Plus Dublin were also adept at employing the tactics as they saw fit too even though the pr would suggest they were this swashbuckling team- they were very good at getting men back behind the ball too and keeping ball, slowing the game down etc etc. This was often overlooked by mainstream media but it happened regularly. Persisting with a player who has never shot the lights out playing for the Dubs, shows the lack of quality we have in that position. Perhaps Madden can fill that role eventually but certainly not this year. I dont rate either of our current midfielders tbh. And that is the bottom line on where this team is now at. This result really puts it up to Dessie now. He inherited a great, albeit waning, squad. He's had a couple of years to refresh the personnel and stamp his style of play on things while also sizing up the opposition. It's arguably our biggest championship upset since Westmeath in Leinster 21 years ago. We were favourites that day but arguably underdogs in subsequent losses until the golden era from 2011. i see louth 4/5 meath 11/10 in one bookie operator. only thing Louth finished 6th in div 2 barely escaping relegation, plus huge difference playing in Inniskeen, one of the tighest pitches in ireland compared to croker. Croke park will be a massive difference , meath a younger fitter team who have revenge in thier sights from 6 weeks ago, some difference in louth looking for revenge from 15 years ago. all the pressure on Louth and hype will affect them i feel, Meath in bonus territorry with a much younger team. dickie10 (UK) - Posts: 822 - 28/04/2025 22:27:39 2605172 Link

Cleaned out in the middle and our defending was non existent. If Lahiff and POCB is the best we can muster - Howard then needs to go in there. I think also that Mayo shot themselves in the foot on at least one occasion. Remember the short lockout that went straight to a Dub and forced the a defender to gift a penalty and also bring his side down to 14 ? Still, like I said earlier, we probably are privileged to be able to say we lived through the greatest era of any team to grace Croke Park. My thinking also. I fancy Meath to win in Croker also. They have a bit about them this year, and seem to be able to put up big scores also. Menton back in the engine room is a game changer for them this season. Robbie is doing a great job, despite losing 2 coaches a few weeks ago. That back 6 with a couple of exceptions looked fragile even before throw in. I fully agree with you on that midfield duo. Miles off being competitive. Menton is 33 and lorded that midfield, after being out of the inter county scene for a while. Granted we have 5 players missing through injury but even still - it doesnt say a lot for our depth of quality. Ok, some are newbies and young but Meath had a very young team also, so we cant use that as an excuse. This sort of result has been coming for a while for Dublin… Their under age results for the last 6/7 years have been very poor.. I didn't expect such a poor performance on Sunday but a lot of those Dublin players on show wouldn't get near some of the other teams competing for Sam… Dublin have gone from being one of the top scoring team in the country to one of the lowest over night… I don't think the new rules are sitting too well with them.. When they are forced into kicking the ball out long they seem to struggle big time and this was always a problem even in their hay days when a Mayo or Kerry pushed up on them….
