Noel dunning seems to be clubs favorite for the job according to Ian Cooney. Is Dunning good enough and would he have the connections or name to bring in top class coaches or would he just stick with who he knows and worked with at u20s level. dave1988 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1302 - 24/07/2025 11:19:06 2627637 Link 0 |
He was one of the few that was nominated by clubs. Dunning had two Clare coaches involved with the U20s and local lads Frankie Dolan,David Neary also. Asking clubs to come up with nominations has been pretty fruitless, in 2022 only Pat Flanagan was nominated and the county board then looked elsewhere for candidates. Whoever comes in the strength of management team will be just as important if not more important and I wonder what money is available to assemble one. He had Evan Talty with him who I read was coaching Limerick footballers this year and is also after being recruited by St Brigids too.

That Talty lad was highly thought of from what I heard. Clubs have enough to be doing with 5 football Championships started or about to start plus hurling, LGFA and camogie. Nominating candidates for Co manager would be low on their list of priorities. I'd be concerned about finances available- a deficit last year, Club Rossie gone a.w.o.l, Hyde and CofE to be improved/developed ..... Ah Brigid's could possibly win an all Ireland this year and would be a bit of a set back for the new roscommon manager being without so many player for the start of division 1. Id do anything to see boyle get a county title and I hope O'Hara can do something this year with them but I only see pearces stopping Brigid's in roscommon and if they dont then I see Brigid's going very far. Charlie O'Carroll looks a decent player and I asked before what age is he and was he part of any roscommon underage team. I know he's bens brother but is he older or younger if anyone could let me know

You would be hoping that Club Rossie and County Board are courting sponsorship from as wide a pool of businesses as possible that have some links to Roscommon, there are big corporate multi nationals in Roscommon, Castlerea, Knockcroghery and Monksland. There are also a good number of thriving local businesses that have come to the fore in recent years. It has to be said a lot of local businesses seem to be on board but I can think of a few that I never see on any sponsorship. I would say if it was Donegal McGuinness would be knocking their doors down.

Think Charlie's younger than Ben. Also think he was involved with the Ireland U18 rugby setup. Plenty of footballers in Roscommon. Let's get the right Manager. This county would be on fire with colour and atmosphere if Roscommon were in the All Ireland final. 1980 is far too long ago. Many posting here were not even born when Roscommon last reached the All Ireland final.

Whatever happened to Club Rossie membership for individuals? There's also a huge diaspora out there to be tapped into. Apparently a major cog in the CR left in frustration last year !! Seanfan (Roscommon) - Posts: 32 - 26/07/2025 11:25:06 2628067 Link 0 |
Yea diaspora as well. Plenty of successful Roscommon business people abroad. Use every link and contact that you can. You can bet your life Mayo are tapping into it.

Charlie is younger than Ben. He just finished LC. Was not in Roscommon under 20s this year but still underage next year. Has been in brigids senior squad last year and this year.

Good few counties already have management in place for next year or are holding interviews. Anyone have any update on ourselves. If this goes on until mid September then it's a joke. Need to get moving now and give whoever gets it time to look a club championship dave1988 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1302 - 29/07/2025 11:18:46 2628948 Link 0 |
Another November appointment.... Apparently there's a 6 man (yes SIX persons) Committee looking into it. Maybe we should ask Sligo CB to do the job for us. Seanfan (Roscommon) - Posts: 32 - 29/07/2025 11:54:13 2628960 Link 0 |
If they made a quick appointment people would say they rushed it too, be ideal to have a manager in now yes but its not that easy, I'd rather they take their time and get it right. A thankless job as there are not many suitable candidates out there. TobeaRossie (Roscommon) - Posts: 167 - 29/07/2025 15:57:16 2629049 Link 0 |
Yea I don't mind if it takes a bit longer if we get a good management team together. Sligo gone homegrown now with McGee to bring in a bit of outside perspective and experience.

The County Board took their time last time out and still picked the wrong candidate so a delayed process doesn't always help.

Took their time because of a struggle to appoint anyone. Only Pat Flanagan was nominated by clubs and they looked elsewhere then. Bernard Flynn was on course to getting it then he opted out after a poor interview. It was left to Davy Burke or Brendan Hackett to choose from and we probably would be in the same situation right now regardless of which of those candidates was chosen.

To be fair to the Board they have the candidates lined up for interviews next week. This all takes time and if you've someone got by end of August it's not bad going. Ros2013 (Roscommon) - Posts: 550 - 29/07/2025 20:20:45 2629112 Link 0 |
