Based on form lines, I'd say we have a great chance. Does make it more difficult if it's in Nowlan park of course.

A few observations from Saturday . The match was lost in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. We lacked intensity and our touch was sloppy at times. There was a couple of positives from Saturday though I thought we looked dangerous when the likes of Rory and McGovern ran at their defence. We could have scored 4 or 5 goals on Saturday . We need to be more clinical . Mac hit a half mary shot from the sideline which hit the post when Devitt was free to run in on goal. The same happened with I think Dunbar taking to shot for a point and Liam Ryan had ran through the middle and could have been in on goal with the right pass. I thought Kevin Foley, Dwyer and Jacko did well when they came on and deserve a start the next day. We need Damien and Lee back now these next 2 games are crucial. For Saturday providing we have Lee and Damien back I would go:
Lawlor
S Reck Jippo Devitt
Hanlon Reck Donohoe
Dee K Foley
Jacko Chin ROC
O Foley McGovern Dwyer

Likes of Conor Mac , Dunbar, Richie Lawlor, Hearne and Flood as impact subs

Yeah heard Skehill say on the Hurling Pod on Off the Ball that the Galway minors are playing Monday so probably arranging both for the same day.

Replying To Viking66:  "Grealish did very well on Rory last year too. Every player has a nemesis and he seems to be Rorys."
Agreed but in the absence of Chin he needed to step it up. Become a leader and win his own battle. He started great with the turnover for the goal but after that Grealish seemed to beat him to every ball. For all his talent we are still waiting on him to deliver consistently at championship level. As said, I highly doubt it was on Egan's instructions that he dropped back into his defence to pick up handy ball. He got fouled near the end in the full forward line anyway.

A lad in Kilkenny just told me Nowlan Park on Monday. They got Ed McDermott back he scored 1-4 from full forward against Offaly. It will be a tough game as they always are against Kilkenny!

Replying To ExiledInWex:  "The signs are not good for a long summer. While the team has been on the decline since 2019, I don't think any of the problems are new ones. Wexford lack ball winning half forwards. The backs get criticised but you can only bail so much water in a full back line.
I can't see Darragh Egan being Wexford manager next year because its the nature of sport but I think it has a ring of ignoring the problems to just blame the manager. Wexford are a poor side and have a threadbare squad since nobody in the 20-25 age grouping is pushing the elder statesmen out. Wexford need these players badly now and they are not putting their hand up or showing a willingness to put in the commitment.
But that said, in 2 years under Darragh Egan I have seen no game plan or style of play. I also think he is too quiet on the line, I'm not advocating Davy style antics but he fought for every ball like Brian Cody did for years. There's a happy medium.
But I'm not sure the players are there and this is the Davy legacy for Wexford."
Agree with you totally. Egan nor Davy aren't responsible really for player development. They are for want of a better term mercenaries brought into get results. In Davys case he has won plenty and Egan was part of Tipp setup when they won, so they both should know what a successful county setup looks like. Like every county there are always a few lads who won't commit for various reasons. To be fair to both, they do seem to run content enough camps with nearly all the best players committing.

Egan will go at the end of the season, tactically we do seem a bit confused let's be honest. But that won't even scratch the surface as to why we aren't competitive now, in terms of challenging for Liam McCarthy, nor won't be for a number of years it looks like. That has to be the target every year, not the odd shock win/moral victory or which of Dublin or ourselves are the least worse and be comfortably disposed of by a Munster team in a QF in Thurles. Standards all over the place need to be better.

Our backs are top notch so far in fairness. Only worry is I think the forwards are a bit light. Reading the report on the Offaly game, they only really pulled away halfway through the second half. While I felt we were in total control when we played Offaly two weeks ago and could have won by more. However,it's Kilkenny in Nowlan park so it's going to be very difficult. The lads are are good enough though.

I've asked this before why are the 17s or 20s put on before senior games..the fact that 20s can't play 2 matches in 7 days wouldn't affect both panels..it would also help with cost..if ye in Wexford go to 17/20 and senior in one week what is cost??its happening to every county, what is the thinking behind all of this??

I hear you...nor the year before either in Cork. But narrow QF defeats are still defeats and our standards should be a lot higher (1 semi final spot in last 16 years!). Thought Clare were very vulnerable last year, despite all the hard luck stories if we were good enough they were more than beatable on the day, KK proved it the next day out. On all form this year we look to have regressed as a team even further. Yet a lot of talk post game is that we still should get third given how poor Dublin appear to be, especially if we get likes of Chin and Reck back. Think in truth we are simply miles off being consistently competitive at this level.

I brought the 4 kids to Carlow Friday night. And Salthill Saturday. Between tickets, diesel, treats, and McDonald's on the way home, plus coffee to keep me sharp driving I went through 300 euro. Being in a corner of the country doesn't help. So your idea makes alot of sense to me.

We have never been consistently competitive in the time I'm following Wexford. Since the early 90s. If you told me in January 96 we would definitely win an AI that year Idve thought you were mad. The 1950/60s was probably the only time ever we were at the very top for a period of years in hurling and the 19 teens in football.
But I still dream every year. The same as 96. And 96 proved dreams do come true sometimes!

I suspect counties having a concede home advantage for certain games is a problem for u20, seems the idea these days is to avoid playing u17 with a Senior game, possibly big pressure on some lads still only 15 or 16.

Ah well now Viking from '92 on Wexford were coming. In '93 it took Cork three times to overcome them in the League Final and they beat our crowd, the reigning champs in the Semi Final. It also took Kilkenny a second go to beat them in the Leinster Final and they went on to win the All Ireland. The drawn game was absolutely thrown away as they were four points up with four minutes to go and Eamon Morrissey was switched on Ger Cushe after been held well by John O'Connor. Morrissey got four points in a row and the Wexford Management never switched O'Connor back on him- a fatal mistake. I think they were a better team in '93 but crucially they lacked a reliable free taker and with shrewder management they could have won the whole Caboudle.
Never forget that Wexford were the first team to win a four in a row and the first to have done back to back in Hurling and in Football-a proud record, only equaled by Cork and Galway, both over thirty years later.

From memory Kilkenny's equaliser at the end was an unbelievable point, moving the ball through the lines. Really not typical of the way the game was played at that time. I think after losing to cork in the league final as well Wexford were never going to beat Kilkenny in the replay. As you say '93 could be summed as 'what might have been'. Ye saw plenty of those days with Limerick back in the 90's as well.
