Very hard to see Thomas's getting bet. They look even better. Peggy11 (Galway) - Posts: 84 - 26/10/2021 09:47:26 2387370 Link 1 |
It is very disappointing that so many big clubs have failed to move on this year. St. Thomas are still out in front while others who looked that they might make some breakthrough have performed poorly. Hard to see where Henry will find the material needed for rebuilding based on the Club Championship to-date. The margins in 2 of the games the weekend just gone are shocking for quarter finals with so many so called senior teams in the county. No evidence that club managers are up to much either. No wonder we needed an outsider for the last 3 years. SixtiesKid (Galway) - Posts: 304 - 26/10/2021 10:59:47 2387391 Link 1 |
What game on RTE did he hit 5 balls over the bar from sidelines? Was it an old Portumna game? Must've missed that one...

Was a very close game. Once Gort went ahead cappy could not get that score to take the lead. Gort were very disciplined in defence. Think Greg Lally was the sweeper there. But got by passed a few times. Young Collins has serious potential and a nice hurler too. Gort will put it up to Thomas's in the semis but I Thomas's will come out on top. Its just the form they are in. But sure you can never know until the game. They did not have an off day yet. Cappy were the closest this year yet. But again semi final stage and gort will give them a good game. Clarinbridge v craughwell will be a good game. Will be a close one I think. Craughwell won their quarter final in 2nd gear. But Clarinbridge will be at a different level. I'd expect it to be a close one. Craughwell to win by a point or 2. plentyofstick (Galway) - Posts: 88 - 26/10/2021 11:53:28 2387406 Link 1 |
Yeah I have agree with you about St Thomas's. I can't believe Gort got this far but I'd say barring a miracle they'll get bounced out. The other semi final could go either way but I'll take Clarenbridge I suppose.

That Clarenbridge v Craughwell match could go either way. I'd like a Thomas's v Clarenbridge final too though.

Margins weren't 'shocking' at all, imo. They were nearly inevitable surely, with a competition structure that qualified SIX B sides alongside the 6 A sides for the 'big 12'.

Who would have thought that the best players in the county are, in the main, already on the county panel? That could hardly be shock news for you? Stool Pigeon (Galway) - Posts: 822 - 26/10/2021 13:44:39 2387442 Link 1 |
What are you on about now ffs, can you not move on and stop embarrassing yourself?

There you go again.Look at your reply to sixtieskid. And if you think our best players are on the county panel already we are in serious trouble. We are getting hammered by Dublin in the championship, and you think we are playing our best players. You are like a car going round the roundabout with his indicator stuck.

I think you're mostly right. Conor Whalen of Kinvara is great example. Kinvara are nowhere close to threatening for a County title yet produced someone like him. Same thing with Kilbeacanty in the past with Steve Mahon and later Niall Donahue (RIP). Shefflin will have plenty of talent to choose from.

I must correct you on a few details: First of all báire is another Irish term for hurling, ag bualadh báire, playing hurling. Cúl báire is the goal keeper. This is what you wrote initially: "I'm sure that Joe is delighted with Henry's appointment. Sure, it opens up a cushy punditry spot on RTE for him. And RTE adore Joe. Even with brother Ollie involved, they'll still bring Joe on board. That's how Joe will be contributing to the 2022 championship". There is begrudgery in that comment and it's directed mostly at Joe and Ollie Canning. I'm not aware of a tv recording of Joe hitting 5 sideline cuts over the bar. I agree with you that some commentators, esp Marty Morrissey go over the top but he's not a hurler, his knowledge of hurling is limited. His main interest is viewership. Michael Duignan on RTÉ is very good. B Cummins and Anthony Daly can be good. Dónal Óg does more preaching than analysis. Ollie, JJ and Jamesie on Sky are excellent. baire (Galway) - Posts: 1767 - 27/10/2021 12:52:53 2387581 Link 1 |
Re the JC sideline cuts I think he may be referring to the 2020 AI semifinal where he got 4 from 4 so he possibly thought it was 5.

I think JC got 4 and Fintan Burke got a fifth one. Burke definitely got one anyway. It was outrageous to see to be fair. People who begrudge that skill haven't a notion what they're talking about.

There's very few that can do it well on a consistent basis.

Tadhg Haran, Fintan Burke, Tony Kelly. Thats 3 names off the top of my head. Jamie Ryan from Loughrea another. It's a good skill but a rather routine one now that all the leading counties have at least 1 player who excels at it.

Limerick don't do it..the percentage play is to get the sideline into a freeman . A guy setting up for a pop at goals from a sideline tears the bum out of momentum and if he misses then it's absolutely dire. Remember the Waterford sideline into Peter Casey that resulted in a Limerick goal bloodyban (Limerick) - Posts: 1710 - 29/10/2021 10:13:47 2387789 Link 0 |
It's far from routine. Very few points are scored from sidelines still. If it was routine, you'd see far more. Most counties don't take on the shot, as it's still low percentage play for them. Joe's record is miles ahead of the next players in the list. Tell me who the player who excels at scoring from sidelines is, for all of the other leading counties?
