I didn't get to the game and with no wifi or mobile data I had to listen to the coverage on Ocean. Very difficult to figure out a game when listening to Maloney.
I have always believed that we are still lacking one or two big mobile physical lads in the middle of the field. That seemed to raise its head again yesterday. It's a big problem. There were a few new lads brought in to the set up but they must not be be at the required standard as they didn't make the 26 man panel. Our record against Kildare over the years is quiet good so the team certainly have a chance to redeem themselves next week.

Not sure I'd blame the rules. The rules don't make you kick 15 wides, most of them in very scorable positions including a 20m or so free. The rules meant Devaney got caught twice (1 short and 1 delayed) which gave Offaly two points but that wasn't the winning or losing of it. I don't blame him for the loss either, he has been a great servant but it was clear on our own kickouts that damn all lads he was kicking too were capable of winning the possession. Offaly made great use of the tap and go but our lads didn't get many opportunities to use it which I suppose is a credit to Offaly's discipline.

To me it looked like a side lacking in experience when it was needed most particularly in the first 10 minutes of the second half, and by the 50th minute when we did make changes the game was over. But there's no doubt Cummins, Murphy, Carrabine would all have had a major impact in a game such as that and unfortunately the younger lads from the successful U20s still have a bit to go yet to catch up.

Keeping the team a top secret as well is a load of nonsense for supporters who travel and don't even know who the match day 26 are until ya buy the programme.

Maloney was Baloney. MacGowan drab enough too but needs someone better beside him.

Well that didn't go well. I said already that, on McEntee I'll trust for this season but that wasn't good.
Interesting to see Mickey Harte get a bounce out of Offaly straight away. I have said before we need a Davy Fitzgerald type to lift this bunch of talented ballers. I really do fear that a bad year this year sets us back to square one again. Was it just 3 points (2 kicks) in the second half.. Drastically poor with a wind behind us. I'll give him 3 more games and then I'll weigh it all up

Switching focus from county scene how are clubs getting set up. Has everyone got a manager yet? I'm assuming the spring league will be kept to allow for officials and players to get used to the new rules but I suppose nothing has been published fixtures wise yet.

Some good insight from the lads at the game and that should always carry more weight than radio listeners. We obviously created plenty. Given the calibre of players I am surprised we were so inaccurate. I don't see that happening too often.

In Markievicz, I'd expect us to take the game to Kildare and with intent, add in the pitch and our record there I can't help but think they are beatable. I don't think we are as poor as we showed against Offaly either but I don't think management prepare us well in the off season or as well as other counties. Maybe we should ask Luke Bree what Offaly did. I was glad to see Rossa come on, congrats to him making his senior debut.

For me and a few of ye have alluded to it, we need ball winners from kickouts, Lally and McLoughlin should be well able to win some but even if not we should be setting up to winning breaks. We do have to help the keeper too. In year 5 of a management the squad should be further ahead and more developed, and I said for years developing players with low ceilings will come back to haunt us because they won't push you on. Attitude and commitment can only bring you so far.

McLoughlin and Lally would want to win a bit more than last weekend from what I hear but I'm sure they'll be better this weekend. Were two of our best performers in the league last year.
Who are the players being developed "for years" with the low ceilings and who would you have developed in their place? Thanks in advance. The Bee. Over.

Give a guess;). There are probably 8 players minimum in the 26 that were named in the squad for Offaly I would consider low ceiling, as in Div4 standard, don't stand out for club and are not consistently playing to high level. Some are system players but even then I'd question their positive influence in game.

Not a good result and I will be hoping for a response this weekend. Sligonian/Mr Underhill etc etc are back at the negative vibes again. Sligonian has once again started bullying by naming certain players and asking why they are not in the 26 or even if they have committed. This is all the on line abuse we are frequently told about. I thought he might have learned his lesson for the way he treated a clubman of his own last year but he believes in his own little world that he is infallible.

8 players no less? Love if you'd name them but I'm sure you won't.
Who would you put in that squad that has made themselves available? Breheny maybe to return for the new rules? Does he want to? He has brought Ross Doherty right into the fold after Coolera exploits so he's close now.
Daire O'Boyle and Mikey Gordon are going travelling but because you know everything, I'm sure you already knew that, Ronan. Josh Flynn is injured again as far as I know.
Can you elaborate who we are talking about when we say the players that should and shouldn't be there. I'm pretty sure some of the ones that you think shouldn't, are the same ones you were calling for previous.

If ye get a chance its worth reading the report on the game in the Irish Examiner.

A few McEntee quotes- "we've learned nothing in 3 years" this about the bad starts,

"I would say at this stage that our ability to get promoted out of Division 3 is very little"

I think those comments to the media are very poor to hear from a manager after 1 game. Its too early to be this negative. If we can beat Kildare you are back in with a great chance. They are slow learners if they learn at all so no surprise that he has some self awareness around that.

Opinions are welcomed by me and everyone else here. I'd feel a lot different about certain things than most. But if you're going to say there is a bunch of these who are (to paraphrase) useless, you might as well say who rather thansaying, 'I told you so' when they lose. Put some substance to your opinions and I will absolutely respect anyones thoughts.

He is playing well for DCU. He got 5pts 2 from play in their qtr final win yesterday. I'm sure he is involved but they are probably managing his load at the minute. By putting Rossa in against Offaly it looks like they may be putting the u20s in earlier than previous years. I'd be having a look at him if I was McEntee given the amount of wides the last day.

I cannot confess to have watched any of the DCU games but the fact he is putting up scores from play at that level would seem to me that he's worth giving a shot to anyway. We are definitely lacking some firepower.

Also carrabines transfer to Australia is gone through so any hope anyone had of him togging for sligo this year is gone.
