Oisin Foley's performance is enhanced more by the fact he was marking Cillian Buckley rather than a novice, as mentioned Mac looked like a man reborn, O'Hanlon was good against Tipp and even better today, looks up for the challenge of his spot being under pressure, Devitt has been a revelation in a new position in the 3 games so far, great to be visiting Croke Park even in January.

Interesting that as well as Billy Walsh, Gordon D'Arcy is involved in the team. Wonder will the oilgate players be thrown in next week.

Always a good sign when the players coming in perform. Even if the opposition is experimenting also. These are building blocks and are a mirror to commitment with the appetite to succeed.

Replying To Blockandhook:  "Entertaining stuff here today. Both sides sporting a lot of untried players at intercounty level. Thought we were the better team for most of the game. I was very impressed with Devitt, and perhaps he might solve the troublesome corner back position. Flood was solid in the half back line and paudie was once again outstanding in the centre. With O'Hanlon comfortable at 7, that could well be the half back line into the championship. However its early days so lets wait and see. Mac was often in the thick of things and took his scores well. Oisin Foley was undoubtedly the man of the match. He certainly looked the real deal today and slotted over 3 points. Another game next week and it looks like it'll be against the Dubs. I'm sure Darragh will give the newcomers another chance to settle in and give us plenty of options for the league and championship."
Correction. Sorry Oisin i credited you with 3 points when in fact you scored 5 points. Sorry about that.

Looks like Tara Rocks missed a opportunity for Croke Park, after beating them after extra time Mooncoin won the Leinster final by 10 and beat salthill today by 21.

How did Kevin Foley get on yesterday centre-forward?

And was there any tendency to drop a sweeper back when Kilkenny were storming back into the game? Or was it all attacking hurling?

Was hard to see any definite shape to either team in the latter stages of the match but both sides pretty much used all their subs by that stage. You could see that some of the Shels players looked a little less sharp in their hurling after their run in the Leinster Football championship. But it's only January pre season hurling at the end of the day despite the game being played with great intensity for a Walsh Cup game and the large crowd generating a good atmosphere!

Be interesting to see what Billy Walsh and Gordon D'Arcy will offer. Very early days yet but I'm excited by what Egan has brought so far . Plenty of young talent been given a chance .

Wherever Billy Walsh goes success has followed - he can only be a positive influence.

A bit like a certain Liam Griffin years ago Egan is definitely thinking outside the box. D'Arcy and Walsh are definitely people that have enjoyed sporting success at the top level and after reading the Independent article on Gordon D'Arcy joining the set up he offers Egan little insights on psychology and player mindset on match days. Obviously for the players themselves, especially the younger members of the panel, being able to draw on the 2 lads experience of preparing for big days could only be helpful.

11 points down after hitting ten wides by half-time. I really hope we are getting terrible shooting and loose defending out of the way tonight, otherwise Limerick will have a field day.

Don't know why they took Paudie out of centre-back. Jacko might have taken a knock that necessitated his substitution, but he didn't look confident there at all before that.

Mikey Dwyer was the only bright note this evening. Pepper showed well off the bench too. As I noted in the other thread, it is commendable that the new management are blooding all the young lads and attempting to impart their own style on the side, but defeats such as this show how much more protection the sweeper system afforded us.

We almost threw away a healthy lead vs Kilkenny last week and got torn apart through the middle tonight. I hope that there was some shadow-boxing on show- if not, I fear a hammering next week vs. Limerick. Kevin Foley hobbling off doesn't help either as he would be the automatic choice to drop back if we decide to do that.

What sort of drills do we be doing down in the COE if we continue to hit double-figures in the wide column game-on-game?
