Dessie Dolan didn't manage a single club team before he got the top job in Westmeath but I cant see Mangan going for it he is also linked for the Westmeath hurling vacancy. John Keane/Gary Dolan or Kenny McKinley if he wants it could be exciting appointments from within.

Whatever happens; I feel Mark McHugh is the key person here and we need to do everything we can to keep him. He is the key person on the management team and he would be a massive lose if he went. Matthew (None) - Posts: 1086 - 29/07/2025 15:45:07 2629047 Link 0 |
McHugh is bound to say he's 100% committed to the Westmeath job. He's part of McCabe's coaching ticket. He's not going to say otherwise until McCabe is offered Cavan job which seems certain. Coaches tend to go with the manager so retaining McHugh will be extremely unlikely. McCabe will want him in Cavan. Chatting to some of the players they feel McCabe is finished regardless of Cavan gig as he's clearly putting us second behind them. It's a dilemma for county board as Cavan could take 2-3 weeks to appt and that means we're later to trying to get a manager. I'd be tempted to finish McCabe's reign immediately and start search now. We can't be someone's second choice. He's lost the dressing room already Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 2303 - 29/07/2025 16:44:59 2629073 Link 1 |
Good win for milltownpass last night against maryland very entertaining game with good crowd inatendence lots of good scores" maryland not the force of old "Brandon kelly on fire for milltownpass scoring 3.7 milltownpass should easily get to knock out stages of intermediate Mooo (Westmeath) - Posts: 53 - 29/07/2025 18:24:59 2629091 Link 0 |
100% correct. Can't blame him for going to Cavan, home county and they're ahead of us. However, he's clearly focused on Cavan and we're now an afterthought. I think both parties should part ways now and let the search begin

is it fair to say a worrying weekend for Kinnegad. After two very successful league campaigns in both Division 1 and Division 3, I can't understand how they were so poor in the junior championship and suffered such a heavy defeat-especially against Lomans. Lomans were missing a lot of players through injury, which would've seriously weakened their junior side, especially if they had five lad making their senior debut. I just can't make sense of how Kinnegad ended up with two such heavy losses.

The county board have to approach martin mcCabe now, need clarification on why he allowed his name go forward, I do understand its his home county and if thats the job he wants, go for it, to manage his own county is probably his ambition so best of luck to him, but clarity is required and the fact that he has allegedly shown interest in cavan, probably means his days are up in westmeath, the next manager needs to see players in club championship. I'd love to see john Keane back involved, a few great nominations locally on this forum but why not reach for the absolute possible heights, Ger brennan would be brilliant, why not, he not the fav for dublin anymore. May not be possible, but westmeath is an attractive job with so many good young players at the minute. Upforthegame23 (Westmeath) - Posts: 149 - 30/07/2025 08:53:13 2629189 Link 0 |
How the tide turns. A few weeks ago you said the players held him in high regard and anyone saying he should go you scolded them. Now you can't get rid of him quick enough. As for being later trying to get a manager? We've often gone as far as county semi finals and finals and still not had senior managers appointed, when do we ever do things quickly in Westmeath?? Doubt we'll start now. Chops (Westmeath) - Posts: 848 - 30/07/2025 14:54:38 2629286 Link 0 |
At least try to read my posts and maybe re read them if necessary. It's hardly rocket science to understand that the fact he's accepted a nomination for the Cavan job, a nomination by the way by his own club, means he's very interested in managing his own county. Therefore he's no longer giving us priority. Players and most people realise that means he's a lame duck manager if he stayed with us. We shouldn't have to wait for Cavan to organise themselves as it impacts on us. I would have hoped he'd stay for a second and third year but that was before he clearly set his sights on another job.

Please point out the posts by others here who said McCabe should go? Otherwise stop making stuff up. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 2303 - 30/07/2025 15:06:29 2629293 Link 0 |
If Mr.McCabe does decide to take the Cavan job-which I really hope he does not-why not go for Shane Curran and Eoin Mooney.!!-Mooney is a very good coach and at lesst with Cake it would be entertaining.!!.Would they be a bad selection??? Chat to someone in Carlow about Cake. He didn't come out of that looking great, especially the fact Joe Murphy got a kick out of them once he went in.
