Whether right or wrong once the first appeal didn't work that should surely be the end of it after the first game is already played. Is there any other sport in the world where you still get to appeal even after the first match suspension? Sounds mental.

I think that's definitely true of north Galway, where the rivarly would be more intense. West of the Corrib, especially in Conamara, I know quite a few people who would shout for Mayo if Galway are out. The south Galway hurling fans seem to like us (and we would generally support Galway in the hurling). My local pub in south mayo has a Galway flag up anytime yer hurlers are in the final. Footballers would be a different story only being 7km from the border ;)

It seems to be vicious around Caherlistrane, Milltown and Dunmore. I was even taken aback by Corrandulla people. I think the older generations had an attitude of you always support your province once your county is out. I don't know did the end of knock out championship change that.

Back in April I would have been confident that Derry could beat Mayo in Championship, but I fully expect Mayo to put Derry out of Championship this weekend following Derry's recent lacklustre performances. Derry aren't at the races, not sure what is going on behind the scenes since they won the National League, but they have lost their traction and are playing like a mediocre Division 2 team at the moment. Mayo just went toe to toe with Dublin and drew, massive gap here. I expect Mayo to win by a large margin, probably >15 points, and it will likely end Micky Harte's reign. I think social media changed all that. Fans spouting abuse at each other online drives much of the hatred among fans. We always hear about how Ulster fans stick together but in my experience they despise each other. Majority of those spouting abuse on social media don't attend games and are just weirdos with no lives. Hate hasn't transferred to this sport thankfully. on the terrace and stand one can mingle among opposition supporters and enjoy the banter during games. Now compare that to UK soccer across the water, Supporters have to be kept separated and away fans not let out for nearly an hour so they don't start fighting with the home support when leaving stadiums at the same time. Ah yeah well most Galway ones wouldn't be shouting for mayo either and doubt they will be shouting for us tommorow already see loads of Galway ones shouting for derry just the way of it.. They're usually great games. Certainly the most tense I've been at since 2011 have been Dublin v Mayo. There's a bit of an edge to it, but sure that's part of it too.
