Completely agree with all the above but the big question is will young McNulty be allowed play with the 20s,he will obviously be the difference in winning and losing games. The senior management and county board will loose alot of core support if the same happens as last year. Looking forward to the few months.

From what I've heard it has been expressed to the u20 panel that those players on the senior panel will be made available for the Connacht u20 championship. With it being Round Robin this year that means they will have 4 games. The U20 Championship runs off as follows: Connacht u20 Championship 2024 Round 1: Wednesday 20th March Round 2: Wednesday 27th March Round 3: Wednesday 3rd April Round 4: Wednesday 10th April Round 5: Wednesday 17th April Final: Weekend 4/5th May *We will have a bye in one round of games Senior Fixtures 2024 Division 4 Round 6: Saturday 16th March - vs Laois Division 4 Round 7: Sunday 24th March - vs Tipperary Division 4 Final - 30/31st March Quarter Final: Sunday 7th April - vs Sligo Semi Final: Saturday 20th April - London/Galway vs Leitrim/Sligo Final: Sunday 5th May This will nearly mean everyone of our u20 championship games will be midweek in between two Senior games. I really hope Andy and co ensure that the u20's are at full strength but I don't see it happening to be honest after seeing the fixture plan. Interesting that they have changed the format. Think it helps weaker counties to play more games. Lookin forward to the competition. I've heard Jones is well got by players and brings lots of energy and intensity to training. He has 8/9 county medals and apparently changed the culture and mindset in his club Derrygonnelly. Last year Mayo had senior players that played on the U.20 team. Thankfully for us it completely backfired as they were cleaned in the game against us. You can't train and play with the seniors and then drop down seamlessly and play U.20 for the championship. I'm sure these weeks the Leitrim U.20 team are having challenge games. They need to have everyone there. No point in having a few of them away with the senior set up. They really have to be in one set up or the other. eoinog (Sligo) - Posts: 1960 - 14/02/2024 14:09:24 2526046 Link 0 |
I agree with you. I've always found when you drop down a level some times it can be more difficult. I always found when I dropped down to Junior A for the odd game, as difficult and maybe sometimes even more difficult than senior as you aren't surrounded by more talented team mates. You have to do a lot more yourself and can't rely on those around you as much. It can suit some player's depending on their style of play. I know that sounds odd but it's just from my own experience.

There is also a rule that prevents an u20 player playing an u20 championship game and a senior championship game within 7 days of each other. It doesn't apply to league games so they can play U20 game on the Wednesday and league game on the Sunday So I don't think Moran will release certain u20 players for the 3rd round of u20 championship which would see them miss the Connacht senior championship game against Sligo and also potentially a Connacht semi final on the 20th muscles (Sligo) - Posts: 460 - 14/02/2024 17:43:19 2526078 Link 0 |

Fair play to St. Mary's for using their initiative to par take in the Ulster league. It gives really good matches to players not involved with the county and younger lads on panels. They might even skip the Leitrim spring league or put out a second team in that competition. All teams will have their own way for preparing for the league which starts in may. Teams like St Mary's have the luxury of not having to peak until late August. They can get a strong base in now and go hard at it for the first few months then tailor the prep off before championship and build it up again. Only a few clubs can afford to that. For the vast majority of clubs the league is huge and you are trying to get promoted if you are in Div 3/2 or else you are trying to stay in Div 1/2. The better team you are the easier it is to prepare lugdrum (Leitrim) - Posts: 357 - 16/02/2024 14:20:18 2526359 Link 2 |

Seen it named there on twitter. Think it's the same team as started against London. Pearce Dolan named on the bench. No sign of Keith Beirne on panel, wonder if he will be available at all this year? Must win game tomorrow with 3 tough away matches to follow, Wexford generally give us lots of bother they are big and powerful around the middle third especially and they need the win just as much as we do. Best of luck to the lads. JimmyNail (Leitrim) - Posts: 247 - 17/02/2024 12:45:04 2526460 Link 1 |
I'm sure Coach Moran is busy writing up his dummy team for the programme as we speak.

It was worth checking in to read this. Brilliant contribution. joeman123 (Leitrim) - Posts: 509 - 17/02/2024 14:43:52 2526479 Link 1 |
Best wishes to the team and management today. Can't see anything other than a really close game and only 2 or 3 points max in it at the end. Leitrim's forwards will give Wexford plenty of it but on the flip side Wexford will cause Leitrim problems in defence. Could be a high scoring game. Win and it sets us up nicely to attack the 3 away games in a row. lugdrum (Leitrim) - Posts: 357 - 18/02/2024 10:38:21 2526608 Link 1 |
Best of luck to Leitrim today, a massive game which, if we win, will show us where we're really at in the quest for promotion. Square_B (Leitrim) - Posts: 1029 - 18/02/2024 14:02:59 2526641 Link 1 |

Well done on the win, and I've no doubt you'll win many more if Mr Dorrian is on the whistle.

The penalty was about the only decision he gave us all day. If ye had a free taker from the several kickable frees he gave then ye would have won it. For your second goal our forward (Ryan O'Rourke) was clearly having the jersey pulled off him to prevent him getting the ball yet the ref gave no free and Wexford went straight down and got the goal. Several times Wexford players clearly touched the ball on the ground and no free given. After the penalty Plunkett gave a Wexford player a fair shoulder and ref gave Wexford free. The throw ball call for Leitrim, what was that for??? These are just observations in my opinion, if we had lost I wouldn't blame the ref. I've always thought you shouldn't be putting yourself in a position to rely on refereeing decisions to win or lose a game. Look if Wexford kicked them frees they would have won. leitrim4sam (Leitrim) - Posts: 672 - 18/02/2024 16:46:24 2526705 Link 1 |
So pleased for our lads, we rarely get the rub of green so todays win must give the squad a major confidence boost going into the Carlow game. Despite fading badly against Laois they will want to regroup against us. It will be a tough ask but promotion is agonisingly close and hopefully we can drive on.Ryan 0'Rourke is flying so Carlow will have a problem deciding who they mark as Wexford focussed on Darragh who had a quiet game by his standards.Biggest game of the League for us.Good luck lads we are nearly there.
