Replying To dahayeser: "I think any hurling person wants the game to be going well everywhere. Get Dublin, Offaly and Wexford up the ladder a bit further and you have a cracking Leinster Championship that will draw big crowds.
The GAA should be investing in underage in these counties where needed. Similarly they should be keeping an eye on Waterford or any Munster county that might be slipping. This is the show case that really helps grow the game.
If you could then space out the Munster and Leinster championship to have Leinster games one week and Munster the next with competitive provincial hurling games live every weekend through out April, May and June the game would have a great platform.
Plenty more to be done too in other counties of course but the low hanging fruit must be assisting counties where the game is already strong. Get them going will and there will be a financial and promotional spin off to lift the game across the board." That's all well put

Sam 18,731 - Donegal Mayo 12,342 - Dublin Derry 8,265 - Kerry Meath 6,791 - Tyrone Cavan
??? - Armagh Galway ??? - Monaghan Down
??? - Louth Clare ??? - Roscommon Cork
Tailteann 11,500 - Kildare Offaly + Kildare Dubs hurling ??? - Fermanagh Sligo - looked like a good crowd ??? - Limerick Wexford ??? - Wicklow Westmeath
Hurling Laois Tipp - Radio estimated 6/7k, mostly Tipp followers
Looked like fine crowds at Armagh v Galway and Monaghan v Down.
I wasn't a fan of this 3 teams qualifying from 4 system but you have every team in the country playing 4+ meaning full championship games. Lots of teams with realistic prospects of silverware and as a result big crowds. The new rules have made things far less predictable. So many good football games this year so far.

Probably 250k at the SFC group games.

Jesus I didn't think there was that many Tipp supporters there.

Huge crowd in Newbridge and vast majority there for hurling too. Great town for a match, slap bang on the main drag. It is perfect for Leinster early round games and underage and club. Job well done to KCB.

Well done Kildare on a great double header.
At minite only for Armagh, Donegal and Cork (hurling support) the numbers are down across the board for supporters.
There is no doubt that too many matches a factor in this €€€€
In terms of attendance probably do well to reach the 12k mark this weekend at TC Semis in Croker think previous years been below 10,000 mark. Kildare likely bring biggest support, 4-5k, Wicklow might travel well, while can see Limerick bringing many as its Hurling for most there. In this situation think GAA should offer 50 free tickets to every club juveniles teams in participating counties and possibly subsidise transport to help get possibly 3-4 thousand kids into the game, give them a day out and add bit more atmosphere to the day, its a win win.

Good idea on the kids. Be great way to promote a bit of buzz among the counties. Works really well with LGFA and has ensured big final crowds and boosted playing numbers.
Its not even a loss to the GAA as they would not be losing out on seat sales.
If all the event cash from rugby and the other stuff is supposed to be channeled into the Association let them put their money where their mouths are and put on a show for the next generation.

The stand in Brewster Park was full and there was a sprinkling of supporters on the terraces when they opened them. I'd say maybe in the region of 4-4500 at it. Some Ernesiders might have a better idea on the capacity of the stand but there was no more than 2/300 outside of it.

Somewhere like Newbridge should really be upgraded to a 30-40k stadium to take the Leinster Hurling Final out of Croke Park. It would be a perfect place for neutral games too.

They levy every club in the country for them at the start of the year. And then, when the finals come round, clubs think "well we've already paid for the tickets anyway, so we may as well organise a bus or two, and use them....."

21% year-on-year rise in attendances for this year's All-Ireland senior football round games. In one of the best championship in recent times, crowds have been flocking to games being played under the new rules.
I'd estimate around 240,000 this year.

It's a nice ground as it is, expecially since the new stand was built, and there is some room to increase capacity. But 40k is pie in the sky talk. Parking would be a huge issue to start with, and there would no doubt be other planning issues also.

Traffic is just about manageable as there is quick enough egress as it, but no way you could treble the capacity. Be impossible anyway, and my knowledge of building and planning is minimal! Bit like Parnell, you are stuck with what you have. Size wise I mean. Our place is nowhere near as cool!

I think 'flocking' might be stretching it somewhat but there's definitely a noticeable increase in attendances thanks to the better quality of games despite the deluded insisting it was the amount of games rather than the quality that was keeping people away… !!

The games have been better, (that wasn't hard) but they are still a bit meh. Still loads of **** football, sideways backwards, sideways, backwards repeat x10.
I wonder if now that we're in to straight knockout games will we see a change in the ebb and flow of the games.

Overall it's been a great championship to date with loads of really good games. Football has been miles better than recent years and much more exciting. Do they still pass the ball around at times to probe for openings - yes of course. But there's a great balance now with contested kickouts, long range scoring, high fielding etc. Long may it continue.
The only popular field sport I can think of that doesn't involve some kind of possession is hurling. And I'd argue that there has been a lot more quality games in the football championship than hurling this year (which hasn't been the case for a long while).

Keeping the sliotar in hurling is getting more and more prevalent. For the same reasons as in other sports.
