:00 2612691 Link 0 |
Leave the hurling the way it is, the new format is working very well. Gonzalez (Laois) - Posts: 12 - 26/05/2025 12:35:45 2612705 Link 0 |
That's certainly the narrative but I'm not sure that stacks up. Limerick are ahead of everyone in terms of sustaining that level of performance. Wexford and Galway have given Munster opposition plenty of it. Kilkenny have beaten Clare in aisf. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3669 - 26/05/2025 12:57:31 2612713 Link 0 |
It was good that "Johnny red card"didn't send off the Cork defender for a strike. It was of a trivial nature, much like the Waterford strike on Shane Barrett. Red cards destroy games, and in fact, the Dublin/Galway game could easily have had 3 or 4 red cards, but the referee brandished a few yellows. The Cork/Waterford game didn't warrant red cards, the black card in hurling is rarely enforced, and Johnny refereed the game well!

You have absolutely no way to validate this claim. They'd probably beat us alright but our performances against Munster opposition in championship have been decent enough over the last decade. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3669 - 26/05/2025 13:48:22 2612734 Link 0 |
Oh did I hit a nerve. I have no skin in the Munster Hurling but I would prefer Limerick to win.Why does that bother you? Are you Galway? Do you get upset when other contributors dont support the teams you do? A bit childish really! Just cos I have an address in Wicklow does nt mean Im from there but maybe you not old enough to understand that.
