Any word on new football manager? Regardless of your thoughts on Hearte, it is a high profile appointment for offaly. I think we need something similar to give us a bounce in div 2

Replying To A_Chairde:  "Id take Harte in a heartbeat. 34 or 35 years coaching county teams, 6 all Ireland titles between minor, u21 and senior. He has been around the block and is arguably the greatest football manager. Kelly has a similar role to Devlin in Offaly overseeing development squads, he turned down the Offaly senior job before because of work commitments so maybe he himself feels he needs support to combine all. I dont see how it would undermine him. Offaly have a problem with some of their best players not committing to the jersey. If this doesnt motivate them then nothing will. One thing Louth and Offaly both have is great leadership from the top in chairmen like Peter Fitzpatrick and Michael Duignan. Louth were in division 4 when Harte came and look where they are now, a new stadium in the pipeline too. Offaly have won u20 football and u21 hurling All Irelands in space of 4 years. We cant even bring through players to play senior but hey we missed nothing here move on ."
Devlin's role is nothing like Kelly's. Devlin is a full time paid coach, Kelly oversees development squads in a voluntary basis. The Louth stadium is a long way off after Fitzpatrick was called in by Croke Park over his funding sources.

Has anybody heard anything on our search for a new manager? Was told myself that Andy Moran is the favourite but that's pure rumour.

Because he went from being the main man to "joint- manager" with Harte. Do you honestly think that this will be a partnership and it won't just be Harte running the show. If they were doing this, then they should have just had the nerve to get rid of Kelly. I guarantee at least one of them will be gone in a year

Ok thanks for clarifying. The Louth stadium is back on track as far I know, theyre getting their house in order. We dont even have a centre of excellence . Miles behind the rest.

I see where your coming from. My thinking is that Kelly see's this as an opportunity to learn from one of the best. No better way then to work with the man.

Who will be the next Westmeath manager?

I heard from a source Micky Harte was interested and was contacted by our county board and was due to meet with them this week. but he went and took the Offaly job.

To be honest I cant blame him. Not much pressure on him there as Offaly are in bad place. A good league and run in the TC would be a successful yeah for them. Offaly might be miles behind us on the football field but they are miles ahead of us off the field. Faithful Fields is some set up. Its mad we don't have somewhere to train for our county teams. I heard Dessie had to ring around all last year looking for clubs to offer them their pitches. They trained once a week in Athlone IT but that was even hard to get and Athlone IT don't allow teams eat food in the college unless you eat their canteen food so Westmeath footballer had to get in their cars after their showers and drive to another clubhouse 5 mins away and have food after training. We don't even have a county gym for underage and senior footballer's. I know the footballers and hurlers use a local gym in Mullingar but I heard that is serious cost on the county every year.

Whatever manger comes in they have an awful hard job to do on and off the field!!!!

Not true as the county footballers trained alternately in Athlone IT, Coralstown Kinnegad and The Downs. It's certainly not ideal having no central base but by the looks of things we won't have one for another 3-5 years.

The footballers did ring around for pitches at times and trained on clubs second pitches or with poor lights at times too.
