So if Longford win this evening, the League and Leader Cup have officially turned into pre-season games. Both Clonguish and Killoe missing several first teamers and Mullinalaghta down, probably the best defender in the county. Colmcille only one at full strength. Thats the thanks clubs get for supplying the county team with players.

Because it goes on the matches between the four teams level on points rather than the league as a whole.

If that is the case, then it should be Granard in the relegation play off. Killoe won 2 and lost 1, Carrick and Slashers won 1 drew 1 lost 1 and Granard won 1 and lost 2.

End of the year for the county boys today! Some good progress made with a very young inexperienced squad, the decision to bring on Dessie Reynolds when 15 points down and only recently coming back from weeks out I thought very strange! Why risk injuring a player when the game was long done!

I don't know if you're pulling me leg but if true, thays an absolute joke. Score difference in the league only comes into it if teams are level on points. So surely if we go into a new mini league of 4, the same should apply?!! The leagues just get stranger and stranger!!

This rule came down from croke park. It was used to sort out the championship groups in 2024. The bottom 2 teams should be in relegation not the bottom four. Rathcline got 2 points and Cashel got none everybody else got eight or better.

Dessie was super when he came in as he has been all year clearly he was fit to come on otherwise they wouldnt risk him goals killed us again this game

He's been the top performer this year and for years! I'm only saying what was the point on potentially re injuring him when the team was 12/15 points down. If he had to have re injured it, then it wud have been a complete disaster of a decision

For anyone struggling with the final league positions logic...

Killoe, Carrickedmond, Slashers & Granard all finished level on 10 points. First page of the league regulations states that where three or more teams finish on same points, the team which defeated each of the other teams on same points in the previous games in the competition, goes ahead of the others. That didn't apply here since nobody met that criteria. So the next criteria (3.iv) is score difference from the games in which only the teams teams tied on points have played each other. That puts them in final order of Killoe, Granard, Carrickedmond, Slashers.

This is not really new, and is all per official GAA rules as noted on page 1 of Longford's league regulations on the county site at https://longfordgaa.ie/rules-regulations/

It would be helpful to have competition structure for each of the 5 divisions defined beside the regulations so we could have seen the structure for the two ACFL Division 2 phases for example, but also to outline how many teams go up or down in each division this year and which cups are for what (that moves around too).

Why the need for a relegation playoffs series or round robin or whatever? It's a league by definition, and the table is what it is.

Why not demote the bottom two or bottom team if it's one up / one down and be done with it?

This is the Longford County Board you are talking about....nothing makes sense with them!!
The only thing is, there is no chance the teams in 7th, 8th and 9th place will be going down.
Cashel nailed on for that.
They are a poor Intermediate team, playing Senior League football.
If the county players were still on duty, you could say Rathcline would be in trouble, but no chance now with Oran Kenny back.

It was proposed by a club at the county board meeting at the start of the year where league formats were been finalised that the bottom 2 clubs in division 1 play a relegation playoff to decide relegation. Seen it documented in the minutes from the meeting.
Not one other club supported the proposal and opted instead for the crazy scenario where a team that has only lost 3 of their 9 league games has to be involved in a round robin relegation of 3 games involving the bottom 4 teams.
This was a change from last years leagues where at least there was semi finals. All the more mind boggling when it was evident Cashel were going to struggle.
Blame can only be placed on the clubs themselves who voted for this format and have a big say in the format of the leagues. Clubs should probably have a proper look at who they are sending in and maybe actually think about the relevant formats in advance of meetings...
But maybe clubs were happy enough to get 3 extra games where they will be guaranteed to have their county players, can be the only explanation of adopting the current format.
Where the blame can be placed on county board is the scheduling of games, some teams will now go up to 7 weeks without a game when the split season for the clubs has kicked in. Leader cup finalists will go 4 weeks. We have went from one extreme to the next in trying to get the league finalised before championship. When county players are playing none of the 9 rounds it should be much easier to build a master fixture list at the start of the year around timelines.

If he was fit why did he not he start. First touch of the ball kicked a 2 pointer, by far our best player all year.

I think Sloan's biggest downfall this year has been how slow he is to make changes, both Farrell and Carey made huge impacts off the bench against Clare, and Saturday we also had Dessie and James Moran in reserve yet despite been down by 15 points first sub only happened halfway through second half. Carey got 5 mins at the end and Moran brought on as 4th sub in stoppage time.

I've been trying to decipher Division 2 here for a while and although I have got a little bit closer to the finish, I am not there yet!
So what I gather is, after this second split, Division 2 table reverts back to a full league.
The current standings that I have at the minute is as follows:

Ardagh/ Moydow 7 14
Dromard 6 13
Mostrim 7 12
Sean Connollys 7 9
Grattan Og 6 8
Kenagh 7 7
Emmet OG White 5 6
Emmet Og Green 5 5
Ballymore 7 5

Ballymahon 7 1
Killashee 6 0

Going by the Master Fixture list, for relegation it looks like the bottom 4 will go into a third split group and play each other.....how many relegated? I do not know!
The Patsy Reilly semi-finals will be the top 4 but there does not seem to be a play off with 2 or 4 teams for the Michael Moran Cup and promotion....so whether the Patsy Reilly Cup has replaced the Michael Moran Cup as Division 2 winners, I have no answer to that.

Bottom 2 i believe are to be relegated from the playoff, which would be bloody ridiculous and a needless extra portion of games. League phase 1, League phase 2, Relegation round robin league, followed by a league phase Intermediate championship.

Michael Moran Cup is for whoever finishes top. There is no final, same as Skelly cup. So whoever finishes top of that combined table you have done, will win the Michael Moran Cup. Dromard just need a draw against Grattans in their last game to win it. If they lose and Ardagh Moydow beat Killoe White, then Ardagh Moydow win it.

Top 4 then play for Patsy Reilly Cup.

As things stand the table is this...

How can they declare a team as the winner of the league when they have not played all the teams in it?
The way the league was split twice, all teams will only play 8 games out of what should be 11!!
Now on paper, Dromard should walk the league, but who's to say that if they won it by a point, were 3 of their games handier than the team who came in second?!!
For talk sake, if Ardagh came second and didn't play Killashee, Ballymahon and Ballymore but Dromard did, how is that fair?
It just gets more puzzling the more I look at it!!!
