lol the big head...it wasn't too long ago for yous..no need for those sort of jibes and Beggan certainly wasn't the problem Monaghan certainly were poor. I said earlier monaghan were stuck between the old and the new and i still think thats the case. How Jones didn't start i don't know. The real problem was the energy as there was none..Really strange. Cavan's 6 backs were immense and the half back line in particular. Were not world beaters but by hell we had energy and went full tilt ponger (Cavan) - Posts: 547 - 07/04/2024 18:33:01 2536279 Link 0 |
Monaghan handed out a lesson in football stupidity and tactical naivety today. mhunicean_abu (Monaghan) - Posts: 1067 - 07/04/2024 18:36:53 2536285 Link 1 |

Agree. Better team won but at least it gives Monaghan a chance to regroup. No silverware again this season. Conor , a great footballer will probably retire at the end of the season. Wish Darren Hughes all the best.

Agree 1000% about McDonnell.. the criticism he got on here was nothing short of disgraceful.. complete lazy analysis to blame him for our league failings…he was at fault for maybe 2/3 of the goals in the league.. we conceded 11/12 from memory.. closer analysis would tell you that our defence is/has been very poor and he got very very little protection throughout the league.. that bite and toughness in defence is long gone… with Rory back we conceded 3-12 against an average div 2 team and they could have had another 2/3 goals.. so today has proved how poor we are at the back and how McDonnell was hung out to dry… Finally I hope vinny takes a long hard look in the mirror and doesn't blame injuries again as he has done consistently throughout the league… 90% of teams have injuries etc and Cavan were no different today… mick2007 (Monaghan) - Posts: 570 - 07/04/2024 19:35:19 2536327 Link 2 |

Tough to stomach that today a lot of chickens came home to roost. Thought it was actually a poor enough game which only came to life when Cavan got their first goal . Monaghan were too passive with the wind and played with v little energy. A two pt lead at half time wasnt enough. Cavan shut down our attacks easily when game in melting pot and hit us well on break. Our defending was poor a lot of lads look past it at this level and you could see that in the 50 50s. Jones and Hamill made a difference energy wise when they came on. Thought Beggan was v good today and did his best to try and drive monaghan on. A strange listless performance for a championship game reninded me of kildare last year. Difference was cavan took their goal chances today and we didnt get out of jail like we did last summer in tullamore. Unfortunately the scale of the rebuild looks big here. No quick fixes. Suprised vinny didnt start more of younger lads in first half and really go at cavan and maybe leave Jack or Mansy until later in game as both esp Jack were well held. Darren Hughes was a massive loss also when he went off injured and hope he is ok. He was one of our best players up to that point . Its a long road back and most sides in group stages will go to town on that defence. seanie08 (Monaghan) - Posts: 1880 - 07/04/2024 21:01:27 2536364 Link 0 |
Are the players going back to the clubs for a couple of weeks seeing as monaghan have no games for 6 or 7 weeks ? MONAGHAN1985 (Monaghan) - Posts: 88 - 07/04/2024 21:18:59 2536366 Link 1 |
I'm absolutely disgusted with the lack of knowledge that was showed from our management team today ,again we had great young lads on the bench and when they introduced the difference again was there ,Jack and mcmanus just doesn't work and garland has run out of chances, but it's the defence that's a laugh,, lavelle is not a defender and Corey should know from clontibret where his best position is ,Ryan wylie has served his county and needs to walk away,Ryan o,toole is only there cause of his winning goal last year ,he can't stay with anyone and is at sea every game ,Karl needs to walk away he has played his best and needs to hang them up,time for vinny to look elsewhere in the county and not be influenced that annaghmullan has all the players, but time to grow a pair and pick some youth from club teams on the up,and then his answer on tv was his injuries, every county has injuries, it was the team he picked, his tactics and then he said it could be for the better getting bet today, I sat in the stand today and thinking and talking to some supporters, it's div 3 we heading for,no pride in Jersey today.

Boys you're fooling yourselves with all this Beggans brilliant stuff. The top keepers can come out and play but Beggan has no legs to get back. Cost Monaghan today. Whipping boys for the latter groups.

Hard to know, I think after Mayo got beaten early in the c'ship by roscommon last year the players went back to their clubs for a while. Its a hard one to call, 6 weeks isn't all that long when you consider they'd only be with the clubs for maximum 3 weeks before regrouping to prepare for the all Ireland series. I fear things could get ugly for a while now. We do not have the conveyor belt that many of the top counties have and our old warriors who are still carrying the torch ( McManus, Karlo, Darren, McCarron etc ) are inevitably slowing down. We are still struggling to push on with youth and again and again these fellas are being asked to pull us out of the fire. A rebuild is going to have to take place and the sooner the people of Monaghan realise that, the better. It will likely get substantially worse before it gets better but such is the nature of a small county punching above weight with a small population. Vinny will no doubt blood some new talent over the coming year(s) and it will be interesting to see who steps up to the plate on the current squad and who will step up from the u20's etc. I was impressed with Jones and Hamill today. We may have to weather a storm BUT we are going to have to trust the process and stick by the team folks. monaghan12 (Monaghan) - Posts: 17 - 07/04/2024 22:00:31 2536382 Link 0 |
i think thats a bit of a smart alec comment fella , theres no such thing as in your words laughing boys of Ulster, Monaghan have always carried themselves well and won a few hard earned Ulsters along the way , yes Derry are on the crest of a wave right now and that is great to see , but look have a bit of respect and manners to all of those teams who train just as hard as yourselves , good man mind yourself

But why don't we have more players ready to push on? 2018/2019 ulster minor champs and in 21, went to an ulster final in 20s? Why can't we bring players through? Genuine question on that.

I think Monaghan need a good forwards coach. Stephen O Neill is Cavans forwards coach. Theyre a different animal now. Imagine a club in North Monaghan thought he wasn't fit to be their manager. We desperately need someone of his calibre to get the best out of our forwards and get more people with confidence to have a shot rather than back and cross pass

He made a couple of great saves. Scored from playing and frees,45. Lynch lopping him at the end had no difference to the result. The Derry keeper isn't an olympic sprinter either going back FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2872 - 07/04/2024 23:11:41 2536407 Link 1 |
Wouldn't pass much remarks to this nonsense, must be on something or should be on something. Derry would have Beggan or Morgan in a heartbeat.
