As shocking as spending €2.8m on a piece of land, doing nothing with it and selling it at a massive loss over 10 years later, the whole deal costing Galway over €3m with interest payments included? If you think playing a game in floodlights in 2025 is shocking, god help you when you read about an actual scandal. Plenty counties play big games under lights. The quality of the lights in Pearse Stadium is very good. We beat Clare in the league earlier this year under the same lights and the players managed absolutely fine. Will be 'streaming' at the games now too, based on current weather projections. 10mils in 20mph winds for the big Loughrea Turlough clash. Thunder and lightening not mentioned.

Just as well there's a fine big stand in Salthill which will keep the patrons dry. Most would be drenched if it was in Athenry. I do agree with you that the county board are to blame for the poor weather forecast on the weekend. It's one of the biggest scandals I can remember in Galway GAA. Although, they've done well over the past 2 weeks on that front, with two very dry weekends. I'm pretty sure most rounds of the championship have been played on dry weekends actually. Have we gone soft in Galway, giving about the threat of rain? We definitely need to develop more hurlers from west of the Corrib if that's the case. They're well used to the rain. It's mid October...in our climate the chances are that we'll have bad weather rather than good for our county semi finals and final. I dont know what better solution you can think of apart from moving the semi finals to Lanzarote or the Costa Del Sol? Do you think we should run off the county championship in August and September? Well then we would have to go back to the old style straight knockout competition. Our county champions wont play their All Ireland semi final til mid-November (let's campaign for Lanzarote for that one!) so if the final was being played now or earlier it would be too long a gap and would hamper their chances of reaching the All Ireland final. Of course from now on, with senior club reduced to 16 teams, there will be the possibility of playing the final around now or possibly earlier in October and entering our county champions in the Leinster club championship though I wouldnt be an advocate of that myself. But certainly they would need to take part in a provincial championship if the county championship was to be run off any earlier than it currently is. Ideal scenario would be that our senior and intermediate championship group games (which give everyone a very good chance of progressing to knock-out) should start 2 weeks after our senior county hurlers/footballers (whoever lasts longest) are knocked out of AI contention. I spoke to a few players involved on Saturday eve and not one of them wants to play under lights in PS. They prefer athenry in the day. Small cohort but was proof enough for me.

One poster has tried to compare playing a National hurling challenge match under lights at start of year to one of the biggest days in a club hurlers career under lights. Great to see so much uproar to play these games under lights.. I play and know players who love to play Friday night Saturday night over Sunday more recovery and time to relax over weekend before work Monday Just wondering why I didn't see one post complaining over the underage finals played under lights recently?? They were pretty epic games too considering according to some playing under lights is like hurling with a blindfold on. St Thomas played a much bigger game under lights in 2023, when they beat Ballygunner in an epic match. Does that count as important for you? Were you shocked and outraged back then? Who told you players don't like playing under lights? Maybe they'd like to have a few drinks afterwards and have a relaxing Sunday in front of the TV.
