I don't think the likes of Diarmuid and Enda need to be playing these games certainly not starting them, I don't think Galway fielded any of their 2023 team in their semi final, I'd rather we did something similar."
As Davy said, he is working with a smaller panel this year. We don't have the numbers Mayo/Galway have to put out a 3rd choice team. Also I don't think these games will do Enda any harm. He looks like he needs the game time to get back up to speed. I wouldn't expect him to play more than 35mins Friday night though.

I am hoping we have a friendly lined on grass before the Tyrone game. I know Galway played a friendly over the weekend. Hoping Davey doesn't play a strong hand on Friday with the Galway league game coming up so soon

Rumor in Galway over the weekend is that Mark McHugh has joined up with Moycullen for the year ahead,
Any idea on why he left Roscommon setup?

We can only play with what is available. Was only 24 players togged on Saturday. Once the Brigids players and handful of injured players return (O'Rourke, R Daly, Fitzpatrick, Harney, Hussey return) our panel number will be up to the mid 30s

So we aren't Galway or Mayo who can look their our panel of 50 to 60 players and pick a team to play in the dome and pick another team on the same day for a challenge outdoors.

I thought it was the travelling but if he's with Moycullen that mustn't be the case!

Changes to senior championship for 2024.


As was the case in 2023, the 12 senior teams will be divided into three groups of four. The top two teams in each group will automatically qualify for the quarter-finals. One of the teams that finish second will join the group winners and be seeded for the last eight draw.

However, unlike last season - where St. Faithleach's, St. Dominic's and Tulsk finished third in their group and were subsequently eliminated - the third-placed teams in this year's group stages of the championship will have the opportunity to book their place in the knockout stages.

Two of the teams that finish third will play each other, while the third team will play the winners of the divisional championship to make up the seventh and eighth teams in the quarter-finals.

It is understood that as many as three teams could take part in this year's divisional championship with a Mid-South team likely to join sides from West and North Roscommon.

It is believed that players from Creggs, Fuerty, St. Aidan's, Kilbride and St. Joseph's are eager to be given the opportunity to test themselves in the senior football championship environment.

It's a bit of a dolly mixture alright but it is preseason so fellows been given a run out is a good thing. I'm a little perplex that Andrew Glennon is never given a bit of a run in the team. He's a real leader up front for Glaveys but gets very little time to settle in to the County team.
I know we're not short of forwards but I think we're missing out on match winner.

Match live on TG4 tonight. Throw-in 7.30pm.
Hopefully TG4 can some of the free to air sports events announced by the Minister for Sports this week as they deserve it. On a low budget they provide a great service.

Going well in the first half against Galway's third team(1-14 to 0-6) having lost a man to a black card. Some lovely foot passing particularly by Diarmuid Murtagh. Can't complain with 10 different scorers in the first half. Cathal Heneghan looks a class act. Great to have him back and going well. Several players looking like they have bulked up a bit and our shooting has been very accurate. One concern for me is that we are loosing too many of our long kickouts.
Several of our younger players look impressive. I would think Davy would be happy enough so far. Expected more from Galway.

A lot of left footed players around the Roscommon panel. Can't read much into tonight but Declan Kenny looks a nice footballer. Patrick Gavin also impressed. Andrew Glennon can offer something different up front. All roads lead to Omagh Sunday week. Minus of course our All star and our All Ireland club finalists .

Two players that stood out Mc Cormack and Heneghan and will be starters next week. Fitness levels over campaign looks good but we won't know till they hit the grass. Best of luck to Brigids. Its a free rein against a team who are hyped up. They have physical and well conditioned players but if Brigids are smart and avoid physical conformation then they have technical better players to win this.

The expected comfortable win against a Galway development team. 2-25 scored, 16 different scorers and all 26 players togged got a run out.

A and B challenge would have been more useful than that contest tonight but we only have the 26 currently available so couldn't do that and with Enda Smith suspended for next weekend we'll have to tog with 25 v Tyrone unless a few of the injured players return.

Throughout the three FBD games I thought the 5 debut lads Luke Glennon, Caelim Keogh, Senan Lambe, Jack Duggan, Declan Kenny all showed well. Evan Flynn, Niall Higgins back on the panel this year gave a good account of themselves also.

Cathal Heneghan back after a serious injury and moving well is probably the biggest positive to take out of the FBD.


Best of luck to Brigids on Sunday in the All Ireland final. In a lovely position with every pundit and Journalist tipping Glen to win, Brigids bring their A game to this final they'll give themselves every chance of pulling off an upset.

Well done to Roscommon, a win is a win even in these pre season cups it's all good for the future, just a question cause I have never been in the place but it must be a weird place to play football in that dome? I know it's great to out of the weather though.
Good luck to St,Bridgids but I think Glen will win it.

Better not get in to Omagh too early or one could be handed the no 26 Jersey.
Too handy last night but I suppose it was 3 useful workouts for the lads and a chance for the new kids to play alongside the older guard.
Be interesting to see which of them make the starting 15 or the match day 20.

Any resemblance between those 3 workouts and Omagh is purely coincidental as it will be a whole different world.

Our development lads were by in large very disappointing last night against a strong Roscommon line up. I didn't expect our development lads today to win but I felt they capitulated far too easily - still, they're young and learning. Good luck in Omagh and best of luck to Brigids and we'll see ye in the Hyde for hopefully a good old tussle with ye on 4th Feb.

Wishing St.Brigids the best tomorrow. After what happened last year in the final all sympathy went to Glen so everyone is really hoping they win this time. Sympathy won't win games so it will be a close call. Nice if the title came locally

Good luck to Brigids tomorrow. Glen are impressive and a lot of talk about them that this is their time…no such thing exists and I've seen it with my own county. Hopefully there will be two all Ireland cups crossing the Shannon Sunday evening.
