A lot of times teams struggle at underage hence the amalgamation of so many clubs for underage. It's strange that John's are the opposite, good at underage and weak at senior. If John's were to fall to Div 4 there would be very little incentive for young lads coming through. They would be mixing with lads playing Div 1 and 2 football and it would be embarrassing for them to be in Div 4. A lot of clubs have second teams that are much better than John's. I saw John's play this year and it was disheartening to see them unfit, poor discipline with very little knowledge of either the old or new rules. However in the past they have had some fine players that played for club and county so you would hope that a bit of pride would kick in . In years gone by they provided a valuable outlet for a lot of kids that didn't have much else to do. I hope that the Co Board offer assistance eoinog (Sligo) - Posts: 2165 - 07/07/2025 15:28:24 2624172 Link 0 |
Tough result for us given Spillane made his debut. Most thought he was only available for championship but glad he is getting a chance to integrate earlier. It was a well below par performance for us but I rate Curry. Marren was always going to thrive with these rules especially if given good supply and Reilly was very good second half. The other championship group may not be a foregone conclusion if Curry and Harps bring their league form into championship. We need to improve and find more consistency. Johns doing well at underage so it would appear that they have went back to basics and are creating a conveyor of young talent with the hope it comes through at senior. No guarantees but focusing on developing young players has to be commended. MrUnderhill (Sligo) - Posts: 102 - 07/07/2025 17:00:40 2624208 Link 0 |
