All Ireland Football Final 2024 - Galway V Armagh

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Speaking of colour clashes, Cork changed to a white strip when they met Galway in the '73 Football Final. I seem to recall hearing how Tyrone, their semi-final opponents that year, provided the geansais to Cork for the Final.
Would make an interesting quiz question. When were players wearing Tyrone jerseys first seen lifting the Sam Maguire at Croke Park?
Or maybe I dreamt all that up.

Galway for me. Think they have more depth and a stronger panel. Getting this far without Walsh or Comer catching fire is some going. If Armagh are to win this I feel Rian O'Neill will have to have a huge match.

Comer, Walsh,Tierney,McDaid,Finnerty if all five catch fire they would do some damage to Armagh......they could all easily score 0.03 each from play if they click and that's only the forwards!
I'm actually happy it's Armagh in the Final because we owe them a few after last year and this year's group games.
Also I will never forgive them for the thuggery at half time in 2022.
I have two words for Armagh **** them and roll on Sunday week

@katser: I think you're taking this a wee bit seriously.

Both teams in the final had to beat the two favorites to get there so you have all the makings of a classic. As others have said we have players that haven't caught fire yet. Id go one further, we have a team that has considerable resilience but I feel we've dragged ourselves across the line more than once. Is that enough to win an AI? I was particularly impressed by how Armagh not just beat Kerry but how in extra time they pushed on so convincingly and had energy levels the Kerry lads could only dream about. It's going to be close but I think Armagh have a bit more form than we've shown.

Replying To Fionn:  "Would like to see Galway win Sam tbh.

But after the semi final win over kerry, I think Armagh will do it now.
There just appears to be a steely determination about them this year.

Like the Hurling final - this has the makings to be a cracker...."
And Galway didn't have steely determination about them in wins against Dublin and Donegal? the main strength about Armagh is their fitness, bench options who can deliver an impact they now met their match in regards to fitness and bench options.

Derry are behind you all the way, the number 7 for Armagh needs special attention and not football wise.

I always thought the school holidays were far too long, the boredom usually ends in nonsense posts like this.

In the last six games the quintet you name have averaged 5 points from play per game between them and the most they scored in one game is 1-3. In the group game Armagh outscored Galway, 1-11 to 0-10 from play?

Armagh are slight favourites and justifiably so, they are brilliant. Any idea who is the ref? They will probably use Leinster/Munster ref.

What metric are you using to make Armagh slight favourites? Usual that's a comment relating to the bookies but they all have Galway as slight favourites......

Galway are favouritea and Sean Hurson (Tyrone) is the ref.I kbow a few Galway people not too enamoured with Hurson but I believe he is the best ref in the country by a distance. He carrys an air of authority and is good to keep up with the play.David Gough could nt keep up with plau in semi final and was gassed in extra time.Brian Gavin ( the ref assesor wrotw about Goughs fatogue).Best of luck to both teams in what should be a very entertaining final.

I might to the final if I have time to take from my busy schedule. Driving the lorries delivering fuel takes up all my time. Galway are formidable opponents. I'm hoping our bench and will to win can drag us over the line. Good luck to the Cross boys. Chucky Armagh!

I find it strange Mick that the GAA would appoint an Ulster ref when an Ulster team is in the Final.. this makes no sense to me as it opens up the possibility of ridicule should anything controversial happen on the day… Hurson may indeed be a good ref but why would the GAA leave themselves wide open like this when the more sensible and professional thing to do was appoint a ref from Leinster or Munster..?
