Replying To peiledoir20:  "Any word on their big transfer?"
I'm out of the loop on that one - who is the big money signing in question ?

Replying To Lockjaw:  "Oh right. Martin Shovlin could've said the same thing & won a few senior championships with Killybegs in the early 90s. But he didn't.

Sure everyone has some connection with some other club. The can of worms being opened springs to mind.

That's the last I'll say about it."
Correct

Easy for the big clubs to say that when your drafting in lads from Dublin, Tyrone, mayo , ballybofey etc when your successful.

Replying To NPadraigAbu:  "I think this might be St. Eunans year for no real reason other than my gut, although Naomh Conaill appear to be like the Dubs in that they never get tired of winning and don't fall off the wagon so I'll never rule them out.
Intermediate is an absolute minefield as you say, so many teams could win it but I think I would put my money on Malin. Operating at a good competitive level in division 1 and lost the final last year although intermediate seems to be a horrible championship to get out of and teams don't seem to do well in it consistently.
Junior I can't look past Naomh Padraig Muff, strong panel with good young players and experience at a higher level of division 2 this year, Naomh Bríd, Carndonagh and Convoy all in with a shout though."
It's now or never for this current batch we have - too many wasted opportunities and they will go down in memory as been bullied by glenties/fintown unless they win it this year.

The blue brigade are still favs tho but not lying major between them the last few years.

Replying To tickets:  "Thank god championship has started so we can talk about clubs now for a while, the main percentage of Gaa. Not to put down the county players but look a lot of them are missing the first 1/2 games of championship.

Took in 2 games at the weekend and both games that I went too were great. Ardara were close to mccools out they pulled away as expected. Dungloe had a good win as did Aodh ruadh.

First game - Eunans played a kilcar team -6/7 players and had a good win and I'd say will topple Glenties.

Second game- Four masters had a great win v Gweedore. First half masters started better and went 3 up, Gweedore panicked and went for goal on 2/3 times when point is on. Is it young players not taken correct option? Masters had same energy throughout the game and Gweedore missed a sitter by DOB first half could a changed game but masters going by taking Faulkner off the bench are dark horses.

Looking at GD, only had 19 players for the day. Where's this panel?"
Just for reference we were down 4/5 starters too , wasn't just kilcar.

Having said that they were simple dreadful and we were pretty good - lots to work on too with the finishing - we left 2-5 at least behind us.

Kilcar were very silly pushing up a few times on Sean and he bombed a few over the top which left a few overruns in on goal

Replying To SouthOfTheGap:  "Kealan Dunleavy definitely was a star performer at underage level, hopefully he can kick on to the next level. I recall him kicking a few incredible long range points.

I'd love to hear people's opinions on Four Masters. Can they put more big teams to the sword this summer? Could McCrea make the step up to a county panel. Senan Carr has already cut his teeth in the McKenna Cup, is there any possibility of him getting a run in the National League next spring?"
Depends what you mean by big teams ?

Can they rattle glenswilly , kilcar, Gweedore (done) , Mc Cumhails etc - yes they absolutely can but not sure how big most of these are at the minute.

Can they topple us or Glenties/Fintown - absolutely zero chance but to be fair the rest won't either.

The big 2 are so far ahead at the minute - I would be absolutely shocked if none won the championship….

Although if someone could do us a fav and knock out the blue brigade - that would be great !!

Replying To gunman:  "Dunleavy along with Johnie McGroddy,Kieran Tobin and Jamie Grant were the standout players from that team that lost to Tyrone in extra time in Celtic Park. They were around the senior setup last year but none of them made the cut this year for whatever reason."
Kieran Tobin was thrown off the county panel last year for playing a league game with his club having not kicked a ball all year. Madness.

There is a few lads in our camp who could easily make step up to county panel but been really selfish I wouldn't want any more involved as it burns momentum at club level having so many away.

Peter Mc Eniff, Kieran Tobin, Conor O D senior , Conor Morrison would/could easily add to county panel but 4 more on top of 5 already is too much from any club.

Replying To Jimsam12:  "Got to a few games at the weekend. What a result for four masters. Standard quite high in all the games player wise which is a u turn from 12 months ago."
There is nothing to loose in first round or 2 so teams have ago generally - when the fear of loosing out on progressing and the business end of the championship kicks in - I'd b surprised if it didn't revert to type.

The reality is that the favs and back to back champions will deploy a template that's very very good and successful but most importantly it's almost impossible to break it down and doesn't lead to open shoot outs.

Would agree yeah that Naomh Conaill and St Eunan's are quite a bit ahead of the rest of the county. this weekend's game will very much be a shadow boxing affair between them. Don't think either team will want to give too much away. I think McCumhaills, Four Masters and Glenswilly could be potentially very good in years to come with a lot of exciting youth coming through. I would call it a big 2 now instead of a big 4 as I think there will be upsets between the likes of them plus Kilcar and Gweedore. But I do believe that for the foreseeable future it is hard to see past either Glenties or St Eunans.

Replying To ThroughTheGap:  "I'm not saying that they don't deserve a break. But if we accept that they are always going to use the first 2 rounds of the championship to take holidays, honeymoons, rest, etc., are we then happy to accept that we will only see some county men play 2 or 3 times for their club?"
I don't know whether there was a general sense the club championship would start this weekend and that caught a few out. As it stands there was basically a four week break between donegal going out and club championship which seems reasonable to me. I would agree you want to see the county players play for their clubs more than 2/3 times and I would think county players would want that as well.

There surely should be a little more freedom in club to express themselves. Oisin farrah was a joy to watch last year and it was unfortunate he tweaked something so early against ardara. I was really looking forward to more of the same against ardara. Mccumhaills still though made light enough work of it thereafter and assuming farrah does get back they should do well.
Injuries will happen though it's a pity that some have worse luck than others. Eoghan ban has been curtailed quite a bit and conor o'donnell very unfortunate this year.

I wouldn't go to Glenties this weekend if was paid to. It will be an awful match and the result will have no impact on who wins the championship.

Probably be more handbags than football if last years group game was anything to go by, would be interesting to see how young Roarty would get on in that game against Eunans all the same if he is expected to make the jump to inter-county

Same old is correct. Still cannot spell Naomh Conaill. Ah the jealousy of being " bullied " by the current County Champions still haunts him.

Interesting to see how the bookies have things priced up for the senior championship. Eunans are odds on favourites with Boylesports!

Eunans 10/11
Naomh Conall 7/4
Kilcar 15/2
Gweedore 10/1
MacCumhalls and Glenswilly 14/1
FM 20/1
Balllyshannon 25

I think kilcar will be happy to be going in under the radar. Could it be a year for an outsider to win it? Plenty of talent in the MacCumhalls, Glenswilly and FM sides.

With the new website and Donegal Gaa TV I assumed I would be able to get to watch club championship games but so far has not been the case. We are so far behind with this it is crazy. A friend of mine was able to watch a Mayo Junior A first round championship game online but yet we are unable to watch Kilcar vs St.Eunans who are two of our best senior teams in the county come head to head.

One of the few benefits of lockdown was absolutely heaps of club championship matches being livestreamed (mostly for free). Surely we could bring in a service like a club championship pass or similar to stream even just the senior championship games

And just after I posted my previous comment I see that St. Michaels vs Ardara and St. Eunans vs Naomh Conaill are both being streamed this weekend. Better than nothing atleast

Ah I get that and only I'm a loyal supporter of my club I prob wouldn't travel either.

It will be yet another slug fest between the two evenly matched teams - cagey and niggly I'd say.

We have to bring something different this year as playing them at their own dour style of play doesn't work as they are the masters of it.

But it's highly u likely that something different will be on show this weekend with nothing on the line and most likely meet again in knockout later on.
