That seems concerning but I'm around long enough not to panicking over a Friday night challenge match in February.

Comparing Peter's, Good Counsel and the like against Kilkenny CBS would be a fairer comparison"
Long way off the mark trying to say Kierans is like KK Colleges combined. Couldnt be further from the truth.

I'd be guessing we had a team out similar to the one we played against Laois in a challenge game last year up in Bunclody that I was at in the League break week , basically the B string and a couple lads easing themselves back in.
Although we scored well that day against Laois, Conor Mahoney, Cathal Doyle and Mark Byrne all linked up well together, I think Doyle scored around 4 or 5 from play and set up scores from play and won frees for Mark Byrne also. All 3 weren't selected for our League panel this year though, they got dropped in January.

They're not a combined colleges team, but they do pull good hurlers from all over the county, and even neighbouring counties like Carlow and Tipp.
There's a lad starting for them this year from MLR for example, and lads from the south of the county.

Kieran's are artificially strong in a way that hurts other Kilkenny schools, they've great success but it comes at the expense of others

There is something in that and it's something I've heard been raised by Kilkenny people themselves and even a couple of teachers I was talking to from Kieran's itself. While Kieran's have always been successful, the last 12/13 years has been insanely successful even by their standards. You could count their losses on 1 hand and even then it's mostly been combined colleges like Offaly or Dublin and maybe get a good game off Galway or Munster winners some years. But it's come at the cost of a lot of players being lost and even some schools like Castlecomer who'd have been getting to Leinster A finals semi regularly for a long time loosing out or even Good Counsel loosing out on lads, (the likes of Richie Leahy not going to GCC). I think it papers over some cracks by winning all these schools all irelands, a load of good hurlers not getting to play at this level who are well able but not able to get a look in due to nearly every good hurler from the county and some neighbouring counties being there. The team they beat after extra time in the all Ireland last year, St Raphael's had the entire panel made up of lads from just 3 clubs (even then not even full pick of clubs) whereas Kiearans were able to bring on lads who were on the u19 Kilkenny development squad as subs. Similar to Tulla they beat the year before in the semi final. The loss of boarding really effected the likes of Flanans(until a revival the last few years) Peters, some of the Cork schools and even St Jarlaths, the footballing Kieran's, in the football side of things but Kieran's still seems to attract lads willing to travel from way outside the catchment area, in fairness it's a great testament to aura of Kieran's history but it probably has allowed a lot of lads to slip through the cracks, Kilkenny CBS might get a good crop every few years and that nearly hide a bit more. Well it's a Kilkenny problem and I'm sure they won't be looking on the Wexford forum for answers! More importantly I'd like to see our own schools doing a lot better, I'd like to see Enniscorthy CBS back up out of B and Peters and the Wexford CBS probably developing a few more players that they have available. Good Counsel while definitely a Wexford school are kinda like Ardscoil Ris in that it's very much a child of the two counties and common enough to see more Kilkenny or Clare lads playing for both ardscoil and GCC. Good to see a nice few Wexford lads playing in Fitz final while I'm on it!

Ah no the Fitzgibbon final was on tg4, you can get that in the UK. And the Leinster PP Senior A games were all on clubberTV, again available in the UK Jedobi.

We are well and truly in the drivers seat now. It will be interesting to see how the results go today - you would expect Tip to get the win and be our nearest challenger, who we will have at home.

Yep, in the league section. They then got to final and lost on pens to Keirans who beat GCC cosily enough in the end. They knocked out GCC last year in semi final too the CBS.

The morale in the camp must be very low, we haven't won a match this year yet and by all account(no matter what team we had out)we got hammered by carlow Friday night. That trip to Ennis looking like an nightmare next weekend

Talking to lads at the Carlow game it was a very very poor showing from Wexford but you'd hope we can still put in performances against Clare, Galway and Limerick.

It's hard on Rossi because he doesn't really have that many to come back into the panel that are going to change things drastically.

Lee Chin and a full fit Rory will add some power and pace but they are only two players at the end of the day.

Not sure if Liam Ryan and Mac are going to be involved at all this year.
