Senior championship is very hard to call this year An Tochar and Rathnew probably favourites. Tinehely will want to defend their crown and I can't imagine Blesso or Baltinglass will be too far away either. Both Dunlavin and Kiltegan will want to push on from their semi final appearances last year and will give any team in Wicklow a headache when they play them. I'm going to be awfully biased and Say Dunlavin for Miley Avondale for the intermediate crown And shillelagh/coolboy to win junior A Dunlavin4Miley (Wicklow) - Posts: 25 - 09/07/2025 17:26:43 2624684 Link 0 |
I agree with you, up to a point. Agreed, Dunlavin put Tochair in their place last year and I think Tochair might struggle in the early rounds with a team that is only getting back together after county commitments and by then it could be too late. Dunlavin will make it tough for whoever wants to win it. I don't know what to make of Tinahely, AGB or Eire Og. Rathnew can never be written off but I don't think they have the players for a sustained run. If I was a gambling man, I might have a little punt on Blesso. .

Great news that Oisin is staying on with us. I thought he would be leaving given other managerial openings around the country onwards and upwards now! stringfellohawk (Wicklow) - Posts: 139 - 10/07/2025 10:06:26 2624763 Link 0 |
McConville staying on for another two years. Dunlavin4Miley (Wicklow) - Posts: 25 - 10/07/2025 10:07:21 2624764 Link 0 |
I hear Oisin McConville has been reappointed for another 2 years. I think this is a great move for the county. I hope Frankie Dolan stays on board as coach and maybe it's time to get new selectors on board to freshen things up. kodak13 (Wicklow) - Posts: 90 - 10/07/2025 10:18:30 2624768 Link 0 |
Great news, in my opinion. But he needs to strengthen the squad. He needs more players who will break tackles and burst through to the heart of the D. Also, some kind of coaching incentives to take on long range kicking for points. Freethinker (Wicklow) - Posts: 1736 - 10/07/2025 10:41:47 2624771 Link 0 |
Surprising but great news, big commitment with the likes of Louth and Cavan on the market. FrankieJoe (Wicklow) - Posts: 102 - 10/07/2025 18:14:51 2624870 Link 0 |
I am pleasantly surprised by today's announcement. I'm pleased that the county board have opted to give Oisin two more years. It allows him and his management team to build on the foundations they have established with this young squad. There are a couple of challenges to be met by the management. I hope I'm wrong but I would expect Dean Healy to step away from the team in 2026. Again, I hope I'm wrong. Either way Oisin will need to identify someone who can play in this role in the next couple of years. He tried a number of different options this year during the league so it will be interesting to see what he does in this area in '26. I don't think he has found the right combination up front yet. There are a number of players who are playing in the forwards who are not prolific. Evidence this year demonstrates how important scoring is under the new rules. Our forwards create chances but converting those chances to scores has been poor this year. Equally closing out games when a result is required must improve if we are to be promoted and to go one step further in the Tailteann cup. I commend the county board for securing Oisin's services for another two years. Hopefully some new players can light up the club championship and be included in his plans in 2026.

Made it to the Bray v An Tochair game. Didn't really see any contenders for Miley on show. Tochair have a lot to learn and maybe too many of them are fashioned in the Ulster defensive mould. Bray were more direct and it almost worked for them. The Roundwood lads dont seem to have learned anything from last years lesson against Dunlavin. They were 8/9 up twice in the second half and almost succeeded in losing. I doubt if any team would fear playing them. Was interesting to see the Pats v Eire Og result. A little bird had told me that Pats were looking good. A few players back and a good mood in the camp. Freethinker (Wicklow) - Posts: 1736 - 11/07/2025 22:09:37 2625018 Link 0 |
I don't attend county conventions or anything like that so just wondering how much is spent or what is the cost for this management team annually? I would assume these costs are split out as part of finance review so be interesting to know Wonderingnow (Wicklow) - Posts: 1 - 11/07/2025 22:34:17 2625022 Link 0 |

Good win for St Pats they look like they will be thereabouts this year hard to see anyone handle Dean Healy in the ckub scene. Dunlavin with a comprehensive win over Kiltegan they could be in with a huge chance in what may be a wide open championship. Big names within the Dunlavin camp and the return of Cian O Sullivan could will make them hard beat this year. WestWicklow14 (Wicklow) - Posts: 10 - 12/07/2025 21:07:26 2625153 Link 1 |
Agb very good. Tinahely looked unfit and apart from Darcy were off game. Chris still to come back so I think we will be in with a shout. First game was enjoyable too. Carnew could have won that. going up later heavyheart19 (Wicklow) - Posts: 159 - 13/07/2025 09:35:10 2625214 Link 0 |
Thought kiltegan were quite poor against Dunlavin. Used Seánie Furlong very poorly. Lots for them to work on before the play Éire Og Dunlavin4Miley (Wicklow) - Posts: 25 - 13/07/2025 11:30:32 2625234 Link 0 |
Would have to disagree, I think we've plenty of running type players that can do this but seriously lacking scoring forwards. McGraynor and Kenny are not quality enough inside forwards to push the team on. Wing forwards like O'Brien not accurate enough either. The most accurate forwards in the club scene are all well over 30 unfortunately.

AGB, Pats, Rathnew and Dunlavin. Based on results after the first round, Miley looks to be heading to one of these. A bit of work to be done by others and there will be a few shocks along the way. Must be the most open championship in years. Freethinker (Wicklow) - Posts: 1736 - 13/07/2025 15:20:51 2625271 Link 0 |
There is a lot in what you say, but, prior to their being called onto the county squad, the 2 fees, Fogarty and JP Nolan were scoring for fun. They went through Jun A, Intermediate and up to their first year in the senior championship scoring prolifically. Then their indoctrination into this "possession" game and the flair seems to be gone, for county and club. Maybe it might have gone anyway. The thing about your inside forwards scoring is that you have to get the ball in to them.to give them a chance, you have to move the ball quickly. This new game with all the back and forward around the D, this patient buildup, all the backs have time to get back and cover. Then you end up with turnovers.

Is garden county sport gone. I thought it was great for coverage of the championship last year. The Wicklow GAA coverage is extremely poor. I see clubber are covering other counties. StrandedinWW (Wicklow) - Posts: 50 - 13/07/2025 16:52:36 2625283 Link 0 |
Didn't see the AT bray game, but it's appears from Your comments the possession game doesn't suit them. The flair has been beat out of them at county. I seen the teams on social media, they appear to be missing a few, to my knowledge. They have the forwards if they move quick. Their minors were in last two finals and very few on the team the other night. Where have they gone? Disappointing with blesso today, rathnew have been together all year. teams that are just coming back together following county ditties are serious disadvantage. Itll be interesting to see what teams are like in next games as they have a 3 week break StrandedinWW (Wicklow) - Posts: 50 - 13/07/2025 17:05:04 2625286 Link 0 |
They are still operating at local soccer level. They announced last year that they could no longer cover local GAA matches. I am only guessing but I'd say there was a copyright issue here. Somebody somewhere was losing out.
