Replying To Doylerwex:  "Stop that now. He was sent home by an English man. His team mates deserted him"
"An Englishman", what are you dribbling on about?

Replying To Tirchonaill1:  "I don't agree with you, Keane was proved right, look at the way the FAI was run? the players should have stood up alongside him, we wouldn't even have got to the world cup but for Roy Keane, Quinn and his buddies hadn't the balls to speak up.
Anyway it's history now, Keane was one of the greatest players we will ever have, he is a brilliant pundit as well, some character.
I think Argentina had the chances to beat Saudi but just weren't clinical enough, I hope they can recover, Messi was very good but he is no Maradona that's for sure, I think Diego would have fought harder for the National team."
To quote Eamon Dunphy - Niall Quinn was a creep.

Yeah there was some fantastic World Cup content available during lockdown. It's hard to match the excitement of being a kid and waiting for a World Cup to see players you hardly ever saw. Two really superb World Cup books are World In Motion by Simon Hart and All Played Out ( also called one Night in Turin ) by Pete Davies. I can't recommend them highly enough."
Good start for Spain albeit against fairly inept opposition. They are so tidy on the ball. Busquets, Pedri and Gavi just do not give it away. Must be an absolute nightmare to play against.

Replying To Saynothing:  "Totally right, Irish team traveled out economy class while the big wigs flew first class. That was bad enough but having to use jerseys as goal posts in a car park took the biscuit. Keane had the winning mentality and others around him let him down."
When you represent your country you do what has to be done to win…. Keane was not prepared to do this so he was more than happy to walk… It was widely known weeks before the Finals that he didn't want to be there … look at all the International games he missed for Ireland yet could always play the following weekend for Utd…! As for his punditry he is just an amusing puppet for ITV and Sky with everyone laughing at his cutting and mostly silly comments…. And don't get me started on his pathetic attempt at management…

I don't understand Keane excusing Ronaldo for his recent behaviour. He says Ronaldo scores goals. True, albeit with diminishing returns. Ronaldo scored goals last season but Utd were awful. The statistics when Ronaldo plays this season are even worse. Even with all of the data and statistics staring him in the face Keane continues to defend him. He says it's bad management by Ten Hag? Rubbish. If Ten Hag had been cowed by Ronaldo's demands he may as well have headed back to Holland to pick tulips.

Keane knows from bitter experience that no player is bigger than the club. He went on a similar rant in his own time at Utd and found himself bombed out by Fergie. I can't help but think Keane is linking Ronaldo's current situation to that of his own experience in an attempt to further portary himself as being in the right. A thick man as we'd say up here.

Wrong, wrong and wrong again. I can remember Keane in a two leg playoff leading Ireland to a 2-0 win in first leg , Mick criticised him for not playing second leg even though Keane was injured. Pity the FAI and his teammates (if you could call them mates)didn't do what had to be done to win. To them it was , ah sure isn't it class, sing a lock of Irish songs and go home, great craic altogether. He didn't walk, plastic Paddy sent him home.

He got sent home because he refused to train and play. Sure what else could be done with him? What was the point keeping him there?

I think that's very insulting to some great Irish men who represented their country with distinction. You make them sound like a pub team. Lads like Shay Given, Steve Staunton, Robbie Keane, Damien Duff etc enjoyed very successful careers. They were key players at top end Premier League teams and were a penalty shootout away from a World Cup quarter final. Something that we're miles away from at the minute.

When you get sent home from a World Cup it's usually for a very good reason… It is something he will have to live with for ever… He would always rather play for Man Utd than Ireland in any case… Now that's the real definition of a plastic Paddy

Keane definitely didn't go on a similar rant, he was getting on and fergie wanted him out. Keane gave him a reason to do it but it was harmless enough going by the players accounts.
Did you watch the Ronaldo interview? He's obviously right about the club, look how it has been ran in the last 10 years it's a mess, going well on the commercial side of things but! Suits both parties that he's leaving anyway!

Well both Keane and Ronaldo had a dig at their team mates even if Ronaldo's was more thinly veiled. Ronaldo wanted out for sure and he's got his wish now. It will be interesting to see where he ends up. I see Keane had a bizarre pop at Newcastle in his analysis yesterday. As a Newcastle fan I would not want Ronaldo next nor near the club. Eddie Howe is doing a fantastic job and has developed an attacking, pressing team who work extremely hard for each other. Bringing Ronaldo into the equation would be ludicrous.

Keane appeared to suggest that Ronaldo would be affronted with the suggestion Newcastle would look to entice him to the North East. Laughable stuff.

Very good players.

They still celebrated dropping 2 points by surrendering a 2 goal lead in Amsterdam though.

That's where the whole thing started.

Can't see Ronaldo fitting in anywhere that wants to be successful at the top level.

So what? Sure they beat them in the Dublin fixture. Keane may be right in saying we should have secured three points having been two up in Amsterdam. But if we'd been offered the point beforehand we'd have gladly taken it, Keane included.

Yeah they were much the better team and deserved the win. A couple of nice goals too.
Gareth Bale looks done. He has been unable to make much of an impact. OK he won and scored the penalty against the US but by and large he has been very ineffective.

Wales very average today. Iran the better side. England v Wales in final group match. USA v Iran other match. England to account for Wales. USA v Iran winners qualify to next round.
