Shout out to Anto 'The Andytown Apache' Cacace. Bringing a world boxing title back to the Belfast. He's waited a long time and fought a terrific fight to stop his opponent in front of a packed Riyad crowd. Thoroughly deserved victory

Replying To Pope_Benedict:  "It might be all a bit more straightforward. Kids attach to these teams at a certain age, if they're winning all round them.

You can nearly tell a person's age oftentimes, by what team they 'support'. If it's Leeds, you're over 70. If you're in your 50s or 60s, you're possibly a Liverpool fan. United's 'new' fans are probably pushing into their 30s and 40s now. There's probably a sprinkling of Chelsea fans in their 20s at this stage, while I'm sure there's a fair few Man City fans in the teenage and national school age groups currently."
I'm a Leeds fan, so you have just dated me on that assumption. Not worried though.

I already knew all about it. Such as that many of the best RAF pilots were Polish. Not that that fact features heavily in too many of the usual narratives.

Very good news that Ireland along with Spain and Norway will formally recognise the State of Palestine. A long overdue move and very important in the context of daily Israeli savagery in Gaza. The Irish Government should also cut diplomatic relations with Israel and close down American and British companies in Ireland as punishment for co-sponsoring this evil.

The first part of your post is spot on. It's hard to put into words the extent to which the Israeli government has disgraced itself the last 8 months.

The second part of your post however is emotional drivel. Sending upwards of 300 000 irish men and women with families, bills and mortgages onto the unemployment line, at a time of a cost of living problem, would achieve what exactly?

Well it would send a clear message to the USA and Britain that their double standards in foreign policy and supporting rogue states like Israel have consequences. The Irish Government supported sanctions on Russia for its war crimes are the USA and Britain above international law?? It won't happen but it would make a good point if it did it's not about jobs and money. It was a positive move from the Irish Government today but they could have done a lot more before today such as supporting the South African case at the ICJ.

Cost of destroying the economy!
And where would the €4.5Bn needed to pay social welfare to those 300k come from?

Israel is an absolute disgrace and it's good to see countries stepping up. It might not seem that significant but if more countries follow it becomes a movement.

Secondly the people who go out of their way to boycott all American products or British products or whatever other country you want to throw in the mix should give their head a wobble. Meaningless attention seeking.

I just think Joe Biden and the USA have gone too far in their support of Israel on this occasion. It is outrageous the slaughter Israel has committed day after day. Getting rid of American companies is not a step Ireland would want to take and it is unfortunate but to supply Israel with the bombs to commit these massacres is an outrage.

Absolutely. One thing I often ask Israels dwindling number of apologists, is if Israel was ever to be uprooted and removed from the middle East,,, would they be happy to have it relocated on their nations doorstep?
Absolutely not is the answer.
But still, like it or not, and not being clued in too much on these matters, without FDI we'd be in a bit of trouble ourselves,, I live in ballybane on the east side of galway city and there are any number of people here employed by American companies in ballybrit and parkmore.
And even if we did take that step those companies would just relocate somewhere else.

"I will make no apologies for saying that I want GAAGO to become a major revenue generator for our Association, because we need that money to upgrade our facilities." Jarlath Burns

Why have the GAA not offered more money towards Casement Park if improving facilities is their priority?? Surely this is a project that the excess revenue raised should be going towards. It allows the British Government to do nothing about building Casement Park if the GAA offered more money it would put more pressure on the British Government to pay towards Casement. Yet the GAA don't seem willing to give any more money for Casement Park and the chance to host the Euros in 2028 is fading.

No thanks. I would lose my job along with thousands of other Irish people and send us back to the dark ages. This is one of the worst posts I've ever seen written on this forum. It's actually economic treason.

It's absolutely disgraceful and shameful what they are doing.
I also wonder too that if Israel was any other religion other than Jewish would there be more condemnation and outcry worldwide? It's like as if countries and people are afraid to speak against them at the risk of being accused of being antisemitic. They are getting a free pass on this whole affair .

Dublin City Council doing the full monty on some soccer match tonight.

Fan zones, massive traffic restrictions, a replica of the trophy, Mayor blathering about how positive it is.

This be same City Council that had heated debate about whether to ban Dublin flags during All Ireland week not that long ago! That pushed the homecoming into Smithfield during rush hour? Give me a break boys ...

We are a truly abject nation of fawning slaves.

(Historical quote by the way. Free Arnotts jersey to correct respondent :-)

Got a ticket yesterday afternoon and strolled over the river to it. Great night had by all, good game and wonderful atmosphere. Fair play to all involved.

Don't believe everything you hear down the boozer or read on your Ma's friend's Facebook. Dublin City coucil decided to put up the flags of both competing counties in the All-Ireland Finals seeing as Dublin is the capital and the games are to be played here.

It was a great matchmaking festival that year. From memory Abraham shifted Cleopatra at the back of the chipper.

Interesting interview on Newstalk this morning, around 8.15am.

It was with a young man who was introduced by presenter Ciara Kelly as being "Israeli" (not introduced as Jewish, not as being a holocaust memorial group leader, etc.).

And he was 100% in favour of Ireland's decision to recognise the state of Palestine, stating that it was an essential requirement of any 2 state solution.

He said that the majority of Israelis are stuck in the 7th October and are reacting emotionally to anything and everything happening at the moment. And when you react emotionally, you don't react logically.

I do believe he represents the majority of rational thinking Israelis, but those aren't the voices making the most noise at the moment. Unfortunately, the US and UK are listening to the latter. But this shouldn't deter Ireland from staying firmly on the right side of history.

You might do some research on the attempt to ban Dublin flags and banners before you try to smart.

If you were on your other site you could have me banned of course :-)

Cost money?
That's a bit of an understatement viking as well you know.
You'd volunteer yew tree, as well as hundreds of thousands of other Irish citizens for unemployment, and volunteer the entire nation to the resultant devastating consequences, to make a point to the US and Britain, both of whom are probably trying to encourage those businesses to relocate back home to begin with?

Spreading misery isn't the answer.
