6 weeks to championship so I'd imagine there'll be a few tasty affairs yet.

After watching tonight,I think a lot of scores to be settled..my god for me I don't think Waterford could buy a free and thought ref was very harsh on them..how did breen not get a red for kicking Bennett??i thought Bennett got a lot of extra treatment from Tipp boys..I couldn't believe how open wateford were at the back..I also think with some of the players replaced by davy,he gave the impression he was laying down the law..Tipp to me look as if they might have something good on the way..A very good munster championship on the way.. What exactly did Barron get the line for? They never showed a replay of it? Bon (Kildare) - Posts: 2296 - 11/03/2023 21:49:52 2463454 Link 1 |
Struck Stakelum off the ball.

Don't think it was personal against Waterford or Bennett - be rather odd given that Cahill has just left them! - but shows intent on the part of Tipp. Games against Kilkenny and Dublin were tame enough, but they obviously have a point to prove against the other Munster teams after what was a humiliating year last. Given the free count was 2 to 1 in waterfords favour I assume you're being sarcastic. Parts of the game was very frustrating to watch given the stop start nature of it and the way it was refereed. I'm still as confused this morning as I was last night in who was lining out where on both teams! The looseness and marking was non existent for pretty much all of the game. The third quarter Tipp decided to pull everyone into their own half for waterfords puckout and 3 of the handiest scores I've seen at this level came off it. They only started hurling when Forde came on…he got the crowd going and riled up his team mates a bit too. Waterford couldn't handle him. There hasn't been too many more consistent forwards in the country for the last 5-6 years. Rarely has an off day. Unfortunately it looks like it maybe the last we see of Callnan. Not sure what part he would've played this year but you have feel for him having worked so hard to get back again. The high scoring I think masked how good either team are. As it stands there's little doubt in my mind they're still ranked 4th and 5th in Munster. Although from a Tipp perspective the signs are encouraging and we seem to have a pretty even panel and the championship team is hard to pick as it stands. tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 12/03/2023 09:23:05 2463463 Link 1 |

Could Callinan come off the bench late in matches I wonder?

Tiobraid the free count has nothing to do with if a free is a free or a sending off is to equal up. If that is how games are officiated then things are even worse than they are. They game should have ended up with Waterford playing with 14 and Tipp with 13. Breen off and anyone one of two other backs if not both. Deliberate head hits should be red and not flashing them for innocuous second offences. By the way DeBurca was pushed in the back for one of the goals. That could be added to the count.

Down drew with Derry. Kerry are guaranteed 3rd and a semi-final against Offaly or Kildare. Offaly or Kildare will qualify directly for the final. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8769 - 12/03/2023 16:59:18 2463544 Link 1 |
Am I right in saying league semis are Tipp/limerick,cork/killkenny no matter what way results go next weekend.limerick have the head to head with the win over Galway..Wexford veryunlucky v cork, injuries just destroyed them towards the end..was McDonald injured before match started,he was wearing a huge strapping on his leg.. a real bugbear of mine is overcarrying of ball being done by every team..players now taking 7/8 steps..blatant pushes being missed and vital scores coming the missed free..a strike of the hurley is a red but a ref gives yellow,a kick is a red but it was yellow this weekend..I hate being critical but decisions lately have become even more baffling.. Waterford v Kilkenny is now a league quarter-final? Cork v Kilkenny or Waterford Limerick v Tipperary legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8769 - 12/03/2023 19:21:07 2463585 Link 0 |
Hard to any thing but a Kilkenny win. Waterford will be down too many players. Maybe just a chance to run out some other players.

If Down and Derry lose next week will Derry be relegated on score difference as theirs is well behind or is there a play off.

Derry will be relegated on points difference. I think Down will have a strong chance of winning next weekend. If Kerry make the league final, with three weekends of McDonagh straight after league, R5 is an opportunity to rest regulars.

In fairness to Sheedy, while he was positive about Tipp's progress, I don't recall him saying that they would won anything this year. Any Tipp people I've been talking to are happy about the improvement from last year but they are realistic enough to know that they've started from a very low base. It will take them at least two more years before they are genuine All-Ireland contenders, in my opinion.

Likely ligament damage by the sounds of it and with the way the hurling year is now I'd say he's a major doubt to see time this year and obviously beyond that too

The original poster said Waterford couldn't buy a free - the stats show the opposite. That was my point. Yep I agree with the push in the back but he gave countless frees that I couldn't for the life of me see where he got them. Ronan maher took a shoulder to the chest from an incoming forward and he gave a free in! It was very frustrating to watch the countless stoppages. Both Ronan and Noel received nasty head hits but I wasn't crying out for red cards for them. If Breen is getting a red for that then god help the future of hurling. tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 13/03/2023 13:30:29 2463713 Link 1 |
