Replying To Unusedsub:  "Two good run outs for both the footballers and hurlers over the weekend. Great to see new players getting the opportunity to represent the county. Really glad neither game was cancelled due to the weather. Here's hoping for a positive year ahead."
Isn't it great to see these pre season competitions back, especially to give young chaps the feel of the county jersey. The more the merrier.

Congrats on that, not that it matters and just for talk sake but I was in the mix in the top 5 until I left the County to settle further afield. I could give the usernames of two other posters who were there or there abouts but would it be fair and would admin agree."
Yes you were ... Apologies. You were up there as was a poster called Barrowsider
You had a lot more posts than me and all worth reading

No apologies needed Blackbog, you are up there with some of Carlow's great posters on the Hoganstand forum. Topics from posters here are always and only on gaelic games, hurling and football, albeit, parochial, local club and county etc. always worth reading.

Team picked for tomorrow night has a surprising 10 of the team who started last Saturday. I expected a more experimental team but a good few fellas in the subs who are newcomers and I thought might have been given a start tomorrow if just to prove themselves.

Harry Clarke gets a first start in goal and with Ben McCarron playing Sigorson Cup for UCD the sub goalkeeper named is Darragh Foley. With his soccer experience I often thought he would make a great county keeper especially with the new rules and potential for a keeper to move up the field. Be interesting to see if he gets a shot at it.

Choo choo named in full forward line. Hopefully he actually plays there tomorrow I think he could be very effective close to goal with his ability to win all kinds of ball and his sheer strength.

I think most of us here are posting many years. I don't post as much myself anymore.

I see Foley was starting for Waterford anyway good to see never seen him play hurling only football. Rest of the boys out next week looking forward to seeing them tog. College hurling is great to give there lads exposure

Good win for the footballers. Hulton back to his best and choo choo played excellent too. Always taking the sensible option which hasn't always been the case. Leix in the semi I think?

Good performance by our footballers tonight and great to get the win. After a below par 1st half showing we dominated the second half and really saw out the last few minutes really well. Colm Hulton and Wexford's Sean Nolan were the two best players on the pitch but also a good collective team performance for Carlow in wet conditions.

Some stats:

Carlows first win in 5 games.
Carlows first win over Wexford in 5 years.
1st O'byrne win in 6 years since Wicklow in 2020.
Carlows first clean sheet under Joe Murphy.
1st clean sheet v Wexford in 15 outings since 2008
1st inter county match in Tullow for 15 years.

Thoughts:

Wexford couldn't deal with Hulton who ran riot.
Conor Doyle looked shakey on frees off wet ground.
Wexford at times easily penetrated through middle.
Expected to see more subs used.
Referee made a couple of bizarre decisions.
Despite slow start did well to go in 2 pts down at HT.
Clinical 2nd half scoring 1-8 in 30 mins was superb.

Also, Interesting to see our opening national league oponants (Antrim) getting a 15 point trimming from Derry in the McKenna Cup tonight - hopefully an indication of their current condition. For me, even 1 point from our opening 2 league games will put us in a solid position for a promotion race. We have the edge on Tipperary, Longford will be tough, but we should pick up home wins v Waterford, London, and Leitrim.

Expecting to see plenty of squad rotation for Laois game which will be 3 games in 8 days.

Carlow played the long game with getting hulton to play his best. Bring Curran in, take a year out and come back flying

Yes nice win tonight without being that impressive. After first 15 I thought it was game over when we trailed 5 pts to 1 but after that we out played and out scored them 1-12 to 0-8 for a deserved win. Wexford full forward like was very strong but I thought our backs were very good and came them in check as well as could be expected as they were dangerous.

Semi final v Leix is in Rathvilly on Saturday. Great to see these games going around the county to different club grounds and also great to see tullow kids match at half time tonight and hopefully Rathvilly can organise similar for Saturday. Local kids seeing the county team playing in their own club ground is great and for them to play at half time is win win inspiring ye next generation hopefully.
