I don't think so; The Downs was written by quite a few people. I feel they'll have the confidence and morale to push through in the replay. Loman's might win, but it will likely be a very close contest.

Played poorly? They started great, dominated early spell of second half, had 9/10 performances from their full back, Sam Mc, John Heslin, others like Jack Geoghegan. Ronan O' Toole, Danny Mc and Eoghan Hogan were influential at times, had 2 wides in 60 minutes.

A lot of the Lomans players had off days. Danny Mc, Tooler, Flan, Hes drifted in and out of game, Regan and Foy kicked away ball and both taken off TJ never got going I feel Lomans underperformed thats just my opinion lakecounty90 (Westmeath) - Posts: 118 - 14/10/2024 11:31:24 2574754 Link 0 |
Agree with this, and it's why I think that tactically Lomans got it wrong but played to their best capabilities for the system they were playing. If they play that system the next day the Downs will win but I'm guessing Lomans will change things up. At one stage they had nobody inside to kick the ball into so it naturally enough it didn't suit their main kickers like O'Toole, Foy, Whelan and Regan. Dempsey inside as a main target was a big loss. Shows how good he is inside with the amount of ball he wins and the scores he picks off.

I agree, Dempsey is a huge player for St Lomans and that was shown yesterday, he has been MOTM in at least 2 county finals in the past. Hopefully he is back for the final as we want both sides at full strength for the neutral.

The Downs got it tactically spot on at the weekend and unlucky not to win maybe its a lost opportunity for them, they have the physicality and fitness/speed to match Lomans, its just Lomans bench is far superior. Peter foy was the worst i ever seen him play, surprised whelan didnt pick Loughlin up, Loughlin looks predicable and then opens up into space out of nowhere for that goal. The Downs will be unhappy with the goals they conceded was fairly sloppy. Enda Kelly had a good game got the majority right. PowellJohn3 (Westmeath) - Posts: 62 - 14/10/2024 12:11:16 2574771 Link 0 |
Superb senior final in the park yesterday and a great crowd as well to witness. Both sides will feel they should have won but will be delighted to get another shot at it-Drumm and Lynam for Downs and Heslin and Sam McCartan were stand out performers and that catch by Lynam right at the death was unbelievable but I fear like Garrycastle in 22 -The Downs have left this title behind against Lomans.Hopefully the replay is as good and the crowds turn up again-might be interesting to see the pricing for the replay. No one seemed to know what was going on after the final whistle with announcements for extra time and after 10-15 mins delay word was out that its a replay!!-a lot of grumpy punters shaking their heads on the way out. Any word on when the replay will be? Presume it has to be Saturday but that might mean the Junior 2 final in Cusack at 3.30pm has a different throw in time Darragh (Westmeath) - Posts: 310 - 14/10/2024 13:11:25 2574791 Link 0 |
Any update on Date and time for the replay? GAAHQ1 (Westmeath) - Posts: 9 - 14/10/2024 14:03:33 2574804 Link 0 |
Not sure if the time can be changed for the junior 2 final, I reckon the senior replay will be at 1pm or 1:15 to allow for extra time and penalties.

Loman's bench being vastly superior is losing its tag based on yesterday. TJ was quiet, they brought in Nathan Lally and Kelvin Reilly, a couple of their starters won't start replay if management feel that they have better replacements but that wasn't their management's belief yesterday, their junior's performance in semi final seems to have hindered younger players being used. Rory Sheahan could be an option as he could plug holes in their defensive line that were opened up too easily by The Downs. Lot of surprised supporters in The Downs that Matthew Cunningham was unused sub, Tom Tuite seems to have dropped down the pecking order, he was very good in 2022.

A good game with excellent scores, have the Downs missed their chance? Peter Foy was having a poor game, his reaction to Paddy Dowdall was poor on his behalf, he fully deserved to be taken off.. dec (None) - Posts: 287 - 14/10/2024 15:01:31 2574829 Link 0 |
That makes sense in fairness. All 4 finals in one weekend will be some watching

Meeting tonight to confirm but yes, the chatter after the match was Sat pm with the junior 2 getting an earlier start. BigSur (Westmeath) - Posts: 1172 - 14/10/2024 15:24:35 2574839 Link 0 |
While The Downs might feel they left this one behind, they can also be grateful the equaliser fell to a defender (who did the right thing) and not the likes of TJ who could have buried it. BigSur (Westmeath) - Posts: 1172 - 14/10/2024 15:36:13 2574847 Link 0 |
I didn't have the best view, but the point for The Downs that the referee and umpire's deliberated on looked wide from where I was, first glance was it curled in after it had gone wide high above the top of the post. Anyone have a better view from the stand on that one? WmeathWarrior (Westmeath) - Posts: 65 - 14/10/2024 16:12:07 2574859 Link 0 |
