Congrats to corofin how they keep doing it is unreal, but to be fair when you have lads who care playing for their parish and not any outsiders who could wake up on Monday morning and would it really bother them that they lost, also the so called big coaching names brought in didn't offer a whole pile with the team they have on paper they should be much better, I would say the club is in a bad place, maybe i am wrong only time will tell there, Fox.1n.7he.b0x (Galway) - Posts: 134 - 29/10/2024 14:46:03 2577467 Link 0 |
I only meant he is from Corofin, dont think he has coached them either, And yes unless he has a big turnaround in his thinking/philosophy he wont be getting that job.

A big congrats to our 5 All Stars and hard luck to the lads that didn't make it on this occasion. Great to see plenty of maroon and white across the field. And to all our recent, current and future All Stars - let's go and grab Sam in 25. It's wide open now and there for anyone. We've got the talent to do it. togoutlads (Galway) - Posts: 970 - 31/10/2024 16:50:36 2577754 Link 0 |
The bypass could be a disaster for them so. I'd be lumping on Corofin for 25 smallfrank (Galway) - Posts: 442 - 31/10/2024 18:23:21 2577767 Link 0 |
Congrats to our 5 all stars. I think it was a fair representation for us. Mayonman (Galway) - Posts: 1889 - 31/10/2024 20:46:38 2577778 Link 1 |
Would love to see Conroy get it. I do think Finnerty was lucky to win all star now he was obv very unlucky to have got injured in final & we may have won it if he did not for his free taking alone. Aramgh feel aggrieved getting six when Dublin won it last year they got 8 or 9.

Has any squad ever had 10 different all-stars in just a 3 season span, without winning the allireland? Tis doubtful? Mayo maybe, at some point 2011-2017? Pope_Benedict (Galway) - Posts: 3868 - 01/11/2024 12:49:26 2577824 Link 2 |
I think that four of the five Galway All Stars were very well deserved and a couple of other players were a bit unlucky. I agree with you about Rob Finnerty. His frees got him the All Star. Would not swap Diarmuid Murtagh as an all-round footballer for him any day. Apart from one off-day against Armagh, Diarmuid had an outstanding year, and I feel he was a little unlucky not to get one. Maybe I am a little bias? John Maher was footballer of the year for me. Powerful, huge workmate, can take his score, makes the right decisions and makes other players look good. Great team player. letsgetgoing (Roscommon) - Posts: 629 - 01/11/2024 12:54:34 2577825 Link 1 |
I thought Finnerty was arguably the most consistent Galway forward this year even though he didn't have any outstanding performance like Comer against Mayo or McDaid against Dublin. He was just good in all the games. Even as a playmaker linking play and creating space in games when he didn't score from play like against Dublin. That said I'm surprised he got the all-star after basically missing the entire final. Marooned (Galway) - Posts: 2290 - 01/11/2024 13:38:50 2577829 Link 1 |
Rob Finnerty's importance to Galway was proven in the All Ireland final. Had he been fit to play Galway most likely would have won that match. Both Diarmuid Murtagh and Sam Mulroy would have been very close to an All Star too.

Has any group of supporters ever gone on so much about an All Ireland they didn't win?

If Finnerty was left on even injured he would have scored about 3 more frees at the very least

I'd say almost certainly. I'm sure Mayo supporters have plenty discussion about some of the All-Ireland finals they narrowly lost. It's natural when you have that feeling of what could have been. Good to see another poster from Donegal whose first post is in the Galway forum. We're honoured. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2187 - 01/11/2024 15:10:16 2577847 Link 2 |
Absolutely delighted for Paul Conroy, so well deserved. A proud night for a great Galway man and his family. Tremendous achievement, particularly in light of the terrible injuries he's rebounded from. togoutlads (Galway) - Posts: 970 - 01/11/2024 20:56:49 2577875 Link 5 |
Handy enough win for Oranmore in the Connacht minor final in Bekan. A late goal from Glencar Manorhamilton made the result look closer. Very big team with Michael Leahy and Alan Burke in midfield. Niall De Paor and Barry Keating up top are two classy forwards. Looking at the way the county final went and tonight, you'd expect Claregalway probably would have won Connacht as well. Very good management team with Sean Og De Paor and Tim Rabbitt. galway19 (Galway) - Posts: 790 - 01/11/2024 21:28:59 2577882 Link 0 |
Surely not a once proud, but a current and. perpetual proud county. Gary Sice never won an all star, but he embodies all that is traditional in Galway football tradition. At times we are our own worst enemy. Give CB a chance.

100% agree with you. And congratulations to the rest of the Galway ASs, especially Johnny Maher. I love his style and realization of how the game should be played.

How impressive were the Galway players last night, modest and articulate during their interviews. Someone said earlier we need a change in the captaincy. Dylan McHugh looks to be the natural choice. It was great to hear Paul Conroy has committed to next year. Rob Finnerty was very honest and you'd feel for him with the injury he got very early in the final. Maybe some method in the madness/'derogatory replies'? Michaels didn't get it done yet, and Oranmore only went down on a whopping 0-19 to 0-7 scoreline, a week ago.
