Replying To 222:  "This has been so far a very good league for monaghan so far. A freshness to their football and a lot of meaningful game time to a new batch of players who are doing themself no harm. Division 2 has been a release valve our senior team that was badly needed. It is a winner takes all clash in navan in two weeks, not the end of the world if don't get promoted. Bannigan and co will be very happy."
I think its important that Monaghan go straight back up to Div 1 this year. I'd rather go up and down from Div 1 and Div 2 each year (Like Roscommon tend to) then dwell in Div 2 for years or even risk going to Div 3.
The first year in Div 2 is always the easiest to go back up from, as Roscommon/Armagh/Donegal/Tyrone all proved in the past. This is because you are one of the teams that got relegated the previous year, so only 1 other previous Div 1 team in competition. If you don't go back up in first year down, then you always have two very strong relegated teams to contend with thereafter.
Its looking like Tyrone and Derry might be relegated this year from Div 1 and so that's two very strong teams to overcome next year. No reason Monaghan can't beat Meath and Down in last two games and give us a day out in Corke Park before Championship starts.
