So with neither day near a sellout there was no reason Donegal shouldn't be playing on Sunday but regardless of how many attend it's disgraceful that the GAA are making Donegal play after a 6 day turnaround

If Donegal wernt playing Louth at the weekend, they probably would have had a in house game

It would have been harder than the Louth game. That's not a dig at my county we just never turned up, and anything after the Leinster Final was always going to be a massive ask

I have to say I was down on you for a long time but your suddenly turning into my best friend. I might call for the tea on the way to Croke Park on Saturday.

I'd be very surprised if Sunday is not over 70k

Replying To BarneyGrant:  "Unholy mess regarding tickets for Dublin v Cork. Those of us with Parnell passes okay, Season ticket holders will have theirs.

After that seems to be confusion regarding club allocation. Apparently Dublin clubs haven't been doing individual applications for a few years? I assume they will all look for tickets for this as they would for football semi/final.

Cork supporters seem to be in bigger quandry as hear the clubs don't do orders at all??

GAA really needs to be taking back control of ticketing for big games like this. Might be awkward for club secretaries but Cork and Dublin clubs should have first dibs after county passes and season tickets."
Cork clubs are definitely doing orders Barney. In my home club we had no access to terrace tickets but were given an allocation of stand tickets. The hope in Cork is that there will be between 50,000 - 60,000 Cork fans in attendance. Like yourselves our season ticket holders have been provided for, although the Ticketmaster release was an absolute shambles. This limited release of tickets is a farce though and results in a panic for those on the site who click on seats only to find out that these seats are now gone. Fullly agree on your last sentence, definitely the fairest way to do things.

Very good. Be some crowd from Cork by all accounts. Dublin hurling support as measured by Parnell for championship is 6/7,000. I would expect more club members and football supporters to pay more attention after last weekend but be 70:30 Cork I'd imagine.

One positive about a semi final is that it is overwhelmingly county supporters who turn up as there is not the same requirement - or any indeed - to bung thousands of tickets to others as in finals.

Semi Finals are kind of the "peoples final"

I know the Cork bandwagon is swelling but we have only ever sold out 1 semi final. That was Limerick, the second biggest fan base and with a huge rivalry kicking off.

Dublin is expensive, trains sold out, 8+ hours on the road round trip and Dublin just aren't the draw Limerick or even Tipp would be. Cork fans will expect to win, the bookies have them at 1/8 on. Unless there are 40k Dubs I don't see this selling out

Bandwagons are fickle. Cork could nearly have filled the Gaelic Grounds for the round robin with Limerick on their own. We got hammered. For the return match in the Gaelic grounds, with the Munster title at stake, half the bandwagon had bailed and we sent back 3k of our ticket. I don't see Cork bringing 60k to this. Interesting to wait and see.

Possibly. There is of course element of ticket sellers talking up games to create early rush.

Dublin football bandwagon is in sidings and will hardly return any time soon. Interestingly that section of Hill that has been open last two games is more or less same crowd that turns up in same section for league and that travelled in big numbers to Galway and Newry. Most of them were there for the hurling last week too.

That's the hard core and mostly club people and many of them will have more time with all games off for the big county days from now on. Preferable to lads and lassies shouting "come on number 8"! Although there would be far less at the bigger games without them I suppose.

Bandwagons - when it comes down to it, every county has a big one.
No county has more than 8-10k of a core support who go to all the matches. But every county has a huge bandwagon when a bit of success becomes possible.
Compare attendances for the likes of Wexford matches now vs 2019, or Cork or Tipp or Limerick or Clare matches before they became competitive. Very small.
Kilkenny and Galway have never been good supporters.
But its the same the world over no matter what the sport.

'Well done to Galway for bringing a brilliant away support'.

That's a direct quote today, from a Down poster on the Galway Football page. No reference at all made to 'never been good supporters'.

Take a trip over to that football page Mister Tash, and inform yourself.

With the odd exception we only get good attendances when we reach Croke Park. Or play Kilkenny. And that's been the same since the 90s at least.

In his defence I read the above as referring to Galway hurlers?
And between Galway and Tipp they brought 15k to an All-Ireland Quarter Final? Not great support for either county?
