Replying To Kew:  "The urc upload a game onto YouTube every week. They already uploaded the urc final for fans who cannot afford to pay and for marketing reasons.

How bad has things got that the rugby community are thinking about fans unable to pay more than the GAA community? Why don't the GAA+ upload the best game onto the YouTube channel like the rugby do? It will help grow the channel and provide disadvantaged fans a chance to watch a great game."
Not familiar with what exactly the URC put on YouTube each week, but it does occur to me how the final was already on free-to-air TV, and is already on the TG4 Player anyway.

Likewise, any of the GAA matches that are shown live and free-to-air each weekend become available on the RTE Player shortly afterwards.

Do the URC in other weeks put up matches that weren't free-to-air in the first place?

Fair point indeed. They surely will if they allow more censorship and editing of what people can say. But we probably think movies, music, other TV shows now aren't as good as 20 years ago but people who are same age as we were 20 years ago think they're great. I still think the Sunday Game needs a bit of livening up though.

They put up the best game of the weekend on YouTube every week. its a great idea

Also Armagh v Galway was on so the urc YouTube would have uploaded last year's game in the week leading up to the game for build up.

GAA is completely out of touch with modern sports marketing and fan engagement.

Hard to believe that the 4 football quarter finals are only on GAA+. RTE are showing the 2 hurling quarter finals. It's very unfair for football followers having to fork out €11.99 to see any of those games.
Surely a bit of balance is needed.
2 football games free to air
2 football games on GAA+
1 hurling game free to air
1hurling game on GAA+
It certainly wasn't thought out very well.

It's the same every year the subscription services gets those 4 games. No point in moaning every year about it as its nothing new.

It was thought out very well by the gaa, that's the problem!

It is a deliberate policy and it will continue now for good now they have 100% control of streaming.

That's until the county boards kick up and say why can't we stream games ourselves that gaapaywall won't cover

That's all good and well but it's like everything in life until enough people stand up and shout about the unfairness of the structure nothing will change.
The alternative is say nothing and accept whatever they throw at us.
Terrible for lifelong supporters of those football counties who may not be able to travel to their game, or not able to afford €11.99 or are not up to speed on streaming.
Nice caring folks on GAA+, aren't they?
I know it's a business and 83% is pumped back into the grass roots but it should also be about looking after the less well off and allow some of them to see their game without a pay wall for all 4 games.

Should we be told where the money is spent in gaa+? A bit like casement park the money involved in GAA+ doesn't make sense. For what we are paying the product is very poor and limited games shown.

How many times does it have to be said. GAA+ games are additional to the ones shown on free-to-air TV.
If GAA+ ceased broadcasting, there would no extra games on free-to-air TV.

Are The Data Protection Commission working with GAA+ to crack down on those using devices to avoid paying for subscriptions at the market rate?

Sky, primer sports and others are involved. Id imagine the gaa are losing millions so likely in discussions

Good enough for them if they are loosing money… they should not have games behind a pay wall to begin with….!

Not quite true. The package was first on TV3 before moving to sky and then to GAAgo and GAA+.

So you're ok with illegal and unethical behaviour breaching copyright and broadcasting law. As well as depriving the GAA of revenue and thus clubs of funding.

I agree with you Brianb the games were on tv3 before the money came into it..I can't see a problem with matches being on tv stations at same time and supporters will watch what game they want.
At this time the tailteann is on RTÉ,tg4 are showing minor football at same time..
I also see the price of a semi final ticket is now €60..it is now at a stage where a lot of ordinary support is being priced out..

Times are tough for many but where does all the money come from to pay for TV broaadcasting, to reduce ticket prices when prices are continuing to rise?

GAA+ is very poor lads. Today in Down no one knew if points were over the bar or not. No camera behind the goal just one across from the stand? Commentators saying it was wide but given as a point ? 11 euro for a game and for what ? These are big games if they can't provide a normal standard at these high prices were is the money going ?

Not true as your assuming all those people would either subscribe to the match or go to it. Guaranteed that would be a very very low percentage.

They should have left it with TV3 who the GAA owe a debt too over the last few years. If anything they should have expanded TV3 coverage. They have done more for club football than people realise. But no, GAA got greedy4

It's meant to be peak season, 6 top level games this weekend and one live on rte!

I can't wait for the league to come back - see a bit of gaa!

That's a flimsy excuse. Saying it's fine because they wouldn't have paid anyway is like saying shoplifting doesn't matter if you weren't going to buy the item. It's still theft.
Piracy devalues the GAA's broadcast rights, cuts advertising and sponsor revenue, and so inevitably hurts clubs. It's not harmless - it's freeloading that undermines the whole system.
