Replying To Claretandblue:  "We seem to be comparing keeper's kickouts with previous years when majority went short and were retained easily, under the new rules that's not possible, kickouts gave to go long and therefore it's a contest, That makes Conor McCormack's job far more difficult, Brian Guerin is injured, Eoghan McCabe is injured, we had Sam Mc midfield today and it's not his best position, Cavan, Cork and Monaghan had bigger, physically stronger players than us. Conor Mc has played 5-6 games as a keeper, he should be given time. I asked on this forum a few weeks ago who were the club keepers capable of playing inter county? Trevor Martin and Jason Daly have opted out."
On the goalkeeper, and i don't want to be critical of McCormack as he isn't one and he is doing what he can. If we are not going for a specialist goalkeeper should we not instead be out there looking for someone with a great kickout at least? The rest of the traditional goalkeeper traits don't really seem to matter.

What are structures?

Good point, an accurate kicker was in vogue recently but not sure if that's realistic now under new rules, impossible to ping it to a lad now 50 metres out as there's no space. A keeper who can launch it 60 metres off tee will create more options but again who's out there at club level? Stephen McNev in Kinnegad has a great kickout and short ones were not his forte.

McCormack is not short of distance its just that we dont have anyone out there to catch it.!!and when we do manage to our hands on the ball its turned over too easily but again I say we have to be patient with this young team-id imagine its a 2 or 3 year project

I would assume they are short - long term plans for developing players starting at U14 and ending at senior level where the player has access to S&C and nutrition guidance, a pathway for players who may be late developers, a database of players at each club who can be graded on their potential from those within the clubs. An incentive for the best possible coaches to get involved with said teams. Players on county panels getting gear, discounted prices to our senior county games.

That's a start and I'm.sure if I thought about it for more than five seconds I could go on.

Westmeath have been unlucky, probably could have managed the game a bit better on sunday but thats a lack of experience which they really dont have at the minute. Mccabe has unearthed some good players and will only get better.
The keeper experiment is still only 4 games in and conditions were dreadful, mccormack will be a threat going forward and kickouts much easier when the ground drys up. However worrying that noone has been added for cover, surely theres good club players that can play in goal that can play that type of role, theres not too many keepers in westmeath who are that comfortable on the ball and who have good kickouts. There are probably guys who have played underage or even in goals or in soccer that are worth a look in training. Was the 20s keeper Lynam from Josephs not involved at the start ?

Thats a very modest post for a Caulry person. I thought Caulry had the best players in the World, nevermind the County!!!

Kinnegad by 8 not a bit much didn't they struggle to beat a team last week who only came up from D2 last year in the league? Shamrocks D2 side nearly bet Caulry in the D2 league last year.

Teams are only getting up to speed with the rule changes. There will be an experimental approach to the League I'd imagine.

League has been a non avent now over a number of years-senior and u20 county players not envolved and a lot of clubs have players who wont be back until championship comes around-ideal training games for build up to championship.

Caulry missing half team and still could have won
