Replying To Eddie the Exile:  "Agreed midfield remains a worry after Saturday, and the smash-and-grab 3 goals did cover that up. Need McBennett fully back and Mohan as an option to relieve the pressure McPhilips. Still, any day Monaghan beat a Cork team in senior football is a good one.

Meath have definitely entered the chat by the way. Went down to see them yesterday in Navan and they bullied Roscommon out of the game for long periods, especially around the middle of the field. Their old guard Menton and Donal Keogan were superb, Ronan Jones and Frayne very good too."
McBennett & Mohan when fit are easily our 2 best midfielders. However, Mohan at FF can be top notch !

Replying To DundalkGael:  "Yeh the games against Roscommon, Down and Monaghan are due for Drogheda now Ardee was damaged in the storm

When the original fixtures were released, our home game v Meath was moved to Inniskeen as Ardee is too small. Be interesting to see if Louth will try have it played in Drogheda especially if we need the 2 points (to stay up or a chance to go up)"
Louth are hardly going to play it in Monaghan territory

Will Sunday's game be full to capacity? What's the capacity of drogheda? Years since I went to a game there but surely with health and safety it can't be high. Yes I would agree great chance for promotion, a win Sunday sets it up. Louth won't be no pushovers by any means and a win for them puts them right in contention. Will this be last round we see of beggan roaming??

Replying To Farney:  "Anyway back to the Cork game.. I thought we got away with one at the weekend with our goals scored keeping us out in front.. The Cork midfield had our number, while we have some big lads in there, they weren't aggressive enough going for the ball. Sean Walsh from Cork dominated it when it was sent long into the pack of players. He constantly got in front of Louis Kelly and Gavin McPhillips and either won or knocked it down smartly to his team mates. That was until Bobby McCaul was taken on and he was able to compete better for the kickouts.."
interesting take from a comprehensive win...by the same logic you can thank beggan for his numerous saves too for keeping us well ahead...beggan has been brilliant this year. for every goal we've scored he's saved one id say

win and learn - we are going well but who knows what championship will bring playing a division 1 team

its so great watching monaghan players express themselves on the field but valid point on the midfield, lost too many kickouts vrs rossies too

Good point about the goals slightly masking the midfield issue. Once the Cork keeper stopped putting them out over the sideline, they must have won 90% of their own kickouts. If O'Hanlon hadn't played, doubtful if we would've won that match. His ability to run at pace and regularly beat defenders is something that we don't have elsewhere. Hopefully he can stay fit.

Thought our defence did well, Chris Og Jones had racked up big totals in the first few games, he was kept very quiet. Great to see Kieran Duffy back on the pitch near the end. Beggan has produced 4 goal saves against Roscommon, and another couple against Cork - he really is at the top of his game. The 3 frees into the wind on Saturday were things of beauty!

Was anyone able to figure out what happened in the first half...we won a free out near the sideline at the stand side, Cork slowed the ball up, Ref brought it forward, then Jack and a Cork defender were 'discussing' with the referee, and then the referee brought the free back to the original position. What was that all about?!

McPhillips is doing a good job but seems to run of out road at around the 50-55 minute mark. You'd have to credit McCarville too, getting 100% out of himself in this campaign. Woods probably a better option for FF outlet than Mohan.
Dylan Byrne and Louis Kelly have added big time to the options for GB also. Interesting to see a starting XV when more senior players are fit and available.

Bannigan's post match comments with Fergal Monaghan about McCaul were interesting. McCaul has played more than expected but has been very impressive at midfield. Even though he's only 19, he's already a better fielder than McCarville or McPhillips. The latter two have decent ball skills, but they lack that bit of ruthlessness and aggression that Mohan brings. I can see Mohan being first choice when fit. McBennett is a very accurate attacking threat but the more one v one aspect from the new rules is not suiting him. I know he scored in both of the first two games, but honestly the game was somewhat drifting around him rather than him influencing it. He' not as good a fielder or ball winner as others and lacks pace. There is a decent chance McCaul becoming a starter in some championship games this year. He's ready.

Will be interesting to what the team will be come championship. O'Connell will be back soon. Wilson, McAnespie,
and Mohan are all due back before the end of the league. Bannigan did say Dessie Ward is longer term injury , but in what context did he mean that - months, weeks ?

Any word on Ronan Boyle? I'd have thought a central figure in a Sigerson cup winning team would be getting plenty of game time? - no sign of him in the lineup for tomorrow again.

I wouldn't go as far as to call it a stadium its an average club ground fella but I would say about 20 minutes walk

Good win today that display in second half will keep the feet on the ground after great display in first half. No bad thing. Big one in two weeks said at start of this league if we got our heads right we'd be fine in this division as players are there. The winning feeling compared to last year has just about done that. Meath are flying. Live in the county and good buzz and a seriousness about them for first time in years. Navan be a good test of where monaghan are really at be a big crowd as paddys weekend. Whoever wins will more than likely go up with roscommon. Think both sides are in sam maguire now regardless which is really important also. Hopefully bar the long term injuries we will be at full strength.

Great first half display some of the best I've seen us play. Mccarville done well at midfield. Second half was some very dubious ref decisions I didn't think it was a penalty from what I saw. Building good momentum now.

Some thought this would be a difficult division? We didn't score for 15 minutes and still won by 6. Yawn. Roll on our trip to Croker

The referee helped swing the momentum in Louth's favour, some of the decision were baffling to say the least. Sam Mulroy kicked 1-12 from places balls. Monaghan scored 1-21 from play compared to Louth's who only kicked 9.
First half was up there with one of the best attacking displays Monaghan have ever produced. I think one wide, one of the post and one dropped short was the height of Monaghan inaccuracies in the first half.

Thank god Louth broke the 3v3 with 5 minutes to play, that was the death nail in the wee counties comeback.

Navan in two weeks is the big one. Win and we are back in Division 1, as I expect Roscommon to beat Cavan and Westmeath. Lose and we would be in Division 2 for another year.

I agree the ref baffled me at times I don't like blaming refs after a game but that was strange at times. If we beat meath we're up which won't be easy. Another year in division won't do us any harm either.

This has been so far a very good league for monaghan so far. A freshness to their football and a lot of meaningful game time to a new batch of players who are doing themself no harm. Division 2 has been a release valve our senior team that was badly needed. It is a winner takes all clash in navan in two weeks, not the end of the world if don't get promoted. Bannigan and co will be very happy.

I hope you had better luck with the parking than me.

I parked at Ashleigh Heights, which was to the right of the car park outside the ground.

When I came back to the car, some ****** had ran a key or a blade across the entire right had side of the car.

Did anyone else have this happen to their car or hear of more of this?
