Money Grabbing Gareth Brooks

Replying To wexico15:  "They changed the calendar to give club players more certainty of when and when not their playing games, the calendar hasn't been rushed, there's a 2 week gap between the league and championship instead of 6 that's the only major change from 2019 schedule. Anyway after your claim the football qualifiers have worked in the last decade it was obvious you can't be taken seriously.

On Gareth Brooks I've no interest and don't get the interest in him but I won't lose sleep over it, apparently his music isn't on YouTube or Spotify don't know if that makes a big difference in demand."
Take it ye don't like the qualifiers, only for them teams like your own would be getting 1 championship match per year be grateful for the qualifiers. More matches means more support.

GAA are cramming the Championship into a short period allowing no replays except for the All Ireland finals, I think that's a disgrace, (also don't see why they are going ahead with the mickey mouse pre season tournaments either)
of course it free up the cash cow of using Croke Park for 'country' music gigs like this drivel etc, the Grab All Association strikes again. I hope the residents object or at least get a good payoff if it's let go ahead.

I've never met anyone who gives a damn about him but all of a sudden he's Irelands most wanted musician.
I suppose if the last 18 months has taught us one thing is if something is promoted properly people will generally flock to it.
Think most of his stuff is pretty depressing tbh but I like the song "standing outside the fire".
Probably be in lockdown again when he arrives anyways so could all be for nowt.

Might look like we Yellowbellies are ganging up together on you, but in fairness....you might have missed a fairly big discussion here and across the entire GAA recently, where just about everybody agreed that the qualifier system as it's operated up to now isn't exactly great, and that change is needed.

Only obstacle is that there wasn't enough support for the actual change that was proposed.

Massive support across the entire GAA too for the split between inter-county season and club season, even though that involves the inter-county having to be condensed. If you're genuinely still holding out against that change, it suggests to me for one that you've no concern at all for the club players, who are still about 98% of the playing population.

Replying To Saynothing:  "I think it's a case of, get it over with. I know Croke Park has to make money but to bend over backwards for a man who huffed when he only got 2 concerts the last time is what bugs me. No replays, condensed season wasn't brought in for player welfare, more like have a period of time when there was no chance of it been affected by running over time. Good luck to whoever wants to go . I'm not a resident living beside Croke Park but you have to think about them."
Has he upped it to 5 concerts now I think, the residents won't like that.

The only reason the longer inter county season impacts on the vast majority of club players is if they have county boards who can't walk and chew gum at the same time.

There was one year there was a Dublin senior 2 hurling league final the day before New Years Eve. County seniors had been knocked out in July. There were three players from both panels on the county squad.

By giving up August and September the GAA is effectively surrendering ground to rival sports in terms of popular support through attendances and viewing figures. That is bad marketing apart from anything else.

Couldn't agree more, how did they do it for years with All Ireland's finals in September. Reason for player burnout is club players training at 5-6 in mornings, weights and whatever and then on Sunday not getting a kick. But as you say get games over with and then leave rest of year to other sports.

Were you living in a secluded cave the last 10 years?
Did you hear of the CPA?
The continued grumbling of Club players?
The Congress vote etc?

Just because something is passed by a vote does not mean that chap cannot have an opinion!

That's true. You're allowed an opinion. But when that opinion is very much in the minority, as shown by a vote, then there comes a time to stop grumbling about the result of that vote and just accept it.

Would be different if the vote had been 51-49 or something like that, but the real result was far from it.

The continued grumbling by both yourself and the Tyrone fella lead me to strongly believe that you're not actually too directly involved yourselves at either club or county level, and therefore don't fully understand all the issues.

I know I could be wrong. I was once accused on this forum of being "a hurler on the ditch" myself, when I've actually been involved at both club and county level for a good few years now. But that's what I believe right now anyway. Feel free to correct me if I am indeed wrong.

Replying To Onfor15:  "Lots of pretty senseless posts here.

Why would the residents object to a few big events in September. They are used to it by now.

How are the GAA money grabbing? The stadium would be empty if these concerts weren't on. The money made will help keep the show on the road.

Replays at intercounty level are a disaster for the club game. Great news for the vast majority of players that they are gone.

Some people are too stuck in the past."
Concerts cause much more disruption in comparison to big matches to be fair.

There will certainly be objections by residents to these concerts. Whether those objections are as successful as last time remains to be seen.

Everyone knew the number of votes it took to change things so why complain now. Onwards and upwards for the qualifiers. Now that's what I believe anyway.
