You'd imagine we'll see some of the following (Didn't start in this year's Championship) in the league: Simon Roche Cillian Byrne Seán Rowley Eoin Whelan Darragh Kehoe Michael Dundon Tucker Kinsella Jack Redmond David Codd ElGranSenor (Wexford) - Posts: 681 - 29/07/2025 16:04:29 2629054Link 0
I agree he shouldn't have made those comments in public although I do think he was fairly accurate with his comments all the same ElGranSenor (Wexford) - Posts: 681 - 29/07/2025 16:06:25 2629055Link 0

I wouldn't deny there may well have been some hard-hitting truth involved. But I still believe it's the kind of thing that should be kept behind closed doors. Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 3178 - 29/07/2025 17:43:41 2629082Link 0
Totally agree with you on this re the comments he made in public and he shouldn't be involved next year, but I don't think he was far off the mark. I think a lot of people have a very obscured view of the level of commitment of some of our players, I'm not suggesting all of them, but some. If current management had any sense, they'd be out the door and let someone else give it a shot, it surely can't all be managements fault for the past 4-5 years. wexfan09 (Wexford) - Posts: 36 - 29/07/2025 18:19:47 2629088Link 0

I wouldn't say it's a question of commitment, would say it's a question of belief instead The goal for every good young player should be to win All-Irelands with Wexford, not "merely" to hurl for Wexford ElGranSenor (Wexford) - Posts: 681 - 29/07/2025 20:51:12 2629125Link 0
The two from my club are out every single day Who do you think will retire? The age profile is pretty good now. We know Chin is staying. There's one I wish would retire. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 4002 - 29/07/2025 21:02:04 2629128Link 0
Agree 100% Steps of the Hogan should be the ambition for every single young player and their mentors should be telling them that. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 4002 - 29/07/2025 21:58:14 2629143Link 0
| Element of truth or not that's no reason to throw the players under a bus. If management were collectively unhappy they always have the option of dropping lads. At the end of the day it's up to management to get the most out of the team. My main criticism of the management collectively is they are still too slow to react to what's unfolding in front of them. It's an inexperienced by intercounty standards management team managing a pretty inexperienced bunch of players, hopefully they will all learn from this years Dublin and Galway games and not make the same mistakes next year. | Id be sure Des Mythen wants the best for the players and county, Id say those comments were borne out of frustration more than anything. So I wouldn't say he is wrong. However if players are being asked to look in the mirror first, that also applies to the management team he was a part of. Coaching, we look frankly clueless at times in and out of possession and have since Rossi's first league campaign. Selections, dropping the two Cians in Salthill was crazy. Changes during games, biggest failure for me, failing to deal with Hetherton and Mannion in our two biggest games. So it's that old saying about if your pointing the finger at someone there's three pointing back at you. Des was a fine underage player himself and club player too that maybe never achieved his true potential either. What the management team aren't to answer for is there enough players of sufficient quality available to compete at the highest level. The answer to that for me right now is no and that pool of quality players is shrinking. That's the biggest issue to be addressed and there's no quick fix. The go games club structure definitely doesn't help. Timbertony (Wexford) - Posts: 465 - 29/07/2025 23:08:35 2629160Link 0 |
For some reason I don't seem to be allowed to comment on that interview. What I found most disappointing was the lack of responsibility he took. He was forwards coach. His comments made no sense to me. One thing I'll say for Rossi is he's honest and always takes responsibility. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 4002 - 30/07/2025 08:17:12 2629183Link 0
I think that's perfectly reasonable. Some of the selections were puzzling but that happens and we don't see everything. The set up in those two important games was tactically naive. An extra defender might have solved the Dublin problem before it got out of hand. We needed a man marker to track mannion and if made no sense that we seemed to do nothing about it. Those two things could have made all the difference. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 4002 - 30/07/2025 08:25:39 2629184Link 0

My son told me about that Des Mythen interview and how he hung the players out to dry, if I was a player I would be asking him to explain himself and if he's not happy with our effort why isn't he replacing us with one of the hundreds of players lining up to do the hard yards for the jersey..... | Unfortunately he is probably right regards that lads just like to have the label(county player) look i m in with the county team . Heads up their ...s looking down on others . We don't call out players rightly so but they have to be responsible too . They need to do everything they can to improve themselves. Not just be happy to be in the fold . Listening to kerry players after all victiry ireland . And how they were vilified for losing to Meath . They used it to to motivate themselves . It's the standards they set for themselves that.will determine which direction their career path takes if you have the talent use it or at least push urself to the limits with the right attitude. Don't let ,I m now a county player be your pinnacle ,all ireland or your only ambition . Get out of your comfort zone test yourself. | 100% You can't achieve anything without belief, you can't have belief without trust. I know if I was a player I'd be thinking to myself how can I be open and honest with this lot and trust them. Bad move, terrible in fact and doesn't bode well in fairness for the group imho. tearintom (Wexford) - Posts: 1583 - 01/08/2025 09:57:33 2629592Link 0 |
