Replying To winatallcost:  "Galway or Donegal. Galway good forwards but new goalkeeper and leaky defence plus a few knocks. Match Donegal energy (they will have to go to the well again) and should be able for them from football standpoint. Donegal just try and outrun teams but may not be good enough to win an All-Ireland. You obviously want to play Meath?"
New goalkeeper is doing fine and saved Galway at times today and the new rules favour forwards and high scoring games.Isnt that what they were brought in for?

Replying To Fox.1n.7he.b0x:  "A win is a win, as i said last week we need to put Gleeson back in goals, Conor Fla is just not up to it and nearly cost us the game, hopefully lesson learnt now, on the plus side a better all round performance some great scores, they cut us opened easy at times but i think that will happen now in the modern game, hopefully Shane will be ok and maybe Damo might be good for 10/15 mins,"
Hold on he made 3 fine saves so catch yourself on.If Connor Gleeson gets back and he may do thats fine but you support whoever is there. You give them credit for the things they do right. He didn't cost the game and if you listen to Padraig Joyce being interviewed after game he praised him for composing himself to give 3 lickouts at the end for scores so please stop the negativity. Its getting boring.

He also made 3 fine saves as well. The wind was a huge factor which PJ acknowledged in his interview afterwards. He also acknowledged that Falherty had given 2 or 3 kickouts at the end to help get scores but dont let facts get in your way.

Great to get the win today by my god they don't make it easy. Moments of brilliance mixed with moments of madness. Start of the second half when you want to keep it tight and not allow Down to gather momentum early on and we hand them such easy opportunities for 2 pointers to cut the lead straight away. Kickouts were an absolute shambles in the second half. We should have had the game wrapped up and then we got opened up for such soft goals to put ourselves under all sorts of pressure. Conceding scorelines like that wont allow for progression past the quarters.

Sounds like Walsh's shoulder isn't going to be right for the rest of the year if he plays. A nasty injury according to Joyce. Here we go again with injuries, and not taking injured players off.

Your back again, what about all the goals he did let in the first one he showed him where to put it and another one he came flapping out of his goal into no man's land madness, he was going to be taken off that's how bad he was, for long enough people here wanted Gleesons to be dropped saying flaherty was the best keeper in the county now we know he's not, as fair as the saves my 3 year old would have saved them ,

You are really something else. That is totally rubbish and you know it.Couldnt have done a bit about the goals that went in.You definitely are the most negative person on this forum.

You are getting really personal about Conor Flaherty. If Connor Gleeson does play next week and he may I will support him no matter what. You need to stop the personal stuff.

I don't like all his gestures the other team can see where is signalling too.

He did hit a couple of nice ones towards end but there was a total malfunction mid 2nd half.

His position was too far over for first goal and had his arm out pointing too when he should have been getting set for the strike.

Now we're into CP hopefully games will stop been affected by wind as much.

I thought Darcy got exposed a bit when ran at but was immense for kickouts.

Subs were massive but DOF and Daly were both poor losing their men for 2nd and 3rd goal

Conor Flaherty is the best goalkeeper we have and will start every game for the rest of the season.

I'd say Walsh will be fine. Joyce couldn't know yet how it is.

I very much doubt that. He's young and athletic. He was dominant.
Surely O Flaherty has earned his place by now.

Did he say Comer wouldn't tog? I thought last week it was a maybe.
Obviously I'm only going off what Joyce says. He's been very open about injuries and performance over the years. Maybe too honest. Walsh looked in a lot of pain and another bang on it next weekend will take him off the pitch.

How am I getting personal, it's my opinion and that is what this platform is for,But it wasn't personal when it was someone else, my point here is that everyone has wished for him to be in goal now he is and he doesn't cut the mustard, I won't mention it again, the problem now if Gleeson does go back in goals there is even more pressure back on him again, all I want like everyone is for Galway to win an all Ireland,

Watched it again. If I had to find fault with this team it would be the usual complaint, since I started watching Galway play on the '70s, of complacency. Took the foot off the pedal for the third quarter and let Down back into it. Not to diminish their performance; they played out of their skins and made full advantage of playing at home. We led from the second quarter on and kept a good margin between us throughout. I will disagree with SmallFrank here (a rare occurrence I can assure you) and say that their goalie as opposed to our wayward kicking, kept them it. The stats don't lie; this is a Galway team that knows how to score goals. Their goalie was man of the match for them today.

So, all in all, I thought it was a decent performance, and any away win (especially against an Ulster team) is not to be dismissed lightly. Would be concerned about their inclination to play in 3rd gear when they should be on 5th, including their slow starts. This team is shaping up; will be curious to see who they draw.

And personally speaking, the consistency and dependability of Fla in goals is a welcome change. Fair play to him and tomJoycw who showed great loyalty to a man who was clearly doing his best, but change was needed.

Was a big battle yesterday. Delighted to get the win.We have a worrying habit of fading in games and letting teams get a run on us though.
We really need to tighten up defensively.
Croke Park will expose defensive looseness even more.
We kicked some great scores all the same.
We've been extremely poor on our own kickout - Down killed us on breaking ball yesterday.
I don't like to suggest dropping lads - but I do think Gleeson needs to come back in the next day purely for the length of his kickout.

Maybe that's why he considered bringing Gleeson on.
