I don't see anything wrong with it. What I find amusing Is the usual whingers on here trying to find fault with the setup before the first ball is kicked. We are a group of negative assholes constantly on this site finding fault with everything the management and players are doing. These group of players have have been working hard for months, including gym sessions since July. They did this without any expenses in the off season. Those that care are very proud of them. You might say what is wrong with the snide critical comment I referred to.? Basically it is implies the team lacks leadership. Does the stupid comment matter? Perhaps not but I worry that if players follow this forum they get a signal supporters are questioning their mettle and ability. I have looked at every other county page and I fail to find anywhere with as many totally negatively focussed contributors as this site. joeman123 (Leitrim) - Posts: 509 - 19/01/2024 16:03:38 2520996 Link 1 |

Yes it can be pretty negative on this forum alright but we haven't had much to be positive about since promotion to division 3, five years ago.

Isn't every inter county footballer not working hard for months? Isn't every inter county player not doing gym sessions since July? Isn't every inter county player working flat out to improve themselves and their team. Leitrim are nothing above and beyond the call of duty here. Look I think it's fairly obvious here now that joeman123 is a member of the county board or management set up. Yes- we (genuine supporters are all behind Leitrim) but yes - look we have been in division 4 for the last past 16 years (bar one year) since limerick beat us in killmallock to relegate us in 2008 (John mckeon scored a point after the ref blew for half time that would have kept us up!!!!!!) We are starved of success, we support the lads financially and vocally, we are always there for them, we hope for the best for them, we are the eternal optimists. But results have to back our enthusiasm and personal input up. The real answers lie in reform of the club championships - make them more competitive- relegate current senior clubs to intermediate, relegate current intermediate clubs to junior and see the whole standard improve after 5-10 years- but sure hey let the club delegates for each club will do what's best for them not what's best for our county team. I've said it before - the only county without a Connacht club title at any level is us. And then we expect our inter county team to compete when everyone else is playing at a higher club standard. That's where the real problem lies leitrim4sam (Leitrim) - Posts: 672 - 19/01/2024 19:58:22 2521033 Link 3 |
Leitrim Sam I totally agree with you regarding the club Structure, hopefully that will happen or has it being considered by CB yet. The same thing needs to happen at underage The level of coaching also needs to improve at club level. Lots to be done if success is to happen and remember every other county is upping their game My only criticism of a lot of the posts here is their focus on the constant harping about the team and management in the absence of context and practical suggestions for improvement. joeman123 (Leitrim) - Posts: 509 - 19/01/2024 21:46:38 2521044 Link 0 |
Wouldn't disagree. The most underrated man in Leitrim football. If only we had 15 of him along with his 2 brothers.

Div 4 Longford showed how it was done today by holding Dublin to a low score. That Dublin team would have beaten the Galway development team that beat and scored 2-18 against Leitrim. Gaa_lover (USA) - Posts: 3494 - 20/01/2024 20:47:44 2521191 Link 1 |
Any thoughts on Brigid's coming so close to an all Ireland after Mohill nearly beating them in the Hyde. It's been a common tale that the winners of Leitrim sfc in the last few years (ballinamore, Mary's and Mohill ) have been within 1 or 2 points of teams that have won Connacht and more. I believe that the top 4 clubs ( add fenagh to previous 3) are not that far away at all but outside this group manor are a team for the future but Leitrim gaels , aughawillian and getting worse. This again shows why the sfc needs to be an 8 team competition

Only one of those teams have won Connacht. That being St Brigids. A poor Tourlestrane team beat Carrick lat year and Mountbellew beat Ballinamore. Both teams lost their next game. No more then Gowna in Cavan, Mohil will be sick. However will surely give them encouragement if they win Leitrim again next year, drumalee11 (USA) - Posts: 329 - 22/01/2024 10:48:12 2521476 Link 0 |
I see Leitrim ladies played in Ballinamore yesterday in awful conditions. Is Ballinamore an option for the men's team if Pairc Sean is unplayable. Or is there some other back up plan does anyone know. meathbasedfan (Leitrim) - Posts: 129 - 22/01/2024 12:28:01 2521506 Link 0 |
It doesn't quite equate, but should be a good boost to Mohill confidence pre season. Ref SFC totally agree. The fact that Leitrim have more clubs considered Senior than Kerry beggars belief. Backheel (Leitrim) - Posts: 170 - 22/01/2024 13:21:51 2521527 Link 0 |
Should've, could've, would've. We hear this from too many Leitrim teams. The amount of people I've heard say this weekend "Jesus you never know what might Mohill have done if they beat St Brigids" (to be fair majority of those saying it didn't actually come from Mohill). They didn't. Leitrimforliam (Leitrim) - Posts: 326 - 22/01/2024 13:39:51 2521535 Link 0 |
Bekan, Mayo is our secondary ground.

Any word from the Leitrim camp for this weekend. Thighs seem very quiet which is a good thing I suppose. Means players are buying into things and keeping it in house. You never hear a peep out of the top counties. Big win needed on Sunday lugdrum (Leitrim) - Posts: 357 - 22/01/2024 19:55:55 2521628 Link 0 |
I agree with the should've , would've. Time and time again we lose by a few points and when the other team progresses then we regret it. However I do believe that the top 4 teams will have a say in Connacht soon, the gap is tightening a small bit in club football with good outside managers in all the top teams (Flynn, o hara , McCormack a and mickey Graham who has since gone). Why the gap is widening in inter county is because aside from them 4 teams the rest of the clubs are way behind when it comes to coaching and s and c …..

Totally agree. We can go one of two ways from here: 1. Reduce the number of teams in each championship forcing teams to improve themselves to progress and keep pace with the big clubs. Quality of player going through to inter county team improves by default. 2. Stay the same and the big 4 clubs will dominate our club scene. Some clubs can go through the motions and retain their championship status. leitrim4sam (Leitrim) - Posts: 672 - 23/01/2024 10:04:50 2521690 Link 0 |
I'll say it again, all of this proves is that there's too many clubs in Leitrim, and realistically not enough competition for places in clubs. There's roughly 3,500 men aged between 19-40... if one was to drill down into the figures outside the main towns it would probably make for grim reading. There's going to have to be amalgamations in rural areas if clubs are to survive. WIth that how do you keep lads in bigger clubs interested and motivated? Regional teams may have to be considered for championship where the best of junior / intermediate / 2nd & 3rd teams in an area (Perhaps Leitrim North / Leitrim South?) I get that it's one thing saying it all this should happen and another thing sussing out the practicalities of it all. Spending large amounts of money on senior management teams will also have to be a thing of the past. Can anyone honestly say we've progressed in the last 2 seasons? The truth is we haven't despite having a decent crop of players.

I also think the amount of senior teams need to be reduced even though it would go against my own clubs best interests. I think if the next person in line for the CB chairman job (he's nearly a shoe in already) gets his way we will have senior, intermediate, junior championship and then a regional and senior club championship as well. Similar to what they have in Kerry. I also think there is not enough games for young players to develop when they are finished underage football. I'd like to see how many games ex academy players in there first few years of adult football. In my opinion it's not enough. According to Ocean FM they have agreed to reduce the teams. I think its a good idea and would favour Sligo doing something similar, and perhaps where Leitrim leads Sligo will follow! There are nearly the same teams in each championship that are relegation battle experts and have only that to look forward to before the first round ever kicks off.
