Misplaced passes, needless turnovers, poor touches, Junior standard defending. There's more to a game than a few good scores.

Is McHugh gone to Cavan with him? He will be a massive loss if so. Matthew (None) - Posts: 1088 - 12/08/2025 09:54:56 2631311 Link 1 |
This I read that he is expected to go also.

From Westmeath Indo: It has been speculated that McCabe may be joined by his assistant in Westmeath, Donegal All-Ireland winner Mark McHugh, son of Cavan's 1997 Ulster-winning manager Martin. Not a done deal by that but no smoke without fire. Meridian (Westmeath) - Posts: 688 - 12/08/2025 11:18:36 2631347 Link 0 |
I see the board have put out an advert for new minor football manager. Vital that we get a young ambitious management in with them as if anything, the last couple of weeks have shown the desperate need for management within our own county. Can't knock McCabe for taking the job with his native county but it's a situation we need to avoid in future and any potential minor management should have future ambitions that reflect our county's needs Iakecounty90 (Westmeath) - Posts: 26 - 12/08/2025 11:43:08 2631361 Link 0 |
What kind of chairman have we at all stating that the county board are in the dark on McCabe moving back to Cavan to manage his native County the day before the national press announced he is all but confirmed as the next Cavan manager. He didn't make any statement. He replied to a call from a journalist in Irish independent. What was he supposed to do. Lock McCabe in his basement? Good luck to McCabe, I heard the panel loved him. Personally I'd like a county man involved and one who will work to bring back a lot of our players who are traveling and not with the panel. I think that's very harsh on the Chairman. I think its quite possible that he was in the dark on it or else think it was all paper talk. Also, from a contract/finances point of view maybe that is what he was advised to say. Its easy to point fingers and state stuff on here but i'm sure there is a process that has to be followed. As for having a manager in place right away that is just ridiculous. The guy only got the Cavan job last night!! It took the likes of Dublin, Mayo 6 to 8 weeks to pick a new manager. Roscommon are 3 weeks without a manager. So why would Westmeath have one lined up already. Need to be a bit realistic here.

There are no physical contracts in the gaa. There are verbal agreements for sure but can't imagine they're worth much. I think it's a bit mad that the situation was allowed to go on. McCabe should have resigned before it got to this stage in my opinion , like Ger Brennan with Louth. Could Westmeath not have parted ways with McCabe before now? It was very clear when he allowed the nomination to go forward that we were an after thought. His position was untenable after that. And that's fine he's right to go to Cavan I couldn't blame him. Maybe I'm wrong but I'm sure there could have been an honest conversation between both parties and let Westmeath start planning for next year. If there's an internal candidate worth having I'd be all ears, if not Davy Burke, Kieran Donaghy, Tony McEntee would they be interested or even worth having I don't know ? Not sure if we have the finances or the ambition though for a big name. I'd be happy to go with Lar Wall, that's if he'd leave Jude's for us

I would recommend staying clear of Burke folks.

Would ye bring back Tom Cribbin please? Two Leinster final appearances in a row isn't bad going.

The whole thing is disappointing. We cant afford another prolonged search. Dessie stepped down this week last year and Mc Cabe wasnt appointed until mid October. We need to hit the ground running in Div 3. Would Andy Mc Entee be an option? Vinny Corey? Dara Brady from St Paul's is managing Castleknock. Chances are Luke will play hurling next year?
