Austin Stacks v Naomh Fionnbarra will be played in Thurles, are TG4 going to show the game I wonder, a 6 hour round trip to Thurles is a bit much, pity they didn't play it in limerick as it would knock a few hours off the journey. Kingdomboy I was wondering why is the game fixed for thurles??they are passing limerick which is very strange..it would have made more since if they tossed for home or away.. CTGAA10 (Limerick) - Posts: 2495 - 07/01/2022 12:16:53 2393921 Link 0 |
It would have made more sence to have it in limerick CT I think the Stacks wanted to toss a coin but the Barrs wanted a neutral venue.

Thankfully TG4 are showing it. Don't understand why it's not in Limerick...a toss would have been a better idea even..not sure what Barrs problem is? Apparently an argument put forward is ASP is more of a home venue to Stacks than PUiChaoimh is to Barrs. While probably true, its not very valid. Home advantage should not make much difference. They are either good enough or they're not. bennybunny (Cork) - Posts: 3917 - 07/01/2022 14:38:37 2393963 Link 0 |
That's great news that TG4 are showing it Benny. Thurles is some spin, if it was in Mallow or limerick it would have been ideal.

Its true. Not too bad for me living between Cork and Mallow but in generalI don't favourthat venuefor this game. The attendance cap at 5000 could have been an issue. Both clubs have big support and with it being a final and all...Thurles will probably put Kerry people off alright..I will watch on TV now also..as I said Barrs have made a mistake here by not agreeing to toss..Cork/Kerry games are always home/away and that should be the way. Venue can't be used as an excuse...sometimes teams can be too clever in trying to get themselves an advantage

If I remember correctly he was marking an outstanding player who graduated to the Kildare seniors the following year and joined his brother.

Ya Benny a bit like Mayo complaining about playing in Limerick in 2014 semifinal it can give an edge to the other team, it can show a weakness but if Barrs win it'll look like a stroke of genius. Like you say both teams have big following so the big venue will suit that. There are rumours going around the restrictions might be eased soon, hopefully for the start of the league. Kerry hurlers beat Tipp today 17-14 in the Munster hurling Cup, next up we play the allireland champs on Friday KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 08/01/2022 21:22:00 2394146 Link 1 |
I don't think the forward he was marking ever made it with Kildare but I don't think he was destroyed as people remember either. Looking back at match reports, Brian McLoughlin who he was marking only scored 2 points. I think they stick in the head more because both times Okunbor jumped in for a big block down but McLoughlin dummied him and made him look a bit silly. Okunbor had been getting outstanding blocks in every game but McLoughlin was cute enough to know he'd jump in very quick. Okunbor also messed up a free at the back which lead to a goal so it wasn't a good day for him but I certainly wouldn't be writing him off at full back based on it. Now, I'm not saying full back will be his position either and we've other strong options in Jason Foley and possibly Dylan Casey, but I think he's worth a look there too.

Congrats to the Kerry hurlers, brilliant result! TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4501 - 09/01/2022 10:50:56 2394159 Link 4 |
Okunbar gave away the ball from a free allright but what really killed us against Kildare that day was the guy that we had on kicking duty for us missed three 14 meter frees, had we O'Shea and Clifford available to us we'd probably have scrope over the line but unfortunately they had to be fast tracked to the seniors. I think Clifford scored something like 2:6 against the Kildare senior team 3 weeks later in the super 8s. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 09/01/2022 12:00:12 2394171 Link 1 |
That was a killer alright missing those very easy frees. Also Jimmy Hyland Kildare's main main scored 6 points from play. The corner back marking him wasn't exactly our best back. Jack should have moved Graham O'Sullivan back on him, he would have done a better job. It was clear our man wasn't able for Hyland but no change was made. Seanie was overage that year but we were missing Diarmuid O'Connor as well as Clifford, but even without them we had enough to win the All Ireland that year. That was one u20 All Ireland we really threw away.

If I remember correctly he was switched on to Jimmy Hyland. The manager made no changes to attempt to curb Kildare forwards who were on their game that day. I also feel he is full-back material. I'm old so may be mistaken.

You're right O'Shea was over but like you say we were missing O'Connor and Clifford. Jack made some big mistakes. at U21 /U20 let hope he's learned his lessons. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 09/01/2022 15:28:55 2394211 Link 1 |
Thanks User. I know it's probably Tipps 3rd team but it's a great confidence boost for Kerry hurling and great to see.

Correction: should read NOT full-back material. Better suited for the half-backs or midfield.

Kilmoyley (Kerry) beat Coursey (Cork) in today's Munster Intermediate club hurling final in Limerick 0::24-0::21 I think they now play the Ulster champions from Derry in the semi final in 2 weeks time. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 09/01/2022 18:18:29 2394257 Link 1 |
No I'm sure he wasn't on Hyland at all. I don't see it with him at midfield. Wing back the most obvious and safest position for him.

We'd have some size of a half back line with Okunbar and White on the wings and Mike Breen at centreback, it would give our goalie loads of options for kickouts, they're all wicked fast as well.
