Replying To largeball:  "Jarlaths were very poor yesterday. Negative and lacked ideas, poorly coached. One Connacht title in over a decade not good enough with the talent available. Seems to be problems with coaching in the school."
Nothing to do with coaching .. but possibly a reality check needed in general . Tradition counts for nothing in these times . The school seems still to be hell bent on making it all about Gaelic football, this resonates with young lads and puts huge pressure on them in 5th and 6th year.. trying to live up to glory years! I mean ffs it's time a step back happened and make it enjoyable again..
I know one young player who has been sick with nerves and flu bugs since early December, he is a leaving cert student his whole life has been about football recently.

Is Coner injured or just being rested?

Attempting to win a Division 1 game with no forwards is an interesting strategy. O'Curraoin the only one in the 10-15 that is anywhere close to a finisher.

Any confirmation on Cooke's availability for the year?

No official word but I don't think he's been in any squad yet either for challenge games or for Sunday. So not looking good for his availability. I presume someone will ask PJ on Saturday.

Very interested to see how Sam O'Neill goes. Very highly regarded by all accounts.

Also COC is a great finisher. Could be a big tear for him. Very talented footballer. Very disappointed he didn't push on last year. He should have been a natural replacement for Rob F in the final. He was hit and miss all year and after the Sligo debacle I think he lost a bit of trust and didn't see much game time after it.

He didn't even start versus Sligo. Hard to know exactly what's going on behind the scenes but he seemed very harshly treated last year, especially given the sketchy performances of some of those brought in ahead of him.

He reminds me of Finnerty from 2019-2022 when it took so long for them to actually trust him as a starter. Like Finnerty the lad simply gets on the scoreboard and that's something Galway are sorely missing. Top class free taking option also

Can someone explain why, with all the focus on player welfare and rules preveinting u20s playing senior games close together, why are lads being asked/allowed to play sigerson midweek and nfl at weekend?

He's a very accurate kicker, when he can make a bit of space for himself. He had some issues last year winning balls kicked into him. When he came on in the Derry game last year, he had a ball played down the line and was a few yards ahead of his man, but got beaten to the ball. He's been working hard on his speed and making himself a bit more mobile. Things didn't really happen for him for MB in last year's intermediate championship either.
A very talented forward though, and a real scoring option for us if he can develop a bit more.

It's such a shame in my opinion that Rory Cunningham no longer on Galway squad he is just of type of inside forward needed I think he 3rd top scorer from play intermediate last year in a team that got beaten in quarter final in one game last year v Monaghan he scored 1-03 from play and probably helped keep Galway in division 1 otherwise galway might be playing Cavan today , , there is a player starting in forwards for Galway today who in 27 matches league and championship has scored 5 points in total ,,, be interesting to see how many of the Galway July supporters turn up 2 day not 30 thousand anyway ,,,,,,

You're very negative. You rarely ever say anything positive about Galway football it's all doom and gloom

Disappointed he is gone as well, he is a a very tidy inside forward and can finish. He might have decided to step away himself as he didn't get much game time

Nice win for Galway after a slow start. Lots of tough matches ahead so it's nice to start off with a win. Hon Galway!

That's it. A nice win and let's face it, not easy for players to show so positively after the AI disappointment. I'll admit, I overly criticised the AI performance, and accept my comments were out of order. I have an inkling the players will want to do it this year, and I'd love to see "Scan" lift it in July. He's basically Trump on steroids!

Good recovery after a poor first 20 minutes today. Nice to get the first two points of the league tucked away, early days with the new rules but overall felt like a better game to watch in person compared to most of the fare a year ago. We lapsed back into our super cautious attack play a bit too much, hoping we play more direct as the year progresses.

Pearse stadium looks to be even more of a game of two halves venue than before with the two point arc combining with the wind factor!
