Galway and its Connemara is the 33rd county of Ireland. Portumna is Tipperary and anywhere along the Roscommon, Mayo borders are considered in those counties.West and North Galway always clashing in the football. So until that scutter ends there never will be successful Galway hurling or football teams. And that leads to the bile on the football thread."
What the hell are you on about? "Portumna is Tipperary"and Galway side of the borders of Mayo and Roscommon is part of those counties. What utter BS. As supporters imo we are one of the best counties for supporting both sports and the disunity is wildly exaggerated. Cork football support is sparse enough til they reach an All Ireland football semi final or final.

Hard luck Loughrea. Very tough loss. The match should have been put away at halftime as Loughrea dominated but didn't score enough. Both semi finals decided by one point. Good luck to both teams in the Final.

Hard watch fianna only led for last minutes of game for first time. Was surprised how easy loughrea lads where going down and then fist celebrating every little thing like they where home and hosed.

Very poor by loughrea 3 or 4 simple chances missed in the first half second half silly mistakes over hitting passes a few out over the sideline including one by the keeper and to really put the icing on the cake the chance they had to cut out the pass that led to the winner they got away with this type of sloppy in the galway championship

Always did hear that Connemara should be the 33rd county. However, the same has also been said about West Cork, and unity of the county in football is questionable. In particular, Clonakilty and Nemo Rangers have had well publicized conflicts

We only have 40 odd clubs who play hurling though. Around the same in Football. Most are dual and still true to the original ethos of the GAA. Which definitely affects the standard of both club hurling and club football here.
Your club championships are excellent in standard, as is shown by your record in the AI club championships. Aside from not having as many dual clubs, you also have a far larger hurling population than we do, both adult and underage, and most of your hurling population only play hurling, as opposed to most of ours also playing Football.
Good luck to TAD, I watched an intercounty game with Ollie Robinson and his wife a few years back, a really nice couple and Ollie was a really well informed, interesting man to spend the afternoon talking to, so I'd be delighted if they won the final.

Well tough luck Loughrea. As a Bullaun man I supported the Town, but my best mate is an official at Na Fianna in Dublin.
But then what about the great Killeraran and Sarsfield's ladies.
They were all wonderful and beautiful. Just imagine if Hopper and his good lady had produced 6 boys. What a team Galway and Sarsfield's would have,
One thing I noticed, having been away from Galway for over 60 years. was their wonderful shiny teeth. Have they now got better dentists in Galway? I lost my teeth fifty years ago!

Down through the years Galway have had great hurlers and great footballers at every level and when either code gets to an All Ireland or deep into the playoffs I yell equally loud in support of them. Whether a Galway footballer or a Galway hurler they are equal in their amount of COMMITMENT and PRIDE and hey they don't get paid like professional! All this sniping back and forth should really stop as some or all of it gets back to these great young Galway people that try so hard for us. Galway Abu!!!

An interesting article by Michael Foley on Galway's "Leinster Project" in this week's The Sunday Times. Sorry I don't have a link but the gist of it was whether or not our hurlers involvement in the Leinster Championship has been a positive or negative for Galway.
Personally, I thought it was exactly what we needed, and more so, what the game of hurling needed but this article outlines why it's not quite gone how some of us had hoped (Hurling supporters as distinct from Galway hurling supporters).
Aside from competition on the field of play one major thing this article mentions is the monetary return. Seems Galway have not so well in this regard. Perhaps the Galway administrators foresaw this & that is why they were against our moving to Leinster at the time?
Given that the Revenue Commissioners are currently conducting an audit here the signs for 2025 look concerning to say the least.

You should be taking every chance you can to stick a finger in the eye of anyone who has ever slighted ye.

Especially Cork though. The only disappointing thing about the final this year for me is that ye ran out of time to beat them by more."
Why have you retired from clarehurlers? Did Clare winning the ai upset you that much..? Or cork beating limerick in semi..proving that your ascertain that limerick were unbeatable in croke park was a crock...

Not surprised at all that from a monetary point of view it has been less than successful. In that regard I expect the Leinster hurling championship is no cash cow for any Leinster counties either. Crowds at most games are moderate at best. The days of large crowds going to Leinster hurling championship matches are long gone and dont see a revival happening any time soon. From a Galway pov, undoubtedly it has involved an increase in costs ,transport costs being one of the biggest. Pre our Leinster championship involvement transport costs amounted to little more than a few away challenge matches leading up to our couple of championship matches. After that it was just about covering the cost of travelling to training at a Galway venue. Now there are 2 or 3 away championship matches every year and some probably involve overnights. More so with the minor and U20 teams who have no home matches at all.

But I wouldnt think Galway GAA are doing too bad all the same at this moment in time. They are making a packet from livestreaming club championship matches and they surely banked a nice sum from that "Win an apartment in Salthill" competition they ran last year. That's before the donation last year by JP McManus to every county board is counted in. But I would say the County Treasurer's recent comment about the unsustainability in the long term of funding county teams at their current level is also very pertinent and a warning that needs to be heeded.

Worth bearing in mind that a chunk of the money that comes back to CBs from Croke Park is from revenue generated by the increased number of intercounty games from Minor up to Senior, which are the main reason for increased team expenses, from medical expenses such as scans to get players back out on the pitch quicker as the increased number of games come thick and fast, to transport costs incurred by teams and backrooms travelling more.
I'd be guessing no allowance was being made by your Treasurer for this, as in our accounts at our recent AGM this money was listed in a completely different section of the accounts to Team Expenses.

Amen to that. I'm looking forward to 2025 in BOTH codes! The Footballers were so close and will really like to push on and win it all. The Hurlers will be interesting as to see who will win starting positions. Galway Abu.

Best of luck to Galway in both codes for 2025, particularly the footballers. And ate the turkey well!
