Almost every one of the current Dublin hurling panel is a senior footballer with their club. Without delving into the realms of hurling snobbery, you can't be at that lads! But I think Molumphy has done a good job with Kerry. As far as we go Fortune has been gaining good experience the last few years. Maybe he will manage our senior team one day. Rossiter seems to be doing a good job with the u20s it will be interesting to see how they go. When Egan got the job it was 2 other Tipp men Naher and Sheedy seemed to be getting linked most in the rumours. In fairness to Tipp people plenty of them have managed other counties over the years. An All-Ireland with no disrespect to Kilkenny had misfortunate circumstances that caused at least a second shot at it. However the record will show the cats won it and they did not cause a bad decision. At the end of the day if Limerick were not good enough they would not be where they are. I could be wrong, but I'd say in Wexford that a lot of intercounty hurlers are playing senior club football. Your point is very valid though. We know that the most talented hurlers at underage are also generally very good footballers, so in a county where football is king, they're going to be pulled towards the big ball from an early age. Near enough all of them play Senior or Intermediate club football. Some got on the Wexford Club Football team of the year. Football would definitely be the king in Galway, coming only behind racing, oysters, and Claddagh rings. Those are the things that come to mind whenever anyone mentions Galway, but never hurling. In Wexford these days it seems that hurling is the king. Here in Galway, we do have some intercounty hurlers playing club football, Daithí Burke being the most obvious example with Corofin, but many wouldn't be kicking a football at all. The level of commitment needed to be at your best, and to able to be compete against the top counties, surely requires a total commitment to one code, whether it be hurling or football. I would have been fairly sure that the opposite is true. Vincents, Cuala and Kilmacud Crokes - which of their intercounty hurlers are on both senior teams? Crummey, Donal Burke, Whitley, Hayes, Rushe - do they all play senior football? Yep reached a League Division 1 final and an AISF during that time. Matt Forde and Ciaran Lyng were scoring machines but there were good footballers in every position back then. It is to the detriment of both our Senior teams, but that's what preserving Irish games means down here. My lads all play and enjoy both as do all their classmates and clubmates, bar 2 u14s, 1 of whom doesn't play hurling and 1 who doesn't play football, and 1 u12 who doesn't play hurling. But Barney's point in general is true. Most clubs in Dublin aren't the superclubs most outside of it have heard of, and just keeping going, with the huge overheads associated with trying to promote the GAA and play the games at grassroots level in one of the most expensive cities in Europe, is a struggle for most clubs there. Laois are relegated. Kildare or Offaly are promoted. Laois and Offaly will be favourites for the McDonagh. Kildare have shown they can cause an upset.
