I thought Ireland had stopped doing them by this stage :-) Football on second so he still be able to take part as sub. Presumably the two other clubs and no issues and fair play to them and LC for facilitating Crokes. Should be good day, despite the hurling being first! He was never going to start for the footballers anyway, and will still be capable of coming on should they need him. I'm glad there was no postponement as it will be a good day hopefully and it would have been very unfair to Downs to have possibly taken them out of Croke Park which is probably for most of them their only chance of ever being on that field. According to a report in yesterday's Independent: "Before fixing both finals on the same Sunday afternoon some time ago, Leinster are understood to have consulted with Crokes on the issue of a potential clash and the club were apparently happy to proceed". I know the pitch size is the same but ask any player, they will all tell you in Croke Park you have space where you won't get it on a smaller county ground. Thurles, PUC and Croke Park are different animals regardless of a full house or not. I actually played in Nowlan Park, Dr Cullen and Parnell in the space 3 weeks in a row and they were all very different, it takes you a few mins to adjust to the pace of pitches and the goalposts against the stands behind. Yes, it has a large area but there are other pitches as big if not slightly bigger. The main reason players have more space in Croker is due to the surface. It's an incredibly fast pitch. The ground is firm no matter what the weather, the grass isn't thick or clumpy. It's like playing on a carpet. This means players cover the ground a bit faster, the ball also bounces a bit higher and also runs cleaner along the ground. For a player receiving a pass, a few fractions of a second can make all the difference in terms of being able to gather possession and get away from an opponent. Fantastic match, Heroic comeback by Crokes but Shamrocks in fairness had the nerve to steady the ship. From Dublin perspective, there are a pile of positives to be taken out of it. Think KC should be hugely proud, I don't think they could have done an awful lot more. I think Ballyhale might struggle at times with Ballygunner but I wouldn't rule them out as yet.
