Good lord... this 'Longford on my mind' nonsense has reared its ugly head again! Nobody in the county knows that song or has ever sang it at a match or in the pub or in our solar system. It is up there with 'The Larries' nonsense (Larry Cunningham didn't mount a hostile takeover of the county, we are not the Larries). We don't have a song, that is the long and the short of it. No song, no Larries, not the Slashers either, its gold not yellow, in Leinster not Connacht, and on the list goes. If we did have a song, it would be Declan Nerney's 'Stop the World'. This we can all agree on. LongfordgaaAbú (Longford) - Posts: 604 - 21/04/2023 18:19:17 2472267 Link 0 |
Waterford has just released a new hurling song. Not bad but I think a song that represents all aspects of a county not just sport is better. Canuck (Waterford) - Posts: 3024 - 21/04/2023 22:14:57 2472298 Link 0 |

Disagree. Anthony Daly's speech in 1995 was the best.

County Tyrone don't have a monopoly on the O'Neills as they would like to think they do. They also ruled South Derry, South Antrim and South Armagh before the plantations.

That is the city though, Derry GAA has always been a rural thing. I think there are songs about Dungiven and a song called 'sweet moneymore'.

All hail The Gallant John Joe ( I think Come Back Paddy Reilly is the official song, but needs ousting) Calving4Sam (Cavan) - Posts: 89 - 29/04/2023 08:40:46 2474462 Link 1 |
Judging by the "music" blared in Croke Park these days, i think the DJ imagines they are in Los Angeles or Brooklyn :-) BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3451 - 29/04/2023 10:13:51 2474474 Link 1 |
