'loose cannon''. Haha. Pun intended?

It wasn't intended…. as you rightly refer to her as playing for Arsenal… She just plays too much on the edge… Any opposition management worth their salt knows how easy it is to get her back up and put her off her game….She does a terrible amount of moaning during matches

You posted something absolutely off the wall saying if you were culturally relevant or played GAA you would be automatically on television. Something along those lines. You went quiet after the post and now expect me to trawl through pages and pages to find it."
Where are the figures? Are you a teacher? If not what job do you do in the "2 schools" you work in?

I said that if you are African and living here and are one of tiny number involved in GAA or any other socially productive way your presence will be greatly exaggerated and yes, quite likely have been featured in the media.

There's a good few young fellas around here from European, Asian and African backgrounds playing. But I agree most are more likely to play soccer at the minute as their parents, if they are immigrants, are far more likely to have played soccer in Nigeria, Ukraine, or China than they are to have played hurling or Football when they were young lads themselves. As regards participation there are a lot of immigrants playing soccer here, and being "socially productive" that way. I know of a good few Irish families around here who would be soccer families also, and dont play GAA at all. Im sure up your way you know numerous Dublin born and bred people who would be the same, and theres numerous more Irish born and bred people up your way who dont play any sport, and view a hurl purely as a weapon to use in a robbery or revenge attack. Maybe for a bit of debt collecting also.
And most of the cricket clubs in Ireland have a good few lads from the Indian subcontinent playing for them.
Unfortunately people with your attitude aren't going to encourage any of the above categories of people to take up any GAA sports.

So. Its our fault. We hear this all the time do we not. Even their bad things are excused because we are not "welcoming." Wake up, smell the Coffee. They couldn't care less about us.

Still waiting for Flaker's stats on how less immigrants opt out of Irish than Irish kids.

Even consider the absurdity of this.

There's plenty immigrant children playing many different sports in Ireland in the communities they are living in. That's the point I was making.
You were the one who made the point that they weren't participating or being "socially productive ". You are wrong.

Barney thinks i am going to take time out over the weekend to do some research for him. It's gas how he keeps doubling down fully sure his hearsay argument is fact and i don't have anything to back it up. I am back in work Tuesday hope you can wait until then.

I will say it again, record numbers of Irish kids are opting out of Irish. That's my overall point. Irish born, Irish parents.

Since when?

Is Connacht Rugby a rival to Galway hurling? How many of the Connacht Squad were Galway intercounty hurling standard before they signed for Connacht?

Source for this?
Why would connacht rugby buy it
For what purpose as they're doing their own ground in galway up and clubs in and around ballinasloe don't need grounds

Now Barney I realise I am probably wasting my time here debating with someone who has no clue what they are talking about but here i will try again. I have posted previously about my work and how I am involved with multiple schools but you probably didn't read it or you chose to ignore it. You still rely on information from a teacher friend who apparently does exist.

The 2024 data we have shows a rise in the number of second-level students being granted Irish exemptions; up 33% at Junior Cycle and 22% at Leaving Certificate. This will be higher next year. You seem to think there are a huge number of immigrants that skew these figures. That is not the case. If you actually knew anything about the data collection and worked on the ground you would see that.

Now I can't share all of the data from individual schools for obvious reasons but I will give you an idea of the overall picture. This is a breakdown from 3 different small secondary schools in 3 different counties . They are all 3rd year students. Most exemptions are granted after assessments during 1st year carrying through to second year that's why I based it on 3rd year students.

Donegal School:
Class 1- 23 students/ 7 exempt
Class 2- 22 students/ 6 exempt
Class 3- 23 students/ 11 exempt

There are 5 Ukranian students included in the above.

Sligo School:
Class 1- 21 students/ 6 exempt
Class 2- 25 students/ 8 exempt
Class 3- 21 students/ 7 exempt

There are 3 Ukranian students and 1 American included in the above

Galway School:
Class 1- 25 students/ 6 exempt
Class 2 - 23 students/ 7 exempt
Class 3- 23 students/ 8 exempt

There are 4 Ukranian and 1 British student included in the above.

Now Barney you can keep coming on here posting absolute drivel if you want. You can keep pretending you are an expert on topics you know nothing about if you want. And you can keep getting your information from AngryJimPartiot2024 on Facebook if you want. But I am here with facts and I work on the ground everyday and can see the actual issues. If every immigrant left here tomorrow the drop out rate for Irish would continue to rise year on year.

Interesting I'm sure you can't divulge too much but can you give a flavour of how the Irish born and bred students get exemption?

The decision made by the principal each school following discussion with parents or guardians, the class teacher, special education teachers and the student themselves. It's really not that strict anymore and if parents push it on behalf of their child they will most likely get their wish.
