Should that be money grabbing Brooks or money grabbing GAA. ??? He can't get into Croke Park if he is not invited ? Bank balance at GAA has received a hammering lately so they need to build up the nest egg. Can't believe they not allowing replays in semi finals of championship games. Never an argument about paying to go to a replay. Do we now assume that replays are gone for good ???. The Meath Dublin epic 4 game's that's stuff of legends and folklore at this stage will never again be surpassed. Brooks hasn't taken over Croke Park, the GAA have allowed to him to play there. As for your 'Money Grabbing Gareth Brooks', he's a professional artist, and I'm sure the GAA will be getting there fair cut. Am not a Garth Brooks fan by any stretch of the imagination, but let's face it....under the new master fixtures calendar, Croke Park is only going to be used for championship action between mid-April and end of July any year. In the earlier part of year, will probably only be used for Dublin's "home" NFL games, despite how it's apparently actually a neutral venue since Dublin's "home" ground is Parnell Park....yadda yadda yadda :) So realistically, having such an asset stand empty for large parts of the year would make no sense whatsoever, and the sensible thing to do is to use it for other events such as concerts. Gareth Brooks is providing what many people want to see, don't see what he is possibly doing wrong. I'm not a Gareth Brooks fan but many are, it will be a great occasion for them. Croke park is the obvious venue for big capacity shows, it should be used when the demand is there. A concert like that (or for U2 or another act) will bring a lot jot to the people who go. A fair bit of the money raised will ultimately go back to promoting/ developing Gaelic games. In terms of complaints that these shows cause too much disruption in the area, I always find this completely bizarre, there has been a stadium there for nearly a century and a half, long before most of the houses (if there is old houses there from the time before the stadium was there they have likely been bought/ sold several times since the stadium was established), if you buy/ rent a house in the vicinity of a stadium then don't complain of inconveniences because the stadium is being used. bdbuddah (Meath) - Posts: 1337 - 25/11/2021 11:10:10 2390735 Link

Agree, I remember before a Meath game in Croke park and buying a burger off a guy who told me he lived in the area. It was around the time of the controversy of Brooks previously when he was suspossed to do 5 shows. The Garth Brooks thing is a side issue. Compressing the championship into 10/11 weeks is a disgrace. the biggest sporting events in Irish culture and it's almost as though they are a bit of an embarrassment to be gotten out of the way before Sky Super sundays and rugby friendlies take over again. And before anyone starts, making sure that the Junior Ds are not denied a place in the sun has nothing whatsoever to do with senior inter county. They changed the calendar to give club players more certainty of when and when not their playing games, the calendar hasn't been rushed, there's a 2 week gap between the league and championship instead of 6 that's the only major change from 2019 schedule. Anyway after your claim the football qualifiers have worked in the last decade it was obvious you can't be taken seriously. But that's nothing to do with Garth Brooks. "Yer man with the hat wants to play concerts in September" isn't one of the reasons why the condensed inter-county season was introduced to give more certainty on when club competitions could go ahead. Lots of pretty senseless posts here. Why would the residents object to a few big events in September. They are used to it by now. How are the GAA money grabbing? The stadium would be empty if these concerts weren't on. The money made will help keep the show on the road. Replays at intercounty level are a disaster for the club game. I know Croke Park has to make money but to bend over backwards for a man who huffed when he only got 2 concerts the last time is what bugs me. No replays, condensed season wasn't brought in for player welfare, more like have a period of time when there was no chance of it been affected by running over time.
